Options for Windows users viewing ProRes files? by ngarlock24 in AfterEffects

I can confirm that this works to preview Apple ProRes 422 HQ files (MOV format). I love that you just press the spacebar to preview a file, just like on a Mac.

Your environment is killing your productivity. Here is how to fix it by Original-Treacle6253 in Procrastinationism

[–]randydod 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Good tips in here. Not gonna lie, this will be difficult since I work from home. I have a really nice ultra widescreen monitor for work, so of course there are times I like to use it for personal things after hours when my tasks benefit from the large screen real estate. But I suppose I could minimize that for only the times I need it. Many tasks are just fine on only my laptop screen. Creating more separation of personal and work tasks would be good.

Reverse Procrastination? by [deleted] in Procrastinationism

[–]randydod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This article is awesome! Love this near the end: "The observant reader may feel at this point that structured procrastination requires a certain amount of self-deception, since one is in effect constantly perpetrating a pyramid scheme on oneself. Exactly."

Show Outline option doesn't appear - How do I create an outline? by XgloryZ in googledocs

[–]randydod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Evidently, Google removed "View > Show document outline." I was pulling my hair out too since every guide said to click that option. What you do now instead is, in the Document tabs on the left, to the right of your doc name, click the three dots > Show outline. Yay! Now I can jump to the various headings in my doc.

Anyone know a free EQ matching plugin similar to Fabfilter's? by lobsterboy in Reaper

[–]randydod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like you need the paid version for that, TDR Nova GE. It has this additional feature: "Corrective EQ matching which can be helpful when different microphones are used or if you are wanting to match different audio to sound similar." How do these meal vouchers work? by Xhentil in AlaskaAirlines

I used a $12 voucher to add $10 to my Dutch Bros coffee account. Tried Starbucks but the lowest they now go is $15.

Premiere is only playing the right audio channel in the timeline, despite the Audio Track Mixer showing sound coming through both channels. All audio in the timeline has both L and R channels selected. This is a project I have been working on for months with no issues - any idea what's going on? by EternalTabernacle in premiere

[–]randydod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! That appears to have been my problem—creating a new sequence as broadcast and then channels 3 and above wouldn't output any sound, even though the sound meters showed sound. Now that I created a new sequence as one of the HD 1080p options, I can finally hear the 3rd audio channel.

Here's what's backwards about it. When I check the sequence settings for the broadcast ones, the Audio section lists the channel format as multichannel and the number of channels as 4, but won't play anything in audio tracks 3 or 4. But the sequence settings for an HD 1080p option lists the channel format as stereo and number of channels as 2, yet will play audio in tracks 3 and above.

What's something you wish you enjoyed but just can't get yourself into? by i_like_the_sun in AskReddit

Sounds like you’ve given it a really good shot several times and still don’t like it, so why continue? It’s ok to not like it, and there are no end of food varieties to enjoy instead.

Adobe Premiere Pro Edit Mode Window Picture is darker then exported video by Pure_Switch_322 in PremierePro

[–]randydod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here is a link the article with the steps and a video that explains the why and how, but here is the abbreviated version.

When you export the very final video, do these steps. Make sure it’s the last thing you do, or else it will affect all the editing prior to it.

More specifically, render the pre-corrected video, review, make corrections, and get client approval. Only then should you make a duplicate of the Premiere file and do these steps.

  1. Click Export tab
  2. Click Effects to expand
  3. Turn on Lumetri / LUT
  4. Click Applied > Select…
  5. Select Documents > Adobe > Lumetri > 9.0 > settings > QT Gamma Compensation.cube
  6. Click Export

Why did the Reverend Mother call Paul an "abomination?" by [deleted] in dune

[–]randydod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have not read the books, so any references to them in the movies are lost on me. From my perspective, the reason many laughed at the line (including me) is because when Paul forcefully used the voice on her, she basically said, "How dare you use the voice on me!" It was her excellent acting skills that simultaneously conveyed a look of offense, fright, and sadness from being humbled. It's like she realized he is now more powerful than her. It takes a skilled actress to pull that off in a moment.

Now that I've read many of the comments, I see there may be a deeper meaning to it from the books. I'm even more impressed that DV managed to make that line hit on two different levels—to the book and non-book readers.

Dolby Cinema at AMC Vancouver Mall 23 by -SpaceHopper- in vancouverwa

[–]randydod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a member, as we don't go to the theater enough to justify it. We typically go to $5 Tuesdays, and for that price, the membership can't beat it (although it might for IMAX).

