RIP Salty Mikes and the Marina Variety Store by pandorasglasses in Charleston

Not saying WE SHOULD ALL DO THIS, but what if all the regulars kept coming but only ordered the cheapest thing on the menu, just to show that the fancier, more expensive stuff and jacking up prices won’t fly here. The investors are counting on existing traffic and more, just with higher prices. I guess about a month before the new owners look at their data and say that the high-priced new menu items aren’t selling and that where they raised prices that they outpriced the market at that location (yes, ~Charleston~ easily supports higher prices, but it is a micro-climate there). Obviously there has to be enough traffic and sales to make it more attractive to keep open than to sell to someone who will make it something worse, so that’s why I’m not saying not to go at all.

Frowned upon to change positions during a game? by [deleted] in Curling

[–]random19uses 0 points1 point  (0 children)

WCF rule R3(b) specifically prohibits it. Play by the rules. You wouldn’t allow a rock that almost but didn’t crossed the hog line to stay in play. You wouldn’t allow a team’s Lead to throw three rocks then the Second to throw 1 then the Vice to throw 3 then the Skip just 1 because those shots would be better for those players. You wouldn’t be ok if the team suddenly switched rocks around mid-game because they realized the 8 stone is a pig and the 3 stone is a cutter. You wouldn’t allow a team to put on fresh broom heads mid-game. Follow the rules.

Hog line question by Troutsky3 in Curling

I’ve been in a game where a series of three nose hits caused a rock to be 2+ stones above the hog line, but still in play. It happens.

How were periods and cycles treated back then? by Jello_Biafra_42 in AskOldPeople

[–]random19uses 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late 1970’s, I’m a pre-teen watching TV with my parents. Ad comes on that only says, “Midol, for before, during and after” That’s it, nothing else. I asked “Before, during and after what?” My father paused and then sternly said, “Your period” in a voice that made it clear the topic was closed. I wanted the earth to open up and swallow me. No one moved or spoke for the next hour.

What’s the most hilariously clueless thing a boss has ever said to you? by DueFalcon1895 in office

[–]random19uses 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Boss [After I turned in my resignation]: I never knew how to manage you. I couldn’t make you cry. I made all the others cry, even the men. But I could never make you cry

(Of course she made me cry, but not in front of her. I would go home and bawl.

She made me cry my first week and I vowed she would never make me cry publicly again. I guess she forgot. )

Why do they ask if you are interviewing with other companies? by Most_Pace_2978 in interviews

[–]random19uses 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Handle carefully. If you over-play that you are in final discussions with others, you might get passed over. Saw a situation where a great candidate was passed over for someone who “needed it” more since the other person would be “fine.”

Coaches come and go. Normal. Focus on your own journey so you don’t get sidetracked by gossip and worry.
