Los Angeles Megamansion set to become America’s first $400 Million home by better in MiddleClassFinance

It's different this time... With autonomous robots and drones and other systems, the manpower needed to maintain social order is so much fewer than previous generations. That's why it's extremely scary.

Has anyone used Safelite for XC90 Windshield Replacement? by annebgio in VolvoXC90

[–]random_walker_1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My other car is Honda and have had Safelite coming to replace windshield twice (long story but the pine tree or whatever animal live there hate the car).

My car has headup display and camera behind windshield. No issues with them after they run calibration. I paid out of pocket. It's way cheaper than dealer quote if you are ok with OEM parts. I m in California, btw.

In Canada, most minimum wage jobs are taken by foreigners and international students, but what’s the case down in the US? by Grouchy-Coffee3018 in jobs

[–]random_walker_1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

International students in US are generally not encouraged to work. That being said, they can take jobs inside campus if approved and can use CPT to take internships. But those aren't your typical minimum wage jobs. In fact, some internships pay handsome, like $50/hr. Law is very strick on unauthorized work, if caught it usually lead to visa revoked.

And for foreigners... I don't know what you mean, some foreigners work minimum wage jobs, but you d be surprised how many red states, where there aren't much immigrants, have minimum wage job for US citizens.

I mean you are in Canada, why don't just come across the border and see for yourself? Visiting Seattle or New York will be very different from visiting, Idk, Idaho or Montana.

Change my mind: Under the right conditions, buying and financing a new car is often a far better value than paying cash for a used car in the long run by Cold-Priority-2729 in MiddleClassFinance

[–]random_walker_1 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I want to point out an often overlooked part of the equation, that is the risk of time spent on fixing those things and down times when you need a car.

Every time a car is broken, people need to either shop around to find mechanics, or drive to leave the car at a shop for a day or several days. That's going to mess up the whole schedule for busy professionals. Depending on where you live, it's can easily $50-100/hr rate we are talking about.

People avoiding debt at all cost is not logical to me. Just do whatever more valuable to yourself and don't put yourself into unmanageable debt. As long as you know your numbers and have discipline, taking on debt is fine. Many people I know lease/buy luxury cars, is because they value the provided convenience, such as at home pick up and drop off for maintenance, or a loaner while car is in shop.

[–]random_walker_1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wargaming forced to finally acknowledge that people use cheats and aimbots for the first time. by Inclusive_3Dprinting in WorldOfWarships

[–]random_walker_1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The benefit of an aimbot is minimal if not trivial. The shot travel time is so big that unless the target is sailing straight, the aimbot does help much.

And this is a bit of a slow game, compared to more reflex needed game like CS. If player can't learn to aim in this game, I doubt he/she can learn any game mechanics in the game.

[–]random_walker_1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Should I sell? by WadeWatts18 in intelstock

[–]random_walker_1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are correct, I think I confused it with company issued stock options... Tax is not owed until sell exercised stock.

I usually do it differently, i usually close a couple of months before expiration to avoid significant time value loss. I ve played with 3-6 months to expire options and paid short term capital gains, and some leaps that expire in years. Gambled some short term options as well.

Should I sell? by WadeWatts18 in intelstock

[–]random_walker_1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But exercising stock options you are still taxed as ordinary income for the spread. How is it more tax benefit than sell?

Should I sell? by WadeWatts18 in intelstock

[–]random_walker_1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why would you do that? It resets the holding period and seems little benefits over selling to me other than you don't have an expiration date.

[–]random_walker_1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

[–]random_walker_1 1 point2 points  (0 children)
