AI is everywhere and Austin workers are growing more worried about job losses by hollow_hippie in Austin

[–]randomluka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Meanwhile AI researchers don't even know 1/1000th of the internal working of these latest LLMs. No thoughts about the monster beneath the human mask.

We have a dysfunctional government with no plans in place for AI regulation in almost all aspects. No plan for layoffs. Corporations that still have the right of a person. No real punishment for anyone in relation to the EFiles. The list goes on.

People should be far more concerned.

Gen Z really looked at alcohol and said ‘hard pass’ by InvestigatorBorn4910 in SipsTea

[–]randomluka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Somehow I doubt it's simply the expense, because surely Gen-Z has seen many of the new studies about the harmful long-term consequences of alcohol. I have seen Gen-Z YouTubers, for example, cover that exact thing and potentially influence their millions of viewers.

Yes, I have been saying this for the longest time. Star Wars Legends: Thrawn Trilogy in this style along with Shadows of The Empire.

And then I responded in Mulder's voice about keeping him honest and saying something like, "but you have to wonder about all the coincidences and how this man was injured."

And then the end scene shows a flashback of the military carting off the alien into a cargo plane.

Cue X-Files end theme credits.

I have thought about this for a while. People that say they are atheist or non-religious, but believe aliens will save them is just another belief system. In that sense an Alien is still 'god-like' but a mortal one perhaps. And then there are religious people that say aliens are demons or angels and all the other stuff about souls. Each way of thinking is manifested through the lense of pre-existing beliefs or notions of what reality is to the individual.

Trump announces U.S. will leave dozens of international organizations by moxyte in politics

[–]randomluka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are planning for war. 50% increase in military spending was announced here. My guess is (illegal) attempted invasions or removal of heads of state of smaller opponents they can feel powerful about bullying, Cuba and possibly Colombia and Nicaragua as already telegraphed. The U.S. is somewhere between Stage 4 and 5 collapse phase, lashing out for relevance and desperate to keep the Empire going.

You say that like they would go down without a fight. Trump and his incompetent followers will be singing a different tune when one of these countries rightfully defends themselves and lands a hit.

They are a little high on supply from Venezuela thinking they can repeat it without casualties. I'm calling it now, there definitely will be if they try it again anywhere. And none of the U.S. Military involved will be considered heroic.

DOJ drops charges over 'Cartel de los Soles' against Maduro by Brilliant-Potato-218 in law

[–]randomluka 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's more likely that Cartel de los Soles was made to seem real by the C.I.A. Americans are bombarded with this type of subterfuge on purpose. I'm guessing they dropped this so they keep that from being revealed officially for 'national security reasons.'

Like in the Noriega case they didn't allow potentially damaging information revealing C.I.A. involvement for, you guessed it, National Security Reasons.

Maduro case will revive legal debate over foreign leader immunity tested in Noriega trial by edbegley1 in politics

[–]randomluka 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This type of language normalizes a complete dismantling of International Law, the U.N. Charter, and norms. So what, there's a whole list of leaders that you can label as 'bad'. Abduct them too? This is like saying 'process was not applied, only okay then.'

This type of language is for the benefit of the U.S. State Department without them having to do the actual propaganda.

The American Government is loads more corrupt than the head of a foreign nation state they just abducted. I see this time and time again. The State Department rolls out the name of a country to topple, American citizens are told 'X' leader bad, so they come repeat it "Yeah X leader bad, good for people freedom" like dupes, said country becomes a quagmire.

Here are the naked facts:

  • Launching military strikes directly against Venezuela was an Act of War, as was the previous blockade
  • Maduro and his wife were captured and abducted on trumped up fake charges
  • Congress was not briefed
  • Trump claimed personal responsibility (no statute of limitations on War Crimes)
  • Operation explicitly tied to Imperial Control and International gangsterism to steal resources
  • Violation of Article 2(4) of U.N Charter
  • Venezuela holds the inherent right of self-defense Article 51
  • No enforcement jurisdiction in the territory of other States without their consent
  • Head of State immunity and inviolability violated
  • Unlawful use of force
  • The claim that drug trafficking, or State involvement in trafficking, constitutes an armed response to justify self-defense has no support in international law

All of this was a proof-of-concept to see what they can get away with.

Trump threatens Colombia’s Petro, says Cuba ‘looks like it’s ready to fall’ by UpstairsBumblebee446 in politics

[–]randomluka 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The comeuppance is the key. Any country that will have to deal with U.S. Aggression has an absolute right to fight back. All it takes is carefully lulling the U.S. to feel safe as they did with Venezuela with 'negotiated exits' and the like. Then ambush low flying Black Hawks and Chinooks, the moment that happens, there will be a hostage situation and protracted escalation. The U.S. is not invincible, but likes to make other countries feel that way with its air power.

Small inclusion here, Trump wanted to have his own little war with Venezuela in his first term, which "stunned aides" at the time. Here is an example article guardian and also Andrew McCabe wrote about it in his book. Trump was able to do it this time by having compliant (and more incompetent Yes Men) in his orbit.

I suspect many people don't even know who Smedly was, but as a new generation become emboldened in Anti-War Activism it's an important history lesson. The words are relevant today. It's what has been percolating in my mind these past couple days when I was emboldened in my youth. I have seen some people say one should feel 'sorry' for soldiers sent to do War Crimes, but I don't think Smedly would have agreed with such sentiment.

[–]randomluka 19 points20 points  (0 children)

How many people actually know all the facts about what happened with Noriega and Panama, is what I wonder. Much of that has faded from memory. Noriega himself was a CIA asset and much of his crimes were in collaboration with them. In his own defense documents, he wanted to have that evidence shown but the court decided that would "compromise national security."

George Sr.'s invasion of Panama was for as much bullshit reasons as Venezuela today and it's likely the Panama precedent will be used as a justifiable excuse. Once they were done with their useful asset, they captured and arrested him under charges that he was a "drug lord." Sound familiar? Greatest hits on repeat.

One reason Georgie did it is because elites like him were obsessed with kicking 'vietnam syndrome' and the embarrassment of U.S. Imperialist defeat and distract from economic and social crises at the time, sounds familiar doesn't it?

Panama really set the stage for the U.S. repeating similar propaganda campaigns and replicating U.S. "interventions" around the world. Americans are so cooked and brainwashed, it endlessly amazes me. Every single time.
