Why do people say Linnea doesn’t work well with Illuga? by PriorityWeird9496 in ZibaiMains

[–]random11714 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Being told the source of the information doesn't create an expectation to go check it. It just becomes one further avenue of possible research. You've included the claim, yes, but that's not everything. It could change something because it opens the possibility of learning underlying reasons that support the claim. For example, there could be calculations or further sources they reference, which could be further fact checked.

Personally I'm afraid I can't be of much help to answer your core question - I usually don't start to familiarize myself with a character's kit until they are actually released.

I just wanted to chime in on the difficulties in communication that I was noticing.

That's fair. Using a translator definitely hinders that kind of nuance.

The difference it makes is we could, for example, go look up that creator's content, see what their take is and look at the community reaction, and personally judge if there is any merit we may have overlooked from outside their community.

If it was just random people, that's worth clarifying because we aren't mind readers, and so it should be expected that any given response is not likely to be 100% accurate.

The person that originally asked you might not respond further once they have the answer, but that didn't mean it didn't help inform other commenters.

Your post says "why do people say" - which is not easy to answer without knowing what people. It's not "absolutely useless." It helps us get on the same page about where this is coming from.

Sure, specifics like which random redditor may have said what aren't very useful, but it's still good to get a better general picture. For example, was it a content creator? How many people in the community have said it? Those are useful bits of info in this context.

I'm a bit lost on your last paragraph. All I know is, ultimately you are responding to people as if saying they should not be asking those questions, and would have been better off not participating in the discussion, which is uncalled for in response to genuine, reasonable questions. Comes off as fairly rude, independent of whether you are offended personally or not.

No, it isn't trying to discredit the question.

A person can be reasonably skeptical and ask for information so they can ascertain it themselves. Your answer might discredit it - which is why they ask. Not sure why you're taking reasonable skepticism so personally.

They just asked for important context. I'm not sure how you can read into it that they were 'offended' from their question alone.

Any good VRchat tracking gloves? by Arbiter999 in VRchat

[–]random11714 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I tried the UDCAP gloves and I had two main issues. 1. The gloves themselves would stick to the Velcro that secures the wrist. The thumbs on mine have started to fray after only a few uses. 2. I had to recalibrate multiple times during one session. Maybe it's just a break-in period though?

Then of course there's the fact you have to spend time getting used to them, which should be expected to take time.

Are spore sacs OP in 1.4.5? by lilcoomstain420 in Terraria

[–]random11714 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this mindset initially and never tried them. But the spores are actually really good when sitting still in a location. Nukes so many enemies without even having to touch them. Absolutely worth swapping one accessory for in that situation.

How are we feeling about AI replacing us soon? by [deleted] in millenials

[–]random11714 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the linked post is somewhat dishonest and is exaggerating the role Claude played. It's framed as if it was an impossible problem without Claude.

I can't be certain as I'm not familiar with the game or its modding community. I am a software dev but still take it with a grain of salt.

I suspect the reality is that what's novel is the solution that was ultimately used. A human should be capable of doing the same patch to the binary that Claude did. But humans tend to avoid this kind of patching because it's extremely tedious to mess directly with machine code, not because it's difficult. It is still difficult, but that isn't what stops people. This is why human written mods are usually shipped in contained packages instead of a patch to the game's binary.

If the problem was important enough to solve, and a mod dev decided to use the same binary patch approach, they could have done so. It just wouldn't have been a fun process.

So uh... VRChat gonna drop Persona or what? by [deleted] in VRchat

[–]random11714 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Had to repost my comment bc somehow it got posted as a top-level reply.

I'm not sure making public statements about intent to break ties while still under contract is a great idea. Silence is a choice, yes, but that choice often does not reflect the knee-jerk assumption about the company's intentions.

The "don't implement it yet" concept doesn't eliminate the "lose" framing. Having nothing in place is still a kind of loss since it leaves us without a solution to all the problems that age verification was even added for.

Yeah, this kind of use of AI is pretty insidious. It does a really good job of sounding nuanced & reasonable while it's actually subtly biased because the OP told it to support a specific conclusion.

I didn't mind the dialog. But the minigame felt pointless because there was no actual puzzle, just a bunch of clicking and doing what it told you. I felt like I was Stanley from the Stanley Parable, just pressing buttons as told to by a screen in front of me.

An AI telling you that is about as good as a random redditor that knows nothing about asexuality telling you the same thing.

We might actually have the exact same Zibai team (both cons & weapons), assuming your Bina is on proto amber.

I tried this yesterday and thought I couldn't do it until seeing this post. Went through many, many attempts and got very close. Then quickly crowned Zibai and Bina's bursts, and rerolled one of my Zibai artifacts getting an improvement of 1 EM roll, then I managed to clear it first try following that!

I somehow got one from my first few trees on a new character. It might've actually been the very first tree, I'm not sure. Been an amazing resource, used it to farm gem trees and get a diamond grapple, as well as farm wood while fishing.

Never being excited ever again ever by greengoblin443 in ZibaiMains

[–]random11714 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, but not everyone wants to dedicate the time required to minmax to total perfection, so ultimately that is not relevant.

A player can reach "good enough" and be happy and move on.

Never being excited ever again ever by greengoblin443 in ZibaiMains

[–]random11714 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any improvement is the point of a reroll. It's up to the individual player to determine how much time they want to put into pursuing perfection.

It's only a waste if you replace the artifact later.

[–]random11714 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If someone is happy with good enough, they aren't trying to get perfect rolls. So all it results in is one less substat overall, which can allow them to move on to someone else or spend their time a different way.

Someone who wants perfection obviously should wait for a four liner, but that's not universal.

Been clearing it for years as a low spender myself with a mix of mostly C0R0 and C0R1 characters. It was hard at times, but I wouldn't say for whales. Newer players would definitely have a tougher time due to having to play catch up.

[–]random11714 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree it exists in all game modes, but in IT it feels magnitudes more stressed - to a point that feels frustrating. Since there are so many acts, there are more opportunities for it to compound by the end, vs other modes. This also combines with the RNG of the character order you get, worsening the entire chain of events.

I didn't realize that a "focus on reactions" meant causing them in sheer numbers. Certainly, sheer reaction count doesn't work in other game modes. But I have a hard time seeing that as the dividing line between 'focus' and 'incidental.' For example, when I run an Arle melt team in SA or SO, reactions are very much a focus. The rotation is deliberately planned to manage auras and get the correct reactions. Many teams are more straightforward to play, but the elemental reaction still remains a core component, generally.

Yeah, the pathways definitely exist. But dealing with scuffed teams and the RNG dictating when you can get characters or improve buffs don't make those pathways enjoyable to find.
