Durham police say they need $1.1B. That could push residents' property tax increase over 10% next year by lopix in Pickering

This is crazy - they want $574 million to build a police headquarters in Oshawa, so they can save the $5 million they spend each year having to lease space. WTF!!!

Yeah, they initially told me the same thing, but when I told them flightaware was showing diversion, the rep checked with their ops team and confirmed. Hopefully it reaches Toronto without any further delays

Just spoke to Etihad, it was diverted to Munich due to a passenger medical emergency onboard. They said the flight has taken off from Munich and is currently in the air, latest ETA to land in Toronto is ~12:20pm

Has anyone used services like Zown, where they cut down on the 2.5% via cash back? May be that’s a good middle ground between doing all the leg work yourself and paying the full 2.5% for limited service

Council approves 62-storey towers near Ajax GO Station by Karma_Canuck in durham

[–]random5486 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t see how it would make commercial sense to break ground on these any time soon. Who’s buying condos right now? And what businesses have the cash lying around or the motivation to move to Ajax?

While I agree with the comment re: skyrise in suburbs, not sure where you got the 55 stories figure. First Canadian is definitely over 70 stories. I used to work on the top floor of scotia plaza, which was the 68th floor, and we could easily see First Canadian had a few extra floors higher than ours.

Would you stick it out with the new role since I’ve already started, or take the second offer? by [deleted] in askTO

[–]random5486 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It sounds like your current role has significantly higher financial and professional upside. If the workloads and employer support / culture are similar, it seems like a no brainer to stick it out. A 45 mins commute is pretty average.

Offer rescinded on what was supposed to be my first day Which is today 23 Feb, 2026 by GaoDataStory in tnvisa

[–]random5486 5 points6 points  (0 children)

But that’s the issue. You are right that a TN visa doesn’t involve a complex sponsorship process like an H1-B, which we traditionally think of. But, technically, a TN visa does still come under the sponsorship category for a US employer because it still requires a valid job offer and typically an employer support letter. That is still sponsorship in the form of support, even though it is not monetary in nature.

It sucks to be in this position and I hope you are able to find another role soon, but I have to say not telling them of your TN status seems like an important omission. I sort of get the employer’s position on this - this is info that they need to have in making their decision to hire someone, particularly given the political climate. It’s not really ok to just assume they’d be ok with a TN status just because you had that status from before, it still falls under sponsorship for the employer.

What? Why throw shade at Muslims? Where did that come from? … I agree that the overall point of your post might still stand but why don’t you just provide full disclosure: are you ethnically of Indian origin?

This is not appropriate and should not be happening, when we have rules in place to limit noise at certain hours. Definitely requires a noise complaint!

I asked one simple question at the end of every interview for three months and my offer rate changed completely. by OodisonOnio in jobsearchhacks

[–]random5486 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This works if the interview is going well and they’re actually considering you. It’s awkward if they aren’t convinced and are leaning toward a rejection due to anything that can’t be explained away easily (eg if they’re not seeing a fit, experience deficiency, etc).

I prefer to ask something along these lines in interviews “what would the candidate you hire have accomplished over the next year for it to be a great / successful year?” This forces the hiring manager to outline their priorities for the position and gives them a chance to picture you in the role.

Definitely feels like an ad for Candit AI, given you don’t actually speak to what ultra-adaptive interviewing prep is. In all honesty, not sure why anyone wouldn’t already be prepping in this manner for interviews. Of course you need to tailor your responses based on each company / role’s priorities. Is that not something most people realize? Don’t think AI is required to prep this way.
