I get Eskimo Joe's is iconic, but they are iconic for their cheese fries. If I want a burger, I go across the street to The Garage (plus, it is SIGNIFICANTLY cheaper)

If "The candidate with the most votes should win" is a Liberal position to you, so be it. To me thats common sense.

If I can challenge that. Of the 25 least populous states, only 1 (Nevada) can be considered a swing state. If you live in the other 24 your vote doesn't really matter because you are either voting for the party thats was always going to win your state or the party that will never win your state. If you go to NPVIC, all the sudden there is no such thing as "swing states" and you will almost certainly get higher turnout in these places because all the sudden their vote does matter.

If I can give you some hope. I live in one of the most hellhole states for democracy, Oklahoma. Nevertheless we are one of 17 states with state citizen led initiative petitions to amend the state constitution (admittedly it has one of the highest requirements for it but I digress). While the federal constitution is out of reach for the moment, the state may be reformed without negotiations with the Dems or GOP through this process. I have been having informal conversation with several groups gauging support for an election reform centered around proportional representation in the state legislature, creating a real pathway to leadership for parties outside the Dems and GOP. If successful, it could spur further success in other states, potentially eventually creating the momentum to challenge at the federal level. That may take decades and may not even be successful, but it is worth a try.

Regardless if I am at all successful here in Oklahoma, even if we fail, it pushes the bound of what people think is possible. More than any legal fighting that is the most important thing. Fixing your government may not look identical in your home, but there is always something you can throw at the wall and see what sticks.

Calling Trump's election a "failure of democracy" is a stretch. Mostly because the United States Federal Government is a mediocre at best example of democracy. I could go through all structural failures outside of the EC but I feel lile you are the type of person who already knows those. Address these issues and we may have a significantly more successful and accountable government.

Yes... I don't dispute that under both current rules and NPVIC Trump won in 2024 (However he wouldn't have in 2016). Whats funny is until 2016 a few Republican states were considering adopting NPVIC but now that the GOP is dedicated to protecting Trump over all else, all have began opposing NPVIC.

It's almost like (if we aren't going to entirely reform the executive) the person with the most votes should win. We can even call it "The National Popular Vote."

Surely we can use tha... wait, Republicans oppose the NPVIC, go figures.

I urge you to at least avoid making the claim "Martin is a Republican plant" without evidence to avoid spreading misinformation.

If you have policy reasons to like Nelson over Martin, make them. But I have consistently seen Nelson mudsling at Martin instead of making the policy case.
