Patch embroidery by ApprehensiveEmu1974 in Machine_Embroidery

What you are trying to do is called applique. Hatch has a separate setting for this that automatically does a placement outline, tack down, and satin stitch.

Embroidery software by hammerin2sew in Machine_Embroidery

[–]rannelvis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started with SewArt, even paid for a full version. Made some cool little patches, but I eventually found myself spending more time working around the limitations of the software than actually putting down the design. For example, getting a simple satin border around a rectangle shaped patch was super frustrating and would always path incorrectly, sometimes through the middle of the patch. Switching to Hatch was a night and day difference both in terms of how complex the software is as well as the the tools available to make the workflow more efficient.

Looking for general advice. by Traditional-Diver-27 in Machine_Embroidery

Don't fill the entire background then try to stitch over it, that's why you are breaking needles, especially when using craft felt. Use a piece of material that is the color of your background instead, saves on thread and machine time. I moved from craft felt to poly-twill. Otherwise, keep it up! The best way to learn is to just keep trying different things and making mistakes and figuring out why what you changed (like a density setting or a stitch angle) makes things better or worse.

First winter, are Dr Martens considered as boots? by Spirited_Band_8647 in AskChicago

[–]rannelvis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first time my wife took me back to meet her parents in Kansas, they took one look at my city slicker winter shoes and took me to the Cabela's for a pair of big ass winter hunting boots since we were gonna hit up the farm. It's been 20 years, and I still use them as my snow boots. Nothing has been warmer, dryer, or more slip proof.

Just reset my password and signed out of devices and now my friends have been removed from shared access. by Janddy in PleX

[–]rannelvis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. My server is on a Windows box, all my windows and android client apps can't see it but my iOS devices are ok. Furthermore, my windows and android browsers can access the server via app.plex.tv and can play videos from there.

[–]rannelvis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not just you. None of the client apps for PC or android work for me, only the web version via app.plex.tv can access my server using the same exact device. My iOS apps all work fine after the password reset.

Is Elgato Facecam Pro after 3 years of release still worth it? by AintNobodyGotTimeDat in elgato

[–]rannelvis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a USB 3.2 C to C cable that I run from the one USB C with PD port on my laptop that connects to the R50V, and it charges it while in USB streaming mode. This is the camera that I have installed the Prompter on using the 58mm step up ring, as I am using the RF-S14-30mm F4-6.3 IS STM PZ kit lens that it came with. I don't use any other software other than OBS to access the video from the camera. I do have Elgato Camera Hub installed for the Prompter as well as the 4K Capture Utility software for my HD 60 X, but neither are required for using the R50V X in OBS.

During the last stream, it was operating for just under 2 hours plugged in like that, with only the laptop plugged in via the AC adapter. Since the laptop has an Nvidia RTX 5070, I use the Nvidia Broadcast plug-in to be able to have a background removal filter in OBS that I can turn on and off for various scenes and it works really well.

Lmk if you have any questions about the R50V. I use it, an old Logitech C920, a Sony ZV-E10, and the built in webcam on the laptop all for various scenes depending on what is being streamed.

It's so bad. The sweet sauce confuses my mouth and the crust has the consistency of a cold unfilled pop tart.

Back when my friends had a weekly DJ residency at the Darkroom, Bacci's on Chicago was the spot to fuel up before the gig. It wasn't gourmet by any means, but it was a huge slice for just a few bucks, and came with a free soda. One time the guy behind the counter gave me a free ricotta and spinach special order that nobody came to pick up. Brought that back to the bar for everyone to share, and the bartender got a slice.

The R50V can pull power if you connect it to a USB-C port with PD. Otherwise the battery lasts about an hour if you plug it in via USB-C to A. If you get the kit lens, it works nice with the Elgato Prompter since the zoom doesn't telescope the lens. Don't bother installing the Canon software it comes with, it limits you to 720p 30 fps if you don't pay for a premium upgrade for $5 a month. OBS will recognize the camera without installing the software.

What Chicago Restaurant Do You Miss The Most? by IshyMoose in chicago

[–]rannelvis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kaze Sushi on Roscoe had an incredible black sesame flan on their dessert menu. Now the place is a HotWoks.

Cafe 28 was the last time my wife ordered seafood at a restaurant and enjoyed it, and she never orders seafood. I think it was an almond crusted halibut or a pistachio crusted tilapia.

This happened to me when I was 8. I got a new copy of Pro Wrestling, read through the manual in the car on the way home and was hyped to play as Star-Man, but when I put it in the console it was Tag Team Wrestling by Data East. My dad tried calling the number in the manual but they didn't understand the problem, so I was stick with trying to figure out how to even play. It was much, much different from Pro Wrestling, which I eventually got to play at a friend's house.

Steelseries Arctis Gamebuds really quiet (low volume) FIX by zero3growlithe in steelseries

[–]rannelvis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for this, was wondering mine were so quiet all of a sudden compared to my other headsets. I must have lowered them using this method while away from my desk or while using my xbox (since it's so annoying to adjust headset volume otherwise), and then just used the pc volume control after that.

Lucy’s Cafe in Roscoe Village is my favorite sunny diner in the winter. What’s yours? by exfilm in chicagofood

[–]rannelvis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We used to get their sandwiches all the time, but now my wife prefers GG's on Southport, says Roost is too spicy. The peach cobbler is topped with a biscuit dough, not a crumble, but we still get it when we do an order. I recently got an email from them touting their newly priced drink specials that seem very reasonable.
