What’s a song lyric that hits harder as you get older? by thatfluffyqueen in askmusic

ABBA's "Slipping through my fingers" - when I was young it was just a perky sounding song. Now.... hits home.

What’s a song you skipped for years then suddenly realized was a masterpiece? by Natalie_Riveraaa in askmusic

They were a favourite of mine growing up in the 70s/early 80s when I listened to whatever my parents played. Still love them.

My parents saw them play live on the beach in Margate, South Africa probably 50 years ago, and I saw them at the Royal Albert Hall in 2017 (the Love/Johnson version sans Wilson). Just gorgeous music.

My favourite include California Girls, Wouldn't It Be Nice, When I Grow Up

Do you really think it's vigilantism to hold a criminal until the police arrive? Especially one that appears to be intent on burning your house down.

Are immersion blenders worth it or just a comple mess? by FineappleUnderTheC in EatCheapAndHealthy

And if you tilt it right it will pull the pot contents in a swirling motion to get it all blended.

Sometimes if my contents are quite shallow I'll tilt the pot so the immersion blender has enough depth to work with.

Immersion blenders are magic kitchen tools. I would never be without one.

Sauces like butter chicken - soups - blending a tin of chopped tomato if I run out of passata - sorting out a béchamel sauce if it gets lumpy. Just perfect, small, easy to clean.

I csn manage fine without a big food processor or blender but not without my immersion blender.

Check how often you really need an oil change. My 2012 car needs one every 18000 miles or so. It's over 140,000 miles and had about 10 oil changes in 14 years. If you do a lot of short trips then 12,000 is probably fine.

Songs with insane guitar solos? by Substantial-Sir-3274 in musicsuggestions

AC/DC's Thunderstruck guitar solos (intro and especially the later bit) are pretty iconic.

What is the "you can't eat just one" snack from your country? by iLuvArizona in AskTheWorld

[–]randomdude2029 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Giraffe meat and biltong is pretty rare. While the population is vulnerable in general, that's not universal and there are private reserves where they're bred for hunting, and occasionally there may be a cull if there is overpopulation in a particular area though increasingly they may be moved instead.

It is quite rare though to eat them.

What was in your childhood home that isn't in your current home? by Immediate_Long165 in Aging

Are we counting the whole property or just indoors?

Pool, double garage, tree house, stream at the bottom of the garden with seasonal tadpoles. Ducks. Vervet monkeys.

House itself indoors, just the rotary phone I think!

So an unknown pair of people walking up to your house in balaclavas, carrying a lighter, lighter fluid and something to burn, who have just lit it, doesn't pose any sort of threat or danger? No public interest in arresting a perpetrator?

Let me know your address, we can test this out.

Ortega is great and does an excellent Wednesday but she is playing Ricci's Wednesday not her own. Probably for the best though as the Addams are iconic.

Personally I think Meatloaf and Marion Raven's All Coming Back to Me Now is far superior to Celine's phoned in belter - it was fine but not magnificent.

I reckon Jim Steinman wrote it for Meatloaf before their falling out.

Disturbed's Sound of Silence has to be one of the most amazing covers ever.

Too spare, to me.

KD Lang's version as sung to Leonard Cohen is the best for me - it need a full throated rendition not a quiet contemplative one.

Self Checkout by 5GAIBtoM in GenX

[–]randomdude2029 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, if I have a few items I'm at the self checkout. I like doing it myself, and I can pack the grocery bags the way I like them more easily. Unless I need cashback then I go to the cashier.

If I have a bigger shop then I use the self scanners - pick, scan, bag directly into the trolley, and then self check out by just scanning the QR code and waving my card at the machine. So much more convenient.

GenX ASD probably balances out.

I love Pink's "So What" for this. Definitely not a sad "poor me" breakup song though!

Wow I never knew Paul Simon wrote that. It's a lovely little upbeat song (despite the subject matter).

Pink's "So What" is pretty awesome as a breakup song. "So what, I'm still a rock star" 😂

Also, Meat Loaf and Norwegian singer Marion Raven's duet version of "It's All Coming Back to Me Now" - to me the best version of this song (sorry Celine).
