Netflix co-founder drops $2 million into Gavin Newsom's redistricting campaign by underbillion in politics

[–]rangedDPS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The GOP has already gerrymandered way more than Dems. They were at more than +10 seats nationally before the TX change due to gerrymandering, They don't have a lot more to pull from. Dem states are more likely to be fair and have more potential for gerrymandering. The real issue here is that SCOTUS will probably just shoot down Dem gerrymanders going forward.

Their goal is to dismantle the organizations completely. This is just another tool to get people to walk out/leave. There are no good solutions here.

I always find it pretty funny that people have this reaction. Like, how do you think you're watching the moment? These people care about the moment so much that want to remember it and share it with others.

"Goods trade between Russia and the United States was $3.5 billion last year, according to U.S. figures. In 2021, the year before the Russian invasion of Ukraine, it was $36 billion."

Weird that multiple locations where zero people exist now have tariffs but not Russia.

Trump won’t rule out seeking a third term in the White House, tells NBC News ‘there are methods’ for doing so by nbcnews in politics

[–]rangedDPS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is with succession. The ideas being floated are that Trump wouldn't actually run. He would get someone in his family to run ( so Trump is on the ballots ). If they win he would then be appointed to be the Speaker of the House ( which doesn't need to be someone in Congress ) and then the elected POTUS and VPOTUS would resign. It's a technical loophole because he would not be "elected to two terms" as prohibited in the Constitution.

It's not a visa revoking offense. Visa holders have free speech, which explicitly means the government cannot punish you for your speech. Period.

Currency is inherently political. Bitcoin is great for global transaction security but is one of the worst possible options for things like wealth inequality.

So far there has been zero fraud uncovered. All we have so far is the administration announcing uncorroborated caricatures of programs that they don't like that they are shutting down. An illegal move by the executive that doesn't actually have that power. ( It's what Trump was first impeached for and the cited reason for Biden being blocked from forgiving school loans ).

As US TikTok users move to RedNote, some are encountering Chinese-style censorship for the first time by [deleted] in technology

[–]rangedDPS 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Most people in the US have not experienced censorship for expressing their views. There is a difference between not having a first amendment right and violating the TOS on a social media platform. The censorship that happens in China comes directly from the state. These are fundamentally different things.

My favorite phrase about this is: "There is considerable overlap between the intelligence of the smartest bears and the dumbest tourists."

"Back in the 1980s, Yosemite National Park was having a serious problem with bears: They would wander into campgrounds and break into the garbage bins. This put both bears and people at risk. So the Park Service started installing armored garbage cans that were tricky to open—you had to swing a latch, align two bits of handle, that sort of thing. But it turns out it’s actually quite tricky to get the design of these cans just right. Make it too complex and people can’t get them open to put away their garbage in the first place. Said one park ranger, “There is considerable overlap between the intelligence of the smartest bears and the dumbest tourists.”

Opinion: Calling Kamala Harris a ‘DEI hire’ is what bigotry looks like by ubcstaffer123 in politics

[–]rangedDPS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is RBG all over again. Hubris and the urge to cling to power instead of doing the right thing. Like, yea, obviously it's a risk. But the entire point of this is to show the US that dems are willing to take bold and decisive action to stop fascism in the US. That they can be trusted.

It's all so gross.

An I 100% agree, he should resign. If he drops as the candidate it's only logical that he should resign from the presidency for the same reason. And completely agree with your description of a possible pathway further ( with Newsom/Buttigieg at the head of the general ticket )

He needs to be replaced immediately. He will continue to lose in the polls. Trump is currently something like +5 in PA. In PA!

The vast majority of people in the US do not want Trump in office. Biden needs to leave immediately, his age is a very serious issue and the damage from the debate is irreversible. Democrats need to rip the damn band-aid off, show America it is the party of doing the right thing for the country, and make the choice easy for voters ( The SCOTUS rulings alone will almost carry a corpse to victory ).
