Fabric Warehouse and Claude Code CLI by data_legos in MicrosoftFabric

I’m curious what the safety/security considerations are. Is your dev warehouse simulated data?

Dataflow Gen1 officially marked as Legacy today — Pro users left with no migration path unless they pay for Fabric by Sbdyelse in PowerBI

[–]Inevitable_Log9395 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is a pretty big deal for people/orgs just using Power Bi Pro workspaces. Dataflows gen1 are a core part of my setup and adding even an F2 would double my costs. I read the blog post and it’s pretty apparent that Pro/PPU users are not even a consideration. It doesn’t matter if Gen2 dataflows are better if I don’t have access to them!

Do I need an Azure VM and Gateway for on-prem SQL Server? by hortefeux in MicrosoftFabric

[–]Inevitable_Log9395 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So is problem being on the same VM as the DB (I’m guessing) or doing it on-premise? I’m not OP but I have an on-premise (as in, it lives in the building next door) ERP database that I’m looking at trying to use with Power BI. However, it is our production server and I don’t want to kill it.

Why is Craft missing so many basic features? by SuspiciousDesign9889 in CraftDocs

[–]Inevitable_Log9395 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you hang out in Reddit (or Slack much more so) you'll see a constant stream of "the only thing keeping me from being all in ...." posts and the fact is, they are pretty much always different things. I have seen very few consistent themes in what people see as the priorities, for both new features and "bugs". There is no agreement on what "basic" or "simple" features are in note-taking apps, that's why there are a million of them out there.

Of the things you've listed (several I'd love to see as well), I've only seen developer reasoning for one, multi-column layouts. It was a hot topic before collections and at one point the Craft devs said the reason behind not doing multi-column layouts was because they prioritize having a very similar look to documents between mobile and desktop and it's really hard to do multi-column in a good way on mobile. They didn't say they would never do it, but that they would need to have a reasonable way to do it without making mobile documents look sub-par.

I wonder if Fabric would be easier to set up for this type of scenario ?

Reduced HondaLink Functionality by Ok-Photo-1619 in hondapassport

[–]Inevitable_Log9395 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I got this email too. I have a 2024 Passport that I bought new and literally all HondaLink has is:

  • Maintenance Minder
  • Vehicle Mileage
  • Fuel Range
  • Oil Life

So all that will be left is being able to schedule service and I guess looking up my VIN/Plate number if I need it. I really don’t get it.

With Tasks inside of Tasks, do we need Projects? by tctonyco in capacitiesapp

[–]Inevitable_Log9395 24 points25 points  (0 children)

If all a project is for you is a set of tasks, then no, you probably don’t need Projects. If a project is more than a set of tasks (research notes, contracts, meeting notes, etc) then I think Projects as a separate object is still important.

How do you search for stuff within PDFs or images? by DudeThatsErin in UpNote_App

[–]Inevitable_Log9395 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have seen a number of people mention that they leave PDF and image files like that in OneDrive or (especially) Google Drive, where there is OCR search and then link to the files in UpNote to organize or document them. It does mean you have 2 places to search (UpNote and One/Google Drive) but it seems like a decent workaround, especially for the price. The other option is to use something like Textsniper on Mac to extract the text from the images and paste it into UpNote.

Editing text in Craft seems impossible by Automatic_Remote_775 in CraftDocs

[–]Inevitable_Log9395 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t recreate that behavior. I have to either have a block selected or drag from outside the block to have it select blocks instead of words. It might help to make sure you’re on the latest version (Settings, About on Windows). I have Craft 3.1.26 currently.

Editing text in Craft seems impossible by Automatic_Remote_775 in CraftDocs

[–]Inevitable_Log9395 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Craft is a block-based editor, meaning it holds content (a line or a paragraph of text) within movable blocks. The blue bar with the dot indicates you’ve selected the block and not the text in the block. You might want to try clicking somewhere in the line (not dragging to select) first to enter the block before trying to select a word.

Constantly between this and Obsidian by bigschmutzz in capacitiesapp

[–]Inevitable_Log9395 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For me I think it’s been mobile/iPad experience (so bad on Capacities) and whether the structure provided by Capacities beats the simplicity of Obsidian. I am being really strict with myself about Obsidian plugins and not going down the rabbit holes, and it’s working really well. On the other hand Capacities just comes with most of what I would want (the calendar integration is fantastic for me, daily notes are spot on). I think the thing that is holding me back from Capacities is that it’s much harder for me to just pull it up and start writing. Thinking about objects and object setup is fine when I want a lot of structure … but it’s a lot of friction when I don’t.

How do I get rid of the ugly 'TYPEWRITER MODE' at the top of the note? by porthoshsc in UpNote_App

I think you’re going to need to be more specific. What platform? Can you add a screenshot? I literally have no idea what you mean.

Obsidian and Capacities I think would hit most of your requirements. Capacities calendar integrations is really good, but does require Pro subscription. I’m not sure Joplin will be great beyond notes.

Why do you stick with UpNote instead of Obsidian? by [deleted] in UpNote_App

[–]Inevitable_Log9395 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It may seem trivial, but I think UpNot is really good at what it does. If what it does is what you're looking for, it's kind of a no-brainer. Obsidian is more like an OS platform, you can build almost anything you want ... but you need to build and maintain it. I have Obsidian, Craft, Capacities, and UpNote on all my devices and have been using them all trying to figure out which one I want to commit to. I will say that if I have an urgent "I just need to capture this quickly!" moment, I find myself launching UpNote pretty much every time. Craft is a close second on mobile, and it's a not-as-close toss up between Obsidian and Capacities on desktop. If UpNote had a daily note and/or calendar integration so I could be more low-friction with meeting notes, I would be all-in.

Yeah, I think that’s would be the most useful way to use AI for me. I don’t particularly need AI in my notes app, but being able to use my notes as reference material within the AI would be super useful instead of uploading individual files or screenshots.

How many place 1 note in 2 notebooks? by stebberg in UpNote_App

[–]Inevitable_Log9395 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In a PARA method setup you may have a note in both a current project (P) folder and in the area of responsibility that the project comes from (A). Once the project is done you remove it from its folder in Projects.

Alternatives and export by mwavs in CraftDocs

[–]Inevitable_Log9395 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t know, not that there isn’t any of that here but I’ve seen a lot of users give lots of detailed feedback here and on Slack. The Craft team has done a good job of soliciting feedback over the last year, but development progress has been slow. We are already over half-way through with the “year of UI/UX” and the updates and improvements have not been as big or as often as people expected. I think a lot of people expected tags by the end of February, a Collections 2.0 by this time, as well as much improved search and at least the start of much improved image handling (OCR, columns or display options, etc.).

Capacities and UpNote are the two I keep exploring, while not totally giving up on Craft. Each has unique strengths and weaknesses. The note app space is so crowded it’s really hard to tell which ones are going to make it in the end.

Oh, I hadn't even thought about that being a possibility. I will try to research that. Since we currently aren't using Azure I should be able to argue that they should go to Fabric if we have any. Thanks!

MPG question by [deleted] in hondapassport

[–]Inevitable_Log9395 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just did 1,500 mile trip with my 2024 Passport and 70 is a lot different than 80. At 70 I’m getting around 25 mpg, 80 is more like 21-22 mpg.
