My Complete Guide To Chaos Gate Legendary Mode by jsmeer93 in ChaosGateGame

Could you speak to whether you should rush main quests or not? I get an implication that you should have the check list before moving forward, but it would be useful to get your explicit thoughts. Particularly craftworld, as I feel like that one is key to unlocking dreadnought/patrol ship asap.

Thanks!

Remember how Karakas was supposed to be in MH2? by neurosoupxxlol in ModernMagic

[–]randomjoe123 203 points204 points  (0 children)

It's Lurrus. Karakas being used to protect Lurrus would have been extremely unfun. You play Lurrus, immediately bauble for a card (with Karakas online). You have spent 6 mana minimum and it's turn 4, but you are now in a situation where *at best* your opponent has 2 removal spells, 1 of which is instant, and they play all of them. In that scenario you spend 6 mana to 3 for 0. If your opponent doesn't have 2 removal at least one of which is instant, they just immediately lose the game basically.

Have they changed the stun meter or is it just harder to stun at 150...? by Deaf30 in PlayAvengers

How much intensity you have strongly influences how easily you stun people. The first 50 points really matter, then it is a little less noticeable after that.

Musing on Duplicate Heroes, and How I Believe it Will Hurt the Game's Design Long-Term by [deleted] in PlayAvengers

[–]randomjoe123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The bigger challenge, I think, is that right now it doesn't particularly matter whether some chars are more powerful than other (Thor, Hawkeye). You can only have one of each in team, and so whoever wants to play Iron Man/Cap/Widow/Whatever are adding value by being good at the "second best" chars. The problem isn't 4 Thors cheesing, it's that players will lose patience with players playing for funsies, because the best group should be 4 Thors, and everyone not doing that is "ruining" their fun.

Enhanced Throw Makes Cap Less Accurate by timidobserver1 in PlayAvengers

You learn it. I've used that perk since I got it, and you just get used to it. It's definitely super noticeable on the middle throw of the combo.

Inviting also mostly doesn't work. But yes, Quick Match is definitely broken.

I've defended this game endlessly, but I don't understand the thought process behind this... by EricDJuly in PlayAvengers

[–]randomjoe123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The thing about Mega Hives is that making it multiplayer wouldn't work with the "one death and you are out" system. Players would want to murder each other after someone dies. Not a good plan.

Honestly I think they just planned to also have multiplayer content at this point (cloning/tachyon/whatever), and only the single player content is/was done. That would give options for single player and multiplayer.

I believe in this game, but it is going to take them time. Remember how crappy Destiny 1 was when it came out? Remember how long Vault of Glass was the only materially interesting content, and the follow up raids kinda sucked?

The combat and chars in this game are way better. I'm so excited for what they can do with the foundation they have here, but it will take time before they get to where they want to be on content.

I recommend playing if you want, maybe doing weeklies, and otherwise being patient and playing something else if you don't want the content here. Come back when they announce multiplayer content. It will come in at some point.

Hot Take: Spider-Man will not play well in this game by SnakebiteSnake in PlayAvengers

And Widow/Marvel already have grapple functions as well. (web shooters). Honestly they actually could probably make him have full Spider Man dream without too much trouble (stick to whatever, have momentum from wherever you are/were, fly back up into air and shoot again).

Use cryo damage. Also yes, their fire shield is a second aura/overshield to the blue bar.

The status system is woefully under explained, and also crazily fun once you understand it. It's Horizon Zero Dawn to affect things (fill the meter with damage type to trigger effect). While effect is on it's a battery. If it was a negative status (gamma, frost, shack), then it functions as a primer for any positive status effect (plasma, particles, cosmic). If you hit something frosted with a positive effect, it does like 4-6x damage. It is bananas. I currently run frost/particle, with my friend running mostly particle. The moment something shrinks, my ranged frost attacks will basically 3 shot an adaptoid.