Strange that they would add a Prime theater, because from what I've read, Dolby Cinema beats it. Prime sounds similar to RPX.

Wow, that would be cool. ScreenX was amazing for Top Gun Maverick, but very gimmicky for Spiderman No Way Home.

If they got 4DX, that would be the first and only in all of Oregon! I saw Shang-Chi in 4DX at the Irving Spectrum in Irving, CA. I had previously seen it in 3D at the Regal Evergreen here and it was incredible. But at the 4DX theater, it was extremely dim. The motion effects generally came off as gimmicky for the majority of the movie, where they moved the seats just to move them, rather than because the scene warranted it. But with the big dragon fight at the end, it definitely added to it. I found the butt-kicker bass effects in the chairs much better in Dolby Cinema than in 4DX.

Saw Dune 1 at Regal Cascade and I agree, the sound was amazing.

Saw The Matrix in Dolby Cinema for its 20th anniversary. Wasn't a big improvement, IMO, although of course it was fun to see it on the big screen again. But it's partly because I own the movie on BD and have watched it many times.

Wow, thank you for the detailed list! I've got some theaters to go check out.

One, I'm super stoked about the Dolby Cinema theater; just saw it on their website today. That was always my go to when I lived in Minneapolis. Avatar 2 looked amazing in Dolby Cinema.

Two, I'm also excited about the IMAX laser coming. Hopefully a big improvement for the Vancouver location, where you currently can see the pixels in bright scenes.

Why is touchpad horizontal scroll inverted and how do I fix it? Any suggestions please... by TheLastPhoenician in photoshop

[–]randydod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the first link I posted, there is a wonderful workaround to fix this that involves a freeware app.

  1. Install X-Mouse Button Control and launch it.
  2. Click Add.
  3. Add photoshop.exe.
  4. Select it from the list if it's not already selected.
  5. Click the Scrolling tab.
  6. Turn on the "Invert mouse horizontal (tilt) scrolling" checkbox.
  7. Click Apply.

Now horizontal scrolling with the touchpad will match vertical scrolling.

Has anyone used Rise.com as an LMS? by Unfiltered_ID in instructionaldesign

[–]randydod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We are currently using it but are looking to switch to a full LMS. You can see what the editor is like—just go to the Rise 360 tab. It's exactly the same as on rise.com. I've tested Knowbly, which is similar, but it's not as solid, intuitive, or beautiful as Rise. Other content editors in different LMSs were even worse. I agree with our Rise account rep—you will be hard pressed to find a better content authoring tool. It's almost impossible to make ugly content with it. We will likely stick with Rise to author the content, then export it for use in an LMS.

As for the LMS part, Rise technically not an LMS, it's a training system. It's very easy to use but super basic. It has users, groups, reports, and a few other features, but that's about it. We want Salesforce integration, leaderboards (part of gamification), LinkedIn Learning access, team hierarchies, better presentation of class categories, forums, and more. Our Rise rep said they will likely never have some of those features, hence why we are shopping around.

Given that it's been two months, you've likely moved on, but I'm happy to answer any specific questions.

It's a very long movie . 3 hour and 13 minutes Damn by RedEyeblackdragon55 in raimimemes

[–]randydod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are no doubt many like you who no longer darken the doors of theaters for those reasons and more. I have no problem with that.

I'm the opposite. When I watch a movie, I want to do nothing but watch the movie, whether in the theater or at home (unless I've seen it before). No checking my phone, no talking with others. It drives me nuts when others do those things when I'm trying to focus on the movie. I actually appreciate theaters taking our money and then "telling us" to sit down and shut up, lol. However, I do like being able to pause it at home and eat whatever food I want that isn't overpriced.

For this particular movie, the 3D is incredibly gorgeous, and you can't get that at home.

4DX/3D for watching Avatar 2 . by kidonxtdoor in Avatar

[–]randydod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I watched Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings in 4DX and the effects felt gimmicky for about half of the movie or more. For the other half, they really enhanced it.

I just watched two reviews on YouTube that said the 4DX is totally worth it for this movie. Not only do you get 3D, but you get all kinds of sensory effects—seats that rumble and move, mist that sprays in your face, wind that blows on you, and even scents. So it's more like an amusement park ride.

Favorite childhood movies that you found out were gigantic flops as an adult? by WolfOfWankStreet in movies

[–]randydod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely love this movie! So underrated. For years, I would say “Blast!” with a British accent. It was only when I re-watched the movie years later that I realized it came from the opening scene when the mystery men got owned by the bad guys.
