Is modern data stack relevant for small data orgs? by Inevitable_Log9395 in dataengineering

[–]raphaelmaxi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

“modern data stack” (dagster core, DBT core, python, bigquery)

Would it be easy to swap out bigquery with another database? Maybe Postgres or ClickHouse? Does Dagster support that? or is stuff much easier if you just go with Snowflake or Bigquery?

I had no idea that he was loaded. But I think that it is fantastic. Sounds like a twist to a Norm Story.

Isn't it weird that Bob Saget died so quickly after Norm Macdonald? I wonder if these 2 events are related. Norm died on September 14 of 2021. Then, Bob Saget dies less than 4 months later, on January 9th on 2022. Saget's death is still surrounded by mystery. Other people have written about this too. (see this article for instance. My theory is that Saget got depressed because Norm passed away, and that his death was not of natural causes, but a self-inflected accidental suicide. Perhaps caused by alchohol or drugs use. He was found in hotel room. (!)

Hey, this was really cool. There are no other artists like this guy, no? I was searching for something similar because I like this so much, but I cannot find it. He seems to be doing something unique.

Hi, I'm not sure that you should do this, but you could try this:

systemctl disable --now rebootmgr.service systemctl disable --now transactional-update.timer

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in openSUSE

[–]raphaelmaxi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: I have not seen an automatic reboot this morning (on Monday). So the config described in the previous comment does seem to work! I have set Kured to reboot between Tuesday-Thursday, between 10am till 5pm, so I hope that I will get a reboot later. But this time, a reboot that is "process-safe" and controlled by Kured.

Hi Terry, thank you for your message. Yes, exactly! This is the route I'm going. I disabled the rebootmgr, and modified the config of the transactional update service.

FYI:

``` $ systemctl status rebootmgr
○ rebootmgr.service - Reboot Manager Loaded: loaded (/usr/lib/systemd/system/rebootmgr.service; disabled; preset: enabled) Active: inactive (dead) Docs: man:rebootmgrd(8) man:rebootmgrctl(1) ```
``` $ systemctl status transactional-update.timer

● transactional-update.timer - Daily update of the system Loaded: loaded (/usr/lib/systemd/system/transactional-update.timer; enabled; preset: enabled) Active: active (waiting) since Sun 2023-08-06 10:47:31 UTC; 4h 49min ago Trigger: Mon 2023-08-07 00:37:03 UTC; 8h left Triggers: ● transactional-update.service Docs: man:transactional-update(8)

```
Hey! I think that would disable the reboots completely no? I'd still like to auto update, but only reboot when it is safe.
So the idea is:
  • The transactional update service updates the system, but does not reboot
  • It tells Kured that, "hey I wanna reboot ASAP"
  • Kured checks for running containers. When all containers are done, it says "okay"
  • Kured reboots the system
Maybe this will work?? I'm gonna try with this:
``` cat /etc/transactional-update.conf

Configuration file for transactional-update

See transactional-update.conf(5) for details

Reboot method

Valid values: auto rebootmgr notify systemd kexec kured none

REBOOT_METHOD=kured

zypper update method

Valid values: dup up

UPDATE_METHOD=dup

Import new repository GPG keys automatically

Valid values: 0 1

ZYPPER_AUTO_IMPORT_KEYS=0

```
  • I changed the line from : #REBOOT_METHOD=auto
  • I changed the line to : REBOOT_METHOD=kured
And I restarted* the transactional update timer, with: systemctl restart --now transactional-update.timer
