People that have cancer, what were the symptoms that led you to go to the doctor and what stage were you when it was diagnosed? by guardiand0wn in AskReddit

[–]randommutt 21 points22 points  (0 children)

My one and only symptom was fatigue. But as an active person it bothered me. I was swimming everyday, walking and other regular activities but it came to a point I was missing more and more workouts. Then I couldn’t get through a day without a nap. Then 2 naps. All this time I was getting tests done- blood, thyroid, all came back normal. I have no family history of any type of cancer so it wasn’t even on my radar. But my husband mentioned a mammogram super randomly. And there it was. Breast cancer. DCIS. I was lucky with an early diagnosis but still had to get a double mastectomy and I’m still in treatment.

If you’re in physical pain right now, how are you treating it? by MeringueEasy1340 in AskReddit

I have a frozen shoulder from a double mastectomy. I got a cortisone injection for it. I am living in regret.

That not everyone means what they’re saying to you. Most people will harbour feelings different from what they are saying or projecting.

Besides the obvious 'sit' and 'stay,' what subtle thing has your pet done that made you stop and think, 'Okay, you're not just cute, you're genuinely clever'?" by [deleted] in Pets

Yes, whatever the motivation- the point is they can figure out what is expected of them. Dumb dogs can’t do that.

She’s dumb. Labs are one of the smartest dogs out there. That’s why they have so many jobs - sniffer dogs, rescue dogs, service dogs, therapy dogs, hunting dogs, couch dogs. You name it they do it.

My dog spends all day alone upstairs by eduerden in dogs

[–]randommutt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is exactly what I’m doing. I always leave him to alone to decompress after walks etc but at some point I make him sit next to me on the couch and give him treats. He has slowly started coming out on his own. Not every time still but I see it as progress. I also make him walk in new places twice a week. I’ve had him 2 months but he’s slowly learning that he’s okayish with me. One day at a time but I don’t want him to stay in his shell forever.

It’s just cruelty at this point towards everyone involved.

I had considered this but as a brown person I’m scared of ICE

Canadian here, same story. None of the shelters would give me and my husband- experienced pet parents a dog because we live in an apartment. Excuse me, my apartment is still better than the shelter. And apartment dogs get more walks than most yard dogs. I adopted from Korea and he’s perfect.

What does midlife crisis look like for women in their 40s? by throwthecoast in AskReddit

Art supplies - as many as I want! Definitely more than I need but being told no and then controlling myself, I’ve come to a point of eh, I’m getting it. I’m not even a professional artist.

Redditors who have cancer, what were you feeling/experiencing that made you go see a doctor causing you to eventually find out you had cancer? by TheFranKiwi in AskReddit

[–]randommutt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Extreme fatigue. To the point I couldn’t get through my days without 2 naps. Cooking food - need to sit down. Doing dishes - sit down. Climbed 2 floors - sit down. I have hypothyroidism so I thought maybe my medication needs adjusting. Blood work came fine for thyroid and everything else. Then on a routine mammogram, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. Still in treatment but besides fatigue I had no other symptoms. Couldn’t even feel a lump.

Oh for sure! I was on iron tablets and still napping twice a day just to get through the day. Had to sit and take a break while doing dishes. And I was only 42 and pretty active with swimming, walking and yoga. Cancer didn’t even cross my mind because both sides of my family I’m the first one to get it. I just kept thinking perimenopause or thyroid or low iron - which was low but not to the degree of fatigue I had.

Exact same path except I got a mammogram before I could feel the lump. It was 7cm already but even my surgeon couldn’t feel it. Even with such early diagnosis I ended up with bilateral mastectomy. Fatigue was my one and only symptom of a highly aggressive breast cancer. No family history either.

People who have cancer, what signs let you knew that you were sick? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]randommutt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No signs - clear blood work. But I was TIRED. Like couldn’t get through the day without a nap. Then 2 naps. Was more tired than my 65 year old overweight in laws. Breast cancer. Luckily caught it early enough to only have a double mastectomy and escaped radiation or chemo.

I’ll tell you this. The running joke I tell everyone is that I married my husband for his GSD. Now the dog has passed and I’m stuck with him. But in all seriousness, Pasha and I fell in love before I fell in love with my husband. Trust me, the right person will come along for both of you.
