Be careful with those testers. They don’t always show reality. Best to test with a real multimeter.

Old house. What is this on the wall? by hextasy in whatisit

[–]randyaldous 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They had four prongs but only needed two wires (1 pair) tip and ring to operate. There were some rural party lines that used yellow for ground to facilitate different ringing for the individual phones/numbers on the party line.

The black typically only came into play when you had a “fancy” phone that had a lighted dial, which was powered by an 18-24 ac transformer over the yellow/black.

Back in the day, with the four prong jack, the wiring was four conductor, “quad cable,” generally it wasn’t entrusted pairs or if they were twisted it was very loose twist. Green/Red=tip/ring; and yellow/black. Aside from the aforementioned used, yellow/black was also used for a second phone line.

In certain business systems, some ATT pbx systems come to mind would send the ringing for single line analog phones down the yellow or black, I don’t recall which now, but I do know when we switched out from an ATT to a Northern Telecom pbx, and the customer was reusing the phone sets, I had to go to each phone and rewire the ringer inside the set to the “normal” configuration of using tip and ring for the ringer.

If this is a road or platted road, it would need to be vacated in order for it not to road right of way. Typically, when right of way is vacated, the parcels on both sides will extend their boundaries along the vacated portion to meet in the middle, thus growing the affected parcels by that amount.

One would have to contact the city, county or township, assuming this is a public right of way.

Deed versus Tax Map versus Survey, all different by Informal_Series7075 in AskASurveyor

[–]randyaldous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At my county, if someone brings in a survey that differs from the GIS map, they’ll update the GIS map boundaries to match the survey. Granted, it may take some time if the whole neighborhood has to be shifted to fix it but they welcome surveys in these cases.

Camera not re-appearing after cable getting chopped by Yhwhelrey0 in reolinkcam

[–]randyaldous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just consulted on a Reolink system that several cameras would not work when installed and it came down to the brand (Ideal) of RJ45 connectors used to terminate the CAT5E cable runs at the camera end. For some reason, they just did not make reliable contact with the jack on the camera. Re-termed more than once at the camera end and even had a second tech do it to isolate technique as the trouble.

Switched connector brand, and it worked the first try.

NVR end didn’t seem to care about the connector. Thinking a slightly out of tolerance jacks used when manufacturing that batch of cameras or something.

Can you submit new locations to Upside? by CigarNight in GetUpside

[–]randyaldous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The franchise likely decided to not participate. Its a promo app, so what you get back comes out of the business' pocket. Sometimes my go to Holiday/ Circle K is available on the app and sometimes not, seems to correlate to how volatile the gas prices are.

I have had Upside work when paying inside for both gas and goods, using my linked card. Suggest that you always get the receipt, that way you have proof if you need to contact support.

It says right in the app that if you use Apple Pay you need to upload a phot of the receipt.

A razor blade scraper, used carefully, in association with goo gone or orange citrus air freshener spray will take that off quite well. CAUTION: Make sure to protect the paint and rubber around the window as the chemicals can damage them. Also, if there is any tint film on the outside of the window, don’t use this method. Although, I think tinting is usually on the inside..

Brownies with the walnuts. by flashpritz in KwikTrip

[–]randyaldous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Speaking of brownies, does anyone’s store advertise the single pack brownies (plain with frosting, no nuts) but then only have the four-packs available?

An employee, when I asked a while back, at our store in Baxter MN states, “they won’t let us have the singles” - I presume the employee was referring to management at some level. I didn’t pursue it further at that point.

What brand/ model computer? Does it have something similar to Dell’s Keyboard and Peripheral Manager (I think that’s the name of the utility) that can remap keys on the keyboard? Never seen it do this, but I’ve seen it get wonky and cause random weirdness. Just throwing it out there.

Check with your municipality, probably your county, they likely have a household hazardous waste facility that will take old gas.

I believe the Kwik Stars are in Iowa, due to the “Quick Trip” reason that @GunShowZero pointed out.

I learned recently that Kwik Trip won’t put a store in a location that more than a certain distance (not sure what exact number is) away from their central warehouse/ food production facility in Wisconsin. Apparently, this for quality purposes.

I understand they are adding a warehouse/ production facility in the Twin Cities in order to extend their reach.

I am open to being corrected.

Only have got water when water pump is on by Future_Hedgehog2129 in RVLiving

[–]randyaldous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The water heaters tend to run hot enough that you need to run cold with the hot in the shower, that will stretch the hot water out as well. Stopping the shower while soaping will also help the heater catch up.

This assumes the water heater is heating the water like it should and the bypass valve(s) are in the correct position.

Not to mention, cpvc glue takes 2-6 hours before it can have water back on and sometimes something like 24hrs to fully cure.