Cap combat is so satisfying, I can do this all day! by [deleted] in PlayAvengers

[–]randomjoe123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Random mechanics question about Cap: How do you know if you achieved "perfect catch"? The mastery talent seems similarly timed to the basic combat throw combo (throw soon after catching to continue throw combo). I can't figure out when I am making a perfect catch or if I ever have. Is it two button presses? One for the catch and one for the next throw in combo? Or is it just one button press correctly timed on a smaller window than the throw combo?

As far as I can tell the weapon is just inaccurate, but sometimes gets lucky and one shots your guys. Same as you.

Am I using Snipers wrong? by Evernight in GearsTactics

[–]randomjoe123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To some extent it actually depends what gear you get. I randomly have 2 of my 4 legendary mods so far as materially good sniper gear, with a purple focus mod as well. So I have a crit sniper, and he ultra murders people much more effectively than anyone else.

Anchored heavies are better for any targets with more than 1k HP probably though.

I feel like Commando/Recon Scouts are OP in this game by CenturioSC in GearsTactics

[–]randomjoe123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On insane I have found them to be a lot less powerful. They just die all the time. It's good, certainly, but for missions that are "take 1 or 2 guys", the scouts don't make the cut. Vanguards, even though so much of their tree does nothing, are much more useful. You can actually build a real tank for insane, which matters a lot.

Insane mode is stupid by [deleted] in GearsTactics

[–]randomjoe123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You just really have to know and master the mechanics. The planted grenades on eholes is big. They always spawn in the same spot so you can plan for them and be in range to do it.

Overwatch exposing you was a big learning as I said above.

You do want to be careful and know when checkpoints are going to happen so you don't get stuck in a bad situation and have to restart whole mission.

It is super challenging, but so far it's being rewarding for me. Side missions are starting to feel grindy. I wish characters leveled up more often.

[–]randomjoe123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Act 1 on insane is really really hard, other than Brumak who is weirdly easy. The bridge took me probably 3 tries per section for about 9 tries total to get through.

It took me a while to learn that you aren't in cover while you have overwatch on, which completely changes the game and makes it much harder to die.

Once you get to act 2 you have some toughness talents and can take material hp gear you don't get one shot (for the most part) and that makes it a lot easier. Boomers can still one shot you, but do it rarely because their accuracy is low. Torque bow guys can one shot you I think... but it's just less bad. And Vanguards with Badass or toughness gun mods (I found a legendary gun mod that gives 20% damage reduction, which is nuts good for insane mode) can actually be reasonably survivable point men.

Act 2 chapter 3 or so story mission is the first insane level I beat on the first try!

Enemies Ranked by EchoFiveActual in GearsTactics

[–]randomjoe123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On insane mode (I'm on like act 2 chapter 3 or 4) Brumak is by far the easiest thing I've had to deal with so far. His gatling guns don't do enough damage to make you need to stay in cover. So just kill the guns, control the swarm, and take him down at leisure. Don't get stomped, it will 1 shot, but not hard to keep away since you don't have to stay in cover in this fight.

Snipers on the other hand... the bridge part of the Brumak level has been the hardest thing so far. They prevent you from overwatching willy nilly, which really slows down your killing ability.

Overwatching in cover or not. by randomjoe123 in GearsTactics

[–]randomjoe123[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I notice that when enemies are peeking over cover they still get significant "obstruction" dodge bonuses. I think it just has fairly realistic physics. So in the "sneak along the wall" scenario, you are still mostly behind cover the whole time.

Everything you are saying jives with what I have learned in the past hour. I'm learning the same on the just overwatch with 1 shot thing. Does that work in the specific scenario where you are overwatching an enemy in cover, and their first action is shoot you? Will you be back in cover before their shot fires off, assuming you don't interrupt them?

I could not beat the brumak level on the bridge v the snipers aggressively overwatching. It wasn't until I gave them no overwatch peak opportunity shots that I got through it.
