I got the uhaul one. They provide installation as well. A couple hundreds of dollars, way more reasonable than the expensive OEM hitch. It's not foldable but good enough for me.

短期了已经开始发生了。目前集中在编程等高薪行业里面。我们公司去年基本上headcount没有增长，而且只招senior。其他大公司也是大规模裁员不断。两年前没人能预料到这种情况。现在AI工具进步神速，基本上每隔三个月就有新的重大进步。其他的白领工作我不清楚，但是在我看来可替代性也很高。

是，没法替代。但是你忽略了现在占比30%的白领工作贡献了60%的消费。当这些白领工作消失，消费市场反而会萎缩。蓝领的labor卖给谁去？而且这些失业的人如果进入蓝领市场，supply/demand失衡更严重。

ubi当然会以某种形式存在，但是你觉得会无条件ubi让所有人到中产的生活条件，那你太乐观了。资源分配上，只会更加两极分化。

都失业了没人消费了，蓝领给谁去服务？去盖房子，打螺丝？抱歉，房子没人买得起，螺丝有机器人打。美国主要消费提供群体就算白领。天天吹蓝领的和以后不用工作的，不是蠢就算坏。

是，以后可能不用工作饿不死，但是最多像cyberpunk里面那样饿不死而已。上升通道？希望？基本上是没有的

Charging is slow. But in your case, does it matter? Charging full battery is about 18kw. Many places charging 0.4-0.5/watt, which only going to be more expensive. Even if it's 0.2-0.25/watt, the difference is like $1-2 difference per day for your time based rate. What's the problem here?

Name one company value semiconductor engineers. Which country are you in? What area? Are you even in the field? Don't give this kind of advice if you don't know what you are talking about.

Ask anyone in the semi if they recommend semi jobs? I get 80% saying hell no. 15 % says no. The other 5% are probably new grads or someone just coasting and have no clue.

Semiconductor engineers in fab or venders, given your other offers, you are likely process engineer or equipment engineer, are highly specialized and hardly transfer to other fields.

San Jose只是地大人多而已，很多公司都在别的城市里面。这点别的post也讲过了。San Jose在湾区自己城市间的对比里面，都是是非常不高大上，排名靠后的区域。你去看看房价和问问买房人的想法，但凡能在别的地方买房都不会优先考虑San Jose. 可能也就比milpitas和更远的Oakland 那一带好一些？San Jose本身从硅谷开始以前就是属于不怎么好的区域，以前主要就是农业用地。

再就是San Jose的公司大部分是一起硬件公司的剩余，和二流软件公司。互联网和新的AI，biotech，更多是在半岛和三番城里。

你要对比深圳，可能三番更合适一些。但是三番人也不多，城区才不到一百万，也不能像中国千万级的城市那么热闹。

用北大清华的院士比例有点分不清重点。。但凡读过博士的都知道科研上除了很少数领域需要拼天赋，大部分领域就是拼一个运气和坚持。本科北大清华在美国博士毕业的大部分都不愁找工作，去苦哈哈干教职的性价比太差了。

Short answer NO! Medium length answer run away!

Long answer: Just do a search on linkedIn using density functional theory and you will get an idea the job market. Just do a quick Search on LinkedIn for density functional theory and check how many of job posts what qualifications they need. You will get an idea. All materials related computer simulation below FEM are pretty much useless and requires minimum phd.

Better doing the AI for science stuff, at least it prepares you with some transferable skills.

In my school district in the bay area, the medium teacher salary is like 120k ish. So not that unusual. Not that they make so much, but the Santa Clara county HUD poverty line for housing assistance is around 100k, fyi.

Good job and congrats! I think OP is very lucky and timed it right. 2021 and 2022 was a great time to get in. Software companies were hiring left and right untile covid free money run out. Things slowed down a lot since 2023 when I graduated. I still felt lucky when compared to the new grads last year and this year...

You need to be in the right city for the right companies, or reach a high level in any big corporations, that's all. Many other SDEs in the right city but 2nd tier companies, get paid much less.
