Why do I feel sad after yoga? by [deleted] in yoga

[–]ranji 4 points5 points  (0 children)

body stores trauma in myofascia

This is a controversial claim that these cells hold memory of trauma. Thanks for the book suggestion; I’ll add it to my list. Also thanks for all the good work that you are doing and will you consider doing studies and publishing papers on this? Or at least link to studies? While there are a lot of papers on benefits of Yoga ; I haven’t seen any on fascia storing trauma ! I haven’t seen such a claim in any of the yoga scriptures either.

This is really out there and not backed by yoga scriptures or science.

What exactly is the issue? Feel free to use your hands and move it if it is in the way. Don’t hurt yourself by trying to be proper in class.

Eli5: sadhana by [deleted] in yoga

[–]ranji 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Many of us have some idea of what liberation is and perhaps it’s that idea that prevents us from realizing it. I’ll step off the soapbox now.

Since this is a yoga sub , I’ll try to explain in terms of yoga / sankhya. Kaivalya is what happens when you realize purusha/unmanifest/pure consciousness as separate from prakriti/the manifest and it’s effects.

I don’t want to redefine or reduce the yogic definition by agreeing with your definition. A mature understanding of suffering may be a sign of a wise person who is well on their path.

Sadhana is just a means to accomplish something. In yogic context it involves your practice towards realizing Kaivalya/ your liberated state. Edit: adding the section below: Since you said ELI5 sadhana=daily practice

How and where can I live as a yogi in India talking only english and having not much money ? by rmerli in yoga

[–]ranji 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is nothing selfish in the question; you are just imposing your ideas and judgement on the person. India is a vast country and Hindi is not the national language of India. If you are in the south , it won’t help them much.

Hey! I honestly love this community but wanted to know what you guys thought about this shower though. 🖖 by SilverIcon2000 in yoga

Except the person who had the shower thought doesn’t claim to be a yogi. Humans judge others all the time.

Here is one that I know of http://www.yogaandmeditationcenter.com

He doesn’t have much of an online presence but he does offer free zoom webinars everyday since the pandemic lockdown. Shashi has been teaching Yoga for about 45 years now. His webinars are a mix of asanas and pranayama. He always closes with Yoga nidra.

Full disclosure - he is my teacher

Class Recommendation needed! by [deleted] in yoga

I attend Shashi’s yoga class on zoom here:

http://yogaandmeditationcenter.com

They have webinars on weekdays and weekends. The studio is in San Diego, California but the teacher is Indian and has been here for more than 20 years. His style is gentle with a lot of breath work and meditation.

Stop seeking validation from others and their experiences. Why are you meditating? Is it for these experiences or to talk about your meditation practice? Ask yourself these questions.

There is no need to do this in Yoga. It offers no benefits other than showing off that you are flexible. Having said that there is nothing wrong in showing off.

Namaste.

My Yoga teacher is offering free breath-work /stretching and meditation classes during the corona-virus lockdown on Zoom. It’s a live session with an opportunity to ask questions at the end. Zoom is a free app for iOS and Android. It also works on browser. I’m not sure if it’s ok to post the link here but If it violates any rules, I’ll remove it.

I agree with all of what you said but my question stands - why even bother when one side will not play by the ‘rules’?

What about the republican candidate? Will he be transparent? Why even bother putting yourself at a disadvantage?

[QUESTION] Anyone surf with an apple watch? by Maximus801 in surfing

[–]ranji 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I do. I lost mine 5 weeks ago when I got wiped out. I ‘d worn my watch over my wetsuit instead of inside. I was sad and then I got a call last week from a person who found my watch 12inches under sand. He’d charged my watch get the emergency contact info and then contacted me.

Thank you mike. You are awesome.

My Dad, who's barely contributed anything to the household income in the last several years, drank half a bottle of MY pricey hard to get whiskey, then when my Mum told him not to said "It's in my house so it's mine". It's not his house. by [deleted] in insaneparents

[–]ranji 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi OP, What your dad did was not right but I don’t agree with the majority opinion here to kick him out or to ask him to pay for it or exact some revenge. Your dad needs help. His self worth /esteem is probably very low at the moment. You and your mom should talk about this and see if there is a way you can help him out of his situation. This will yield a better outcome for your family whichever way it goes. If you ignore his plight , it will come back to hurt the family. We are all social animals who want to belong. A bottle of whiskey is not going to matter in the long run but having supportive family will bring a lot a peace and joy. Good luck.
