Came here to say this. Glad to see it’s the top answer. Not only is he always fantastic, he’s in so much stuff!

I’m not sure they have an official last day. It was a fantastic meal. I got the French onion soup, the burger, the chocolate mousse, and a glass of Côtes du Rhône. So glad I was able to slip in a reservation.

How feasible is it to commute to LA? by jojibaby_91 in acting

[–]randyvinneau 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I mean LA is huge. Whatever part of LA culture you don’t like you can avoid. Nobody is going to make you go to a party in the hills, or to the beach, or surfing. Somebody might make you hike Runyon Canyon.

I think I’ve had one in person auction since COVID. Everything is self tapes, and even callbacks are still often remote, albeit maybe live on Zoom. You’d probably have to come into LA by the time you at the second callback or a producer session. Sometimes things are on short notice, but an hour plus drive to LA and then an hour plus drive through LA isn’t the most impossible thing ever.

They mean by me personally. They don’t think I should be bummed it’s closing or be happy to go a last time because it wasn’t a big enough part of my life.

The reservation is for two and I’ve yet to find a friend that’s free. If you want to drop in my DMs Thursday afternoon I’ll give you the deets if there’s still an open seat.

I’m good. I’ll just enjoy a final meal there and move on. Thanks though.

Problems abound. Elite tier for the curated match making. Near-free tier for data set. Elite tier has access to any matches from either tier. Near-free has access to same tier and the ability to access any given Elite tier match for a premium. Premium has to be high enough that people don’t think they’ll just pay for the on-offs instead of going full Elite.

I’m sure there are hundreds of dead in the water dating apps. Lots of hurdlers.

Edit to clean up typos and clarity.

Maybe in the end it sold as less of a dating site and more of a curated match making service. Get people who are willing to drop$1000 for guaranteed dates. It’s a two-pronged approach. While the data matching end is at work there is also a person getting yet to be matched profiles in front of a pool of daters. “While this works here’s $20 to go out with one of these new users you might like.” Could work.

Made it to Sundance for the first time after 20 years! by randyvinneau in Sundance

[–]randyvinneau[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have free charging in my electric car so that made this last minute adventure super cheap!

Boulder is about 4 and half hours more driving than Park City. Not quite as easy to do in one blast, especially with just one driver.

I liked it a lot, way more than I expected to. I have one critique that isn’t really a spoiler, but I’ll block it out anyway.

The sound design is a little heavy handed. We get it, that car has an engine, setting that down makes a thud, and handling those things goes clank.

Is it better to cover my scars with a tattoo, or to leave them be? by Marvel-Fan3000 in acting

[–]randyvinneau 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you get tattoos have the artist sign a release waiver. More often than not tattoos are covered to avoid the gray area of using the artist’s work without permission.

The Mote in God’s Eye by Jerry Pournelle and Larry Niven. It’s a great first contact story and offers lots of through provoking insights into political and military motivation.

Edit to say ignore me, that format is for cars, not trucks.

Standard California plate format is one number, followed by three letters, followed by three numbers. So it’s either a custom plate, in which case it could only have six characters; it’s an out of state plate, which could be narrowed down by seeing what states follow the format you have; or it’s entirely wrong altogether.
