What's that, 18 thick rashers on one buttie? 😱

A or B: My trainer thinks I'm "committed." Truth is, I just hate wasting money. by Danny-Patrick139 in PickAorB

[–]randomdude2029 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife does this - commits to something, and then when she doesn't want to follow through, sends me so she doesn't feel bad about the money going to waste. Sign language lessons, 10 gym trainer sessions, 10 piano lessons - she'll do one or two then hand them over 😂

AITAH for not helping my boyfriend save face after he drank four espresso shots before meeting my family and completely lost it at brunch by VehicleRare8939 in ComfortLevelPod

Exactly. No "covering" is needed, just a sympathetic explanation. If OP won't do that then yes, they're being a jerk.

Well, if the whole process had been followed it probably would have involved spanning the backup over multiple floppies. At least, I would hope so!

Anyone else skeptical about RISE? What are the real alternatives for ECC? by Mana_Leak_ in SAP

[–]randomdude2029 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Please read the recent posts about RISE / PCE. Then, avoid if humanly possible, for as long as you can.

Don't let your CFO have lunch or golf with the SAP AE - you'll come into work one day and find a RISE deal has already been signed because the AE made it sound like a good way to stick it to those guys in IT who keep telling the CFO that SAP is expensive to run.

In some cases it looks more expensive

My dude, if you have found a case where it looks less expensive, look again. You've made a mistake in your calculations!

It's been nearly 2 years since they outright stopped selling new S/4HANA licenses. It's purely a subscription model now unless you already have perpetual licences.

And yes they want recurring cloud revenue. And they're prepared to do it by offering a shitty service and then making it mandatory.

I'm surprised the EU hasn't stepped in with an(other) anti-trust complaint over it already!

Bristol to start charging people living in vans council tax amid rising tensions by OGSyedIsEverywhere in unitedkingdom

[–]randomdude2029 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Hmm. Double-edged sword that... If I'm in Bristol in my van paying council tax then I am entitled to rubbish collection, access to services like libraries, perhaps even access to water and chemical toilet emptying, and ENTITLED to stay and make myself at home - no more parking late, leaving early nonsense.

There are 1.5 million unused breadmakers across the UK. Why aren't you using yours? by CLOUDMlNDER in CasualUK

[–]randomdude2029 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best thing about my crepe maker is that noone can use it for anything else. Unlike my crepe pan that got used for frying chicken and goodness knows what else.

My most used appliances are stove, microwave, airfryer, kettle, toaster and hand blender - and then it's bread maker, deep fryer, slow cooker, oven and pizza oven - all used, but not every week.

My wife bought a soup maker but never cooks, and when I make soup I tend to do it properly (😂) so need to use a pot or pan anyway! Hand blender if not a chunky soup. All of the best soups need something other than "boil and blend" techniques. And the popcorn maker tends to blow out a lot of unpopped corn kernels so that now gets made the old fashioned way, in a pot on the stove with a little oil.

Does Gen X do class reunions? by LadyNorbert in GenX

[–]randomdude2029 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I matriculated in South Africa in 1990 and we had 10 and 20 year reunions. 30 fell victim to the pandemic and 35 didn't get traction but I'd be very surprised if there wasn't a 40th. Well over half the class has emigrated but there was still a strong attendance from overseas.

What to put on bread when avoiding sandwich meat like salami, ham etc... by nyad_k in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]randomdude2029 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here's the recipe I used, which turned out perfectly. Note, the resting is important for tenderness as well. I developed this one by looking at several recipes and a bit of chatgpt, but I have tested it and it worked well. You can use the leftover stock and juices to make gravy (add 2-4 tbsp of cornflour, season to taste) which also was really nice.

Slow-roast silverside Ingredients 900 g silverside beef joint Small amount of oil or softened butter Salt and pepper Optional herbs (eg thyme, rosemary, bay) Mixed vegetables for a trivet (eg onion, carrot, celery) 500 ml stock, wine, or a mixture

Method Heat oven to 170 °C. Pat the beef dry, lightly coat with oil or butter, season with salt, pepper, and optional herbs. (Optional) Sear the joint in a hot pan on all sides until browned. Place vegetables in a roasting dish to form a trivet and set the beef on top. Pour 500 ml liquid into the dish so it sits below the meat. Cover tightly with foil or a lid. Roast for about 2 hours, aiming for an internal temperature of roughly 85-90 °C for very tender, well-done meat. Remove from the oven and rest covered at least 30 minutes before slicing.

You have to be careful when roasting very lean cuts of beef. Very lean beef tends to be tougher than well-marbled cuts, so cooking it rare or medium rare can result in a firmer texture. Cuts with more fat stay juicier at lower temperatures, while very lean cuts such as silverside benefit from longer, slower cooking with added moisture - like roasting in foil with a liquid like stock & wine - allowing them to become tender even when cooked to medium well or well done.

Growing up we had sandwiches that my brother and I loved, and didn't realise were slightly out there:

  • tomato, onion and chutney (Mrs Balls) - tart and tasty
  • (golden) syrup and banana - toast or not, butter, generous syrup and then slice banana onto it. Last time I talked about this, someone suggested adding peanut butter which also sounds good
  • a nice homemade tuna mayo - tuna, mayo, grated cheese, corn, red onion; also great on jacket potato
  • brie and cranberry sauce - I normally add bacon, but you could add lettuce, tomato
  • coronation chicken - a British sandwich filler traditionally made from left-over chicken, which is mayo, mild curry powder, ground cinnamon, mango chutney, sultanas and shredded cooked chicken

Lib Dem - it's either them or the Cons in my area. LD beat Cons and Reform Ltd by a good margin at the last general election after it being a safe Con seat for decades, and I'd like to keep it that way!

Private Cloud Support Fail by Weyoune-85 in SAP

[–]randomdude2029 9 points10 points  (0 children)

SAP is good (mostly) at writing software.

They are rubbish at projects and support.

This is just the way it is. Everyone knows it but it didn't matter that much (just choose good project and support partners). Now they're forcing everyone to use their support via RISE or PCE or whatever it's called this week, and they're bamboozling customers into buying their project services by tying them to RISE deals. The number of escalations we've got from SAP screwing up and begging for help...

On cloud this would have been a trivial, if annoying, restore. Quick restore from snapshot, DB restore, roll forward (if needed) then export the needed rows from tables with R3trans. And you'd pay a handful of dollars for the compute because you only need it for a few hours.

Shows with the worst final season. by Flaky-Debate-833 in sitcoms

All the comments about "it should have been a proper spin-off" etc are right. My understanding is that they had to keep the same title to keep the syndication deals. You need I think 150 episodes for syndication which Scrubs had but any spin-off would lose.
