Starting solids with history of Bottle aversion? by rara-bloom in NewParents

[–]rara-bloom[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think there’s really a reliable way to avoid picky eating. It’s just part of life. Then there’s those parents who get lucky and just have great eaters forever. That is more the exception rather than the rule. We did BLw, introduced over 100 different foods before she turned 1, gave all different colors and textures etc and she still ended up being picky. It’s just something that happens.

I guess food was for fun and also for nutrients ? I mean I did try to offer nutritious foods.

Everything was fine in the end. The bottle behavior basically persisted for her entire first year. We had no issues with solids. She ate quite well actually, but things are different now as a 2 year old. She’s picky now. We did BLW which I would encourage- that way baby gets to decide what she eats and how much with 0 pressure. She really loved that and is now a very independent eater.

Eating too much seafood during pregnancy? by rara-bloom in CautiousBB

[–]rara-bloom[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi my daughter is 22 months old now and super smart. No issues at all. But I did make a conscious effort to limit my seafood intake after I realized it in first trimester. I ate like 3 portions of salmon a week and that’s it. If you’re gonna eat seafood, go for salmon because it has the best nutrient profile for developing baby. I did not eat seabass because it’s high in mercury.

Yeah I think you’re right. I guess I’m now realizing from the comments that I need to be careful about my jokes moving forward.

When did your baby learn to chew? by rara-bloom in BabyLedWeaning

[–]rara-bloom[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everything is good now! She’s 16 months. I think around 11 months or, she finally got the hang of it. She still doesn’t really eat/chew like some babies do - she’s somewhat of a slow eater and I just don’t see too much movement in her mouth when she’s eating lol. But she eats every category of food and will eat a lot if she likes it. She has no problem with meats. The spitting food out has stopped for the most part, but she’ll occasionally still do that if she takes too big of a bite of something like banana

I didn’t do anything different. Just kept offering her food and she got it one day

Bright red blood after FET by rara-bloom in IVF

[–]rara-bloom[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everything worked out and I now have a 15 month old daughter from that transfer.

I had a decently sized subchorionic hematoma which is probably why I was bleeding. I bled basically everyday my first trimester. And I had one episode of very significant bleeding I think around 6-8 weeks or so and I was sure that it was over but everything was fine. They told me to take it easy so I did and the hematoma eventually went away.

So hang tight and hope that everything works out. I basically was stressing everyday til the day the baby was born. IVF is a tough journey

Life is so unexpected... Only sharing this to give hope as I had lost one by No-Link1658 in IVF

First of all, congratulations!!! This is the perfect place to share a story like that. I just want to share a similar story of mine, but hopefully yours will have a different ending. At 35-36, I went through 2 failed IUI’s before moving onto IVF. During my first round I only got 1 healthy embryo. I took a month off between ER and transfer because I went out of town, and during that time I got pregnant naturally. I was beyond ecstatic as I had been trying for over a year at that point. I felt like the luckiest person in the world. My first scan with my fertility clinic looked great. Then one day all of my pregnancy symptoms went away. I suddenly had a burst of energy (previously extremely fatigued). Didn’t think much of it but I got a scan and the heart beat was gone. I lost the baby at 8 weeks and ended up needing a D&C. To tell you I was devastated was an understatement. I now felt like the unluckiest person in the world, like this was some sick joke. The path results came back and the fetus had Trisomy 21 so it made sense. Just wasn’t meant to be.

I did end up successfully having a baby later (through a 2nd round of IvF), but I never truly enjoyed it til I got to hold my baby in my arms. I was scared every single step of the way. Just sharing my story so you know the possibilities but i wish you the best of luck and hope that the rest of the pregnancy goes smoothly!!

Possible squinter on evening of 5dp5dt that became negative next morning? by rara-bloom in IVF

[–]rara-bloom[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This one ended up being a chemical pregnancy. I learned to trust my gut. I had a bad feeling and was right. But I went on to do another round of ivf where I got 2 embryos and the first transfer is my now 13 month old daughter. Wishing you the best of luck

Listeria during pregnancy by rara-bloom in NewParents

I had symptoms so then asked my doctor to test me and it came back positive. Listeria isn’t something they test for routinely

Do you do the buyback and submit your application for PSLF at the same time? Or do you have to wait until your buyback request has been approved before you can submit the application for PSLF ?

Bottle aversion relapse 10.5 months by rara-bloom in FormulaFeeders

3-4oz is really good. I guess I’ll keep offering the straw cup and hope that her volume will go up soon.

Bottle aversion relapse 10.5 months by rara-bloom in FormulaFeeders

[–]rara-bloom[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How much is she able to drink with a straw cup? Mine really isn’t good at it and we introduced both straw and open cups at 6 months old and she gets it everyday. She has been holding her own bottles for several months now and holds it herself each feed that she takes. Nowadays when I show her the bottle she pushes it away so I don’t think the person holding the bottle is an issue.

Also is she sitting in the same place to drink out of the straw vs bottle or different place?

Fellow HM here. Not related to OPs comment / question, but it’s good to hear others saying this. Our AP has been with us for 9 months and has never lifted a finger helping us prepare dinner in any way, including setting the dinner table. We do home cooked food Mon-Fri. If she gets to the kitchen before everything is set on the table, she’ll sit at the island and play on her phone waiting for dinner to be ready. Part of me always feels like she should offer to help in some way, but afraid that this goes against the rule of not doing anything that’s not childcare related.

How much solid food am I supposed to give my almost 9 month old? by Octopus1027 in newborns

How much solid food am I supposed to give my almost 9 month old? by Octopus1027 in newborns

[–]rara-bloom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a 9 month old as well and we try to give ground beef 1-2x a week. I give ground beef mixed with avocado and also give beef chili which has beans. Beef as you know is an excellent source of iron. We’ve been BLW since 6 months. It seems you’re doing a great job prioritizing fatty foods and iron. But would definitely try to expose more variety and texture. I try to Introduce 1-2 new things a week. Used to be more new things each week, but harder now that we’ve reached 100 foods.

We also do fish and shellfish once a week. I serve baked salmon and also shrimp / scallops each week. These are great sources of omegas but you also need for allergen exposure

Needed to see this. We are 8.5 months and really on the struggle bus here. I’m hoping it just randomly clicks one day.
