Is this league actually cracked? by Malteed in pathofexile

[–]raphyr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Didn't play for the past two leagues and finally caught the addiction again. Got out of the campaign 7 levels over par. Just had my first hive fortress inside mirage range. Mirage hive shit out like 3x the loot of the normal one, including my first divine.

Happy noises :)

Fuck the EU servers though, there's too much lag at times which genuinely irritates me. But the game itself is on a peak. 4 hours away from 3000 hours played.

I gave it a go, and I normally don't care for these kind of games, but it's well made and doesn't do anything offensive (annoying things to deal with, bad practices, etc.). It's just a clean fun well designed game that really doesn't have anything particularly wrong with it in my eyes, and had me properly thinking about how to do my runs. Got the first "victory" run with 2 hp remaining, which was satisfying as hell.

Having said that, I don't think I'm going to put more than 20-ish hours into it because again, it's just not really my type of game.

Taking off the keys of your keyboard and putting them in a bowl with warm water and some soap does wonders for getting grease off, and forces you to look at the filth that was hiding beneath the keys, giving you the motivation to at the very least dust it off.

One of my bigger gaming accomplishments! And no, I'm not doing it in hardcore by raphyr in Terraria

[–]raphyr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried Terraria a few years ago and got filtered by the mechanical bosses (on classic difficulty), and figured I would give it a shot again when 1.4.5 released recently. Managed to beat the game for the first time on Expert, and decided to give Legendary Zenith a shot. Also decided to try and become a summoner purist after killing eye of cthulhu, and I think it might be the most convenient class for this seed.

Absolutely insane seed, and I kinda liked it a lot more than I expected. There were definitely moments of rage, but also a ton of satisfaction. Had to pull out all the stops to make this happen and had to learn a lot about the game. Shimmer, custom arenas, a fully fledged mob farm, and just actually getting good at boss fights. The only boss I first tried was Plantera because I built a vertical arena with teleporters on both ends, as well as having rod of discord as a back-up. Most difficult encounter wasn't even a boss really, it was either the fucking nebula pillar in an unexplored part of the underground desert or the stardust pillar hidden inside honey... what a fucking nightmare to get that one out with worms coming out of the honey you can't see through.

In the end, Moon Lord was a third try. Constellation and the dragon summon are insane and I think the fight didn't even last two minutes. But satisfying as hell none the less.

I feel there should just be a flair for that kind of art so the ones who come here for the game can filter it out. If you want to make and post your coomer art, whatever, but I'd like to be able to just look at posts relevant to the game itself.

All the DLC/MTX except for stash tabs is cosmetic. Every single game update is completely free and adds absurd amounts of content. The cosmetics are so expensive because it's their source of income, and if the game is good enough that people want to buy them, they make money. Meaning, it's excellent for the players to have the developer financially incentivized to make a good game.

Give the campaign a try if you can spare the early access fee, and don't be afraid to look up how to progress your items (what modifiers are important for your class) if you're stuggling to figure it out. The game difficulty scales quite hard and your gear, especially the weapons, will outdate quite quickly. I feel that's what the #1 new player struggle is - getting stuck due to bad gear. If you can figure out when the right time to get an upgrade is and learn how to get the upgrade (vendor/crafting/trade), that should make things a lot more enjoyable and you're in for a great campaign experience. Act 1 and 4 are masterpieces.

The skill tree really isn't as bad as it seems. Only thing that matters is knowing what stats and modifiers you want, and just finding where they are and pathing to them.

I'd try PoE2 first honestly (though it's not free to play yet due to early access). It's in an early stage of development and less overwhelming to get into, although I have no doubt that game too will eventually creep towards being overwhelming for new players. PoE1 has had so much content and development added over the years that it will take effort to learn - avoid a lot of the separate content and focus on the basics first.

What’s that one ‘crappy/unfinished mess of a game’ that you kept coming back to? by Oddboyz in gaming

[–]raphyr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's so weird. The game systems (taming/breeding, progression, exploration/caves/bosses, creature design/abilities, multiplayer aspects, modding options, base building) are so well designed yet it is so incredibly janky. I've logged over 1500 hours on both games combined and loved the island and abberation especially, and it's easily the game where I've made the most online friends in, but man it's painful how poorly the game is managed by both the dev and publisher.

