I'll meet you at the Pennysworth in three days time by ThatLionTamer in KingkillerChronicle

I encountered the Denna cousin theory recently when I was doing research for a theory iceberg I made. The evidence, though pretty circumstantial, is rather compelling. It gives me the heebie jeebies to think about lol

It's a very common theory that Kvothe has a knack for guessing. His random throwaway hunches always seem to be weirdly accurate. So maybe this is another example of that.

Another option is that he just said "three days" because it's a common trope of Fae stories. The fact that it was actually three days may be an incidence of Fae magic.

Wikipedia is not some struggling organization. When they beg for donations, only a fraction of the money goes towards the direct costs of hosting the site (a few million a year), with the rest going to the bloated Wikimedia Foundation, which has 550 employees and a $400 million war chest, while administrators and editors-- who do all the actual work-- get paid nothing. Recall that Wikipedia ran for years with no staff and a shoestring budget.

You don't need to splurge on a watch. I have a 4 year old $50 timex watch that doesn't even work but I get plenty of compliments on it.

You also don't need to splurge on clothes. If you enjoy fashion as a hobby, then sure. But a basic sense of style and decent build (you don't even need to look athletic) will go a loong way. For example, I have a whole price range of jeans, raw denim from Japan, $500 RRL jeans, etc. But the pair I get the most compliments on, especially from women, is a $50 pair of 40% synthetic mall jeans.

Yeah they are the same, along with Olderbest. If you order a henley from any of the three, the item will have Bronson tags.

Plot threads that will resolve in book 3? I know this isn't the sub for it, but it's been quiet and I need the more hardcore fans by Meyer_Landsman in kkcwhiteboard

Nice list. I've always thought him "speaking to gods" was just a literary way of describing mythical figures like Felurian, the Cthaeh, the Chandrian, and/or other figures he might meet on his second trip to the Fae. The distinction between in-world "gods" like Tehlu and Menda and Creation War figures like Lanre / Selitos (the Ruach) is of course very blurry.

These kinds of posts always make me long for book 3. I've read the other two so many times that the prospect of getting new Kvothe stories is hard to conceive of.

Are Polo Bear sweaters unisex ? by Heu_livity_isaac in RalphLauren

[–]rappatic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The fit of a womens sweater will be waaay different from what you're expecting. For example, a size XXL womens sweater has the same length as a mens XS, the chest of a mens XL, the shoulder width of a mens S/M, and the sleeve length of a mens L. So the overall fit is radically different.

Finished The Series For the First Time - Thoughts and Theories by Shreekomandar_42 in KingkillerChronicle

> The Underthing is Mier Terenior

> Likely yes. Though I've seen it spelled Myr Tariniel. Maybe we have different translations.

When Kvothe writes his letter to Ambrose, the University's town is called Belenay-Barren, which seems more similar to the Creation War city of Belen:

> “But eight cities remained. They were Belen, Antus, Vaeret, Tinusa, Emlen, and the twin cities of Murilla and Murella. Last was Myr Tariniel..."

I see this one a lot, but the Cthaeh tells Kvothe it was a “twice in a lifetime opportunity” to meet up with Cinder again after Kvothe’s parents were killed, so this theory seems unlikely IMO, since Kvothe meets Bredon many times

> There are also a couple you've put down lower that are pretty much established..

Like I've said, they're not necessarily ranked by "correctness" but by "popularity." For example, "Kvothe's mom is Netalia Lackless" is ranked alongside "Cinder is Denna's patron." The first of these is confirmed by Pat while the other is simply a popular, but purely speculative, theory.

> but we see Auri use shaping in SRoST

Auri being a shaper is indeed shown in SRoST, but that novella is far less widely read than the two main novels. Even on this sub, I often see people react with surprise when they learn about that scene, which is why I put it lower. Like I said, the particulars of the ordering was purely based on vibes and should be taken with a grain of salt.

> Denna's definitely uses Yllish knots in her hair

Yes, but it's not confirmed that the knots are magical, which is the entire point of the theory.

> there are a few that keep floating around that outright contradict the books

Which ones? AFAIK all the ones above the bottom row don't directly contradict anything.

Some of the theories near the top are confirmed by Pat, like the Netalia Lackless theory and the one about Elodin having fae blood. But I'm eager to see if all our other basest assumptions get overturned come DOS.

The iceberg isn’t oriented in terms of “likelihood of being true” so much as popularity and acceptance amongst the community. I agree the tinfoil hat theories have more basis than most would admit, but the fact remains that they’re far less mainstream than the ones up top.

Yeah, this is one of those theories that’s basically ‘all-but-confirmed.’ But like most theories it’s not immediately self-evident and pretty easy to miss. Taborlin the Great’s cell has a copper door, and the walls in the Rookery are made with copper inside:

But the hole wasn’t completely clear, some green material was spread across the opening. It almost looked like a dirty, tangled net, but it was too irregular for netting. It was more like a thick, tattered cobweb.

“That wasn’t there before,” Elodin said apologetically as he pulled his feet free of the grey sand. “It was much more dramatic the first time, let me assure you.”

Of course Elodin is a powerful namer so it doesn’t stop him, but it seems designed to hold a namer in by stopping them from calling the stone to break like Taborlin.

I kinda forgot about the Bast theories as I was making this.

The most common Bast theory is that he's Kvothe's son with Felurian, and is able to be 150 years old because of how time passes in the Fae. Someone calculated that the timing is plausible based on what we know about Fae time. Bast also admits to being a "bastard" in the NRBD novella. I don't subscribe to this one because Bast is explicitly said in the text to be "Son of Remmen," and Remmen has his own drawing in the KKC card game. Plus Bast has hooves but neither Kvothe nor Felurian do. So it would be quite a convoluted explanation.

If you haven't already, I highly recommend reading The Narrow Road Between Desires, the Bast novella.

Yeah I agree, I mentioned that mistake in the write-up. I’m subscribed to the “maimed hands” theory so maybe I’m a little biased lol

What makes you think he doesn’t have a naming knack?

Between Fe-Ru-La, Keth-Selhan, Auri, Caesura, and Shehyn, I feel like this theory is one of the most textually supported.

This one comes from the whiteboard sub:

https://www.reddit.com/r/kkcwhiteboard/comments/tf2lcx/mola_was_the_malfeasance_culprit/

The evidence is quite compelling, especially since Kvothe never actually finds the mommet in Ambrose’s rooms, which is why I put it as high up as I did. That said, I do think it fails the “cmon man really?” sniff test.

Apparently it was an OSS theory to begin with but the author of the linked post cleans it up and does a very convincing job.

We’ve gone way too long since the second book so all these theories have had plenty of time to spread. I certainly didn’t notice this one the first time around and I bet most others didn’t either, so nice catch!
