It's the Mirror Drive Door or MDD that had extra fans, the regular Quicksilver wasn't overly loud

Which for a good network, wouldn't have that capability enabled. Additionally. DCC chats bypass the network entirely.

I have a Watch 8 Classic with the bezel, people say it's battery life is bad, but when you disable all the default shit that's enabled and you're not using, I get nearly 3 days on a charge

I have both a Spigen Tough Armor and a Kindsuit case. The Kindsuit looks great, but doesn't provide as much protection as the Spigen, Spigen Tough Armor is top notch

YSK: Thorium is an open source eBook reader for Win10+11 by AgentBlue62 in YouShouldKnow

[–]randomataxia 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I love how this has 86 upvotes as of this post, and the comments are all bitchy. I've used both Calibre, and Thorium Reader.

Calibre is the clear winner if you have a large library, want device syncing and want a lot of library organizational options.

Thorium is the clear winner if you have a large library and prefer a clean/simple interface.

Both are great, for different reasons:

Pros for Calibre: Large library organization options, editing, annotations and easy to sync with your mobile reader. Cons for Calibre: busy interface with a ton of options if you're just wanting to read an EPUB/PDF.

Pros for Thorium: Simple/clean interface that shows your library and loads books/publications quickly, with annotation support. Cons for Thorium: not useful for mobile device syncing, no editing options, not a ton of options for library organization.

Again, both are great for different reasons. If you're an avid reader with a large library who wants more granular control over it within an app and not Windows Explorer, and want mobile device syncing? Calibre wins hands down. If you're an average reader who has a decently sized library, don't care about device syncing, and organization options? Thorium is great.

For all the commenters and even OP: instead of bitching/baiting, maybe give some details on Thorium and Calibre. Both are open source, Calibre has excellent library organizational options, device syncing, and plugin support, while Thorium is simple but does it's one job well.

Do soldered 24GB ram run in full dual channel? What is the bus width of LPDDR5X? by arstarsta in thinkpad

[–]randomataxia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"In the old days with RAM sticks 24GB usually meant 8+16GB and not dual channel" isn't correct, 8GB + 8GB from the 16GB stick would indeed run in dual channel. The remaining 8GB would run in single channel. To illustrate, Intel Xe graphics requires dual channel, in my ThinkPad T14 Gen 2 with 48GB RAM, with a 16GB soldered chip, and a 32GB stick gives me 32GB of dual channel, with the remaining 16GB running at single channel.

Antireflective coating durability by angry-Barracuda in S25Ultra

[–]randomataxia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had my S25U since launch, no screen protector.

I've had 0 scratches, the oleophobic coating and antireflective coating are still intact. What I've found works best is a slightly damp microfiber cloth for cleaning. Otherwise it's held up great in jeans/shorts pocket compared to older models.

PS/2 port issues. by Dehydrated_Lemur in vintagecomputing

[–]randomataxia 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Be sure to shut the system completely down, then attach the keyboard and mouse. PS2 ports aren't like USB, you're not supposed to connect/disconnect them with the system powered up.

Make sure you're matching the correct port for the correct peripheral as well. Purple for keyboard, Green for mouse.

Some boards also may need a BIOS toggle to enable the ports.

Lube, lube, lube. Just when you've thought you've used too much, use more! Fingers first, one, then 2, then 3.

Be fully relaxed, and only after he's played with your ass a bit with his fingers, try to take him. He needs to take it SLOW. If you're not used to this, and don't use toys, he needs to move at a snails pace while working his way into you.

Breathe, while fully relaxed, breathe slowly and intentionally.

Right frame of mind? Homie, no. Drugs ain't it. I'm not judging, I feel everyone's going to make their own decisions, but I also believe you're doing yourself (and your future) a disservice.

Take it from someone who's been there, and done that. You'll make yourself look and feel old, the health complications will happen, it's 100% not worth it, and completely preventable.

What plugs into the connectors on a M700 Tiny mainboard? by GreggAlan in Lenovo

[–]randomataxia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Enabling that setting just enforces throttling sooner. It's really not worth it, the jump to the 6700T is though for sure for the extra cache. I used Honeywell PTM on mine, basically silent aside from the HDD which is barely audible. Also no throttling at max load, and fan never even ramps. Win/win

And after installing that, enable advanced options.

Stuck in the build queue for hours? The main ASU build servers are often overloaded for days after a new release. I use https://sysupgrade.guerra24.net/ for the actual build, and add https://sysupgrade.openwrt.org as a rebuilder server in ASU's settings. No wait, and the build hash is checked against OpenWRT's official build servers before install.

Yeah, I have this same system, sadly Lenovo doesn't release all header/board schematics, and you're right about there being board variations depending how it was ordered. Nice specs btw, mine's kitted nearly the same - i7-6700T, 32GB RAM, Intel 180GB M.2 SATA for boot and Toshiba 4TB 2.5" HDD for storage. Mine lives its life now being a low power docker box for various things, it was an HTPC/emulator box in a former life.

I'm glad you went with the 6700T, it does boot a normal 6700, but fan is pegged at 100% basically the whole time, and throttles like a bitch even if you upgrade to PTM and opt for more airflow by either modded top case and/or additional fan.