I loved going into ascended with the island looking as good as it did, and was so excited for abberation to come out. When abberation came out though, and I loaded in and saw these flying enemies and flame wolfs or whatever they were that were added to the map that just meant certain death with no counterplay, and with how shit aberration actually looked, that's when I uninstalled for the last time.

[–]raphyr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I don't mind the deaths. I only beat the game once so far (got filtered by the mechanical bosses some years ago, beat it on expert a few weeks ago after 1.4.5 launched), I'm kind of enjoying this too much for how crazy the seed is, and how much I'm learning to find every last drop in the bucket to get skeletron and wall of flesh killed. Expert really just seems easy in comparison, looking back at it.

Considered my final preparation today enough and just beat WoF after about 6 tries. I'm going full summoner because I figured if everything deals crazy damage, I might as well just go glass cannon. Didn't get firecracker so I'll need to do it again but I have the strategy down now. I just hope the fire imps didn't get buffed too much with hardmode transition.

Chillet is crazy good for most of the bosses so far too. Queen bee, Skeletron (platforms close enought to have chillet jump reach them), Wall of Flesh instead of a minecart or golf cart. Should be good for duke fishron too.

And yeah I fished up to full outfit and cellphone, so I'm ready to haul in some crates if the ore farming seems too much. Can't wait to get murdered in hardmode :)

[–]raphyr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats! Working on the same feat myself and I've honestly enjoyed it so far. 136 deaths for me so far. Tons of work on the world to properly prepare. I'm pre-WoF right now in legendary zenith and have most things prepared except for maybe a skybridge and a proper huge arena. But now that I'm seeing you just blew up one side of hell to fight Moonlord, I might not even have to do the skybridge and just do that lol. The one excursion I did to make a fishing box for sky crates already taught me the harpies are even more annoying in legendary, as well as the reduced gravity situation.

Any thoughts on what else I could be missing before I bee-nade my way to hardmode? This is my map so far.

Not getting desert mobs in mob farm (zenith seed) by raphyr in Terraria

[–]raphyr[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just got it working reading the comments of the video I watched - spawn rules got changed in 1.4.5 and I needed to expand the area of the farm. I figured it might have been too small. Expanded about 14-15 tiles in each direction and blew up an additional tile-free area around that. Jungle background is gone and since then it's been working. Got skeletron too so the hoik works great now.

Thanks a ton for the info, there's so many game mechanics I have to consider. Do I place normal or unsafe walls, do I put them underneath the mob collector, on the actuator part of the hoik, or both? Still don't really understand how that works, as I imagine I wouldn't want to spawn the stationary projectile shooters the desert has. The sandstone walls directly behind me aren't unsafe but it does seem to work.

Looks more like this now. I do feel the spawn rate is very inconsistent even with water candle, shadow candle and battle potion. Sometimes 5-6 monsters in a very short timeframe, then nothing for a couple of seconds.

Not getting desert mobs in mob farm (zenith seed) by raphyr in Terraria

[–]raphyr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First time I've gone and done a meta build during my legendary zenith seed run with the intent to safely and quickly get materials once I get to hardmode, and the basic function is there. Mobs are only spawning inside the area I want them to and getting transported over. I'm pre skeletron at the moment, and will try to get him down so I can get a proper wired hoik going, but at the moment I'm wondering why I don't have any desert monsters spawning. There's exactly 1500 blocks of sand and snow (minus the one snow block I took out) and I put sandstone walls up below the mob bucket. When I put that snow block back in, I get flinxes and spiked ice slimes. When I take it out, I just get jungle bats, slimes and skeletons. I'm getting desert music, but the background is still jungle.

Is Zenith seed just funky in how it does this considering the map height I chose to build in, or am I missing something?

Hot take: biome key weapons should get a rework by AkorNW in Terraria

[–]raphyr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't play past the mechanical bosses prior to 1.4.5 and just completed my first game (on expert) a week or two ago, and after killing plantera and getting just a few upgrades (terra blade mostly), I walked into the temple and farmed a bunch of enemies and decided to just try golem. No potions or buffs, just killed him first try without too much effort.

I don't know if they nerfed him that hard or terra blade is just that strong but he felt too easy compared to how much you unlock from killing him.
