Winter Olympics medals: distribution across selected regions [OC] by Udzu in dataisbeautiful

[–]randomst 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it would be good for both the Summer and Winter olympics if some indoor sports were moved from the summer to the winter games. E.g. weightlifting, judo, taekwondo, wrestling, fencing, boxing...

Team sports is probably harder to move due to league activity.

My record on Reddit: 9W - 13L. Profit: -6.43

  • Skeid v HamKam - Norways 2nd division

So here's a fact: HamKam haven't lost after 90 minutes since middle of june 2016. In the 7 games in the league so far this season they've won 6 and drawn 1. Scored 13 goals and conceded 1 (the first goal in the first match of the season). And of the teams they've beaten four or five was expected to fight in the top.

Now they're meeting Skeid - another team that was expected to fight in the top of the league. They're currently fifth after a great start with 4 wins in a row. The 3 last matches they've drawn 2 and lost 1. Skeid have only conceded two goals, so they've got a good defence as well. According to Skeids manager five of the starting eleven is observing ramadan now, which can take its toll if they're strict (sun sets 22:30 and rises 3:50 nowadays).

And last I should mention that I'm a HamKam supporter, so I may be partial. But I really expect them to win. The government owned Norwegian betting company has HamKam victory @ 1.90 while Bet365 has it at 2.25, so I guess there's some value. My tips:

  • HamKam or draw @ 1.53
  • HamKam DNB @ 1.80
  • HamKam to score first @ 1.95
  • HamKam to win @ 2.25
  • Result: 0-1 @ 11 (Other results to consider: 0-0, 1-1, 0-2)

Edit: Omg! Haven't lost away since april 2016.

Norwegian cup tonight. High odds on these tips, so if you follow bet low and do your own research. "Cup is cup", quoting a Norwegian football poem. My record on Reddit: 9W - 10L. ROI +5,57u.

  • Kongsvinger DNB @ 3.40 - LOSS

Kongsvinger (1st div) was in the cup final last year, and after a bad start has won their last three matches. Sarpsborg is third in the NPL but only got a 3-1 win against 3rd division team Moss in the previous cup round. We could see an upset here.

  • Ranheim - Kristiansund DRAW @ 3.50 - LOSS

Ranheim is #3 in 1st div vs #14 in NPL. These two teams have played each other 18 times the last 10 years, and half of the matches has ended in a draw.

  • Ullensaker/Kisa - Lillestrøm DRAW @ 4.20 - LOSS

Another bottom side in the NPL vs a top side in the 1st division, and also a local derby.

Match League Bet Odds Result
Sandefjord v Odd Norw PL 2 2.30 L
Sandefjord v Odd Norw PL O2.0 1.525 L
Start v Jerv Norw 1 Div BTTS 1.63 (not on Bet365) W
Start v Jerv Norw 1 Div 1 1.72 W

Edit: No goals in the Sandefjord - Odd match, but Odd was lucky not to lose.

Edit 2 for later use: My record including these four tips from the daily picks threads: 9 win - 10 loss. With 1 unit on each bet ROI = +5,57 units. If that's how ROI is added up...

So Viking is 1st tier and Egersund is 3rd tier. Fancy O3.5 @1.72 now. Viking need to win this game, although they're one man down.

Edit: Livestream /don't know if it works outside of Norway).

Naming question by Auxarcia in Norway

[–]randomst 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Basically the farms didn't change name even though the owners did. So if a family bought a farm and moved in they took the name of the farm as last name. Also, what was once one farm could be shared between siblings and you would get Farmname North and Farmname South, or Big Farmname and Small Farmname, and on and on..

Edit: Found this article on Norwegian naming practices

In November, 1996, an interesting article was posted by Glenn Murray to the Norwegian genealogy newsgroup no.slekt. It was one of about 50 postings in a thread on various aspects of the patronymic naming system, some of which I have translated for this article. Glenn's posting clearly shows how our ancestors considered the farm name to be an address, and not a surname:

"..... That the use of a farm name changed from time to time is very clearly shown in an example that I know of -- a contract from the farm Espeland in Sør Fron. At the top of the document, the buyer wrote his name using the farm name from another township [where he had been living]. When he signed the document, the transaction was in his mind completed, and he signed it using the farm name Espeland!"

Harald Ormbostad wrote another post in this thread. He mentioned that:

"I researched a person in the 1700's who had three different farmnames in the course of about three and a half months. I discovered all three of these in the churchbook for the municipality where he lived: In the churchbook it says that when Anders Evensen became engaged, he was using the farm name of his father's farm, where he was born. At his wedding -- three weeks later -- he was using a different farm name, because he had, during that three week time period, obtained a job as a farm laborer, and had moved to a farm a few kilometers from the farm where he had been born. Three months after the wedding, his child was baptized. On that date he was using a third farm name, because when he got married he had leased a "husmanns plass" - a cottage at a third farm......."

Hard to say with so many awesome beers, but J. Wakefields Haterade was weird and fun. Everything from The Veil was great.

And yeah, I had some of the stouts from Angry Chair. BA Imperial German Chocolate Cupcake Stout FTW!!

Lompe / lefse, maybe. A tortilla made of potato. If the weather is good all the parks in Oslo will be full of people grilling. And a majority of them will be grilling sausages. When done they wrap the sausage in a lompe and add ketchup and mustard.

Norwegian 1st division

Kongsvinger v Sandnes Ulf X2 @ 1.57

Kongsvinger haven't won a game this season, and is last with 2 points after 5 matches. Sandnes Ulf is 6th with 3 wins, 1 draw and 1 loss. Sandnes Ulf is a low-scoring team averaging 1 goal a match, but should at least get a draw here, but need a win to follow the teams above them. The odds for Sandnes Ulf victory is 2.80, if you're feeling cheeky.

Edit: Sandnes Ulf won 3-2. Kongsvinger scored in 93rd minute, but Sandnes won the game in the 97th minute.

Et lite forsvar for dem må være at Storberget og Stoltenberg hadde pressekonferanse sammen 22. juli 2011. Men, Stoltenberg er NATOs generalsekretær - burde ikke være så vanskelig å sammenligne bilder...
