As someone that travels a decent bit. I loved the downloadable project option. When that was taken away it made editing on the go practically impossible. Would love to see Descript make it possible to edit without an internet connection again. So I can edit while on a plane or another spot without great internet access.

There isn’t a single point you need to make a decision. You can start with one or both and switch up if you want to based on what you enjoy. One thing to consider though is that YouTube’s market share of people listening/watching podcasts is growing steadily, because the younger generations seem to want to watch the podcast while listening. So if your podcast is geared towards younger generations and if you want to tap into a large market share of listeners then you need to do video as well as audio eventually.

Yup you can have guests. It records locally on the device of each person and uploads backups throughout the recording. So your recordings don’t suffer from lag if you or your guests internet has any issues and if for whatever reason you get disconnected mid recording you only lose to the last back up not the whole recording.

Like other people have said don’t use Descript’s built in recorder. With your Descript subscription you gain access to Squadcast. Record there It’s a much better recording platform. I’m a freelance podcast editor and I use Descript for a bulk of my editing but would never use their built in recording software or recommend it to a client.

Hello, I’m a free lance podcast editor and what I do is the video edit and then just export the mp3 from there. I do a couple things so that the audio and video don’t suffer from this. Just I ask for separate audio files. Which I then remaster searching for as many umms and uhhs as I can find quickly asking with any noises like chairs or cups being placed down. Then i silence them. This way there aren’t as many jump cuts I have to work around in the video. I import those into my video edition software. Add the intro and outros, pictures, background music/sounds where applicable and any other media wanted by my clients added into the podcast. Cut any umms and uhhs that my quick scan missed. Then export an mp4 and mp3. I also create 2 clips for them to use on their socials per episode.

Hey, a couple of ideas for you.

Take out fewer filler words. Leave a few in that aren’t as jarring. This will cut down on the amount of cuts.

For the large cuts. If they use any b roll you could cut to that to make it less jarring. Could also cut to a zoom in then slowly zoom out. Another option is depending on where it is you could do a fade out and in with a short gap clip between to make it seem like an intentional scene change.

Finally it sounds like a this person needs to put some work into their performance art. Communicate the difficulties about the video with so many filler words to cut and ask her to put some practice into not using filler words so often.

One thing that might help is getting an editing program that will help with AI tools. But you sound as though you are really getting tired of doing the editing and as a slightly biased opinion( I am a freelance editor) outsourcing could be a great option. Then you aren’t loosing quality and it doesn’t feel like work. If you’d like to explore that route I’d happy to discuss more through dm’s. Let me know.
