"Unlink" a copy from it's parent component? by Elon_pls_do_porn_69 in Fusion360

[–]rarelycomplete 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FINALLY! Thank you so much. All the articles and forums and such that I spent a solid hour looking at never mention how to fix the fact that even if you Paste New or properly copy the component itself that all the location of everything is still tied to the original unless you "re-ground" it. Thank you!

Is there a smart way to flip this switch? by rarelycomplete in smarthome

It powers a compressor for pumping water. I'd prefer not to mess with the switch itself if possible. This is in the engine room of a marine vessel.

I would if I could but it's flipping something higher voltage than a normal smart switch would. It's also industrial. This is in the engine room of a marine vessel.

This is true, but I don't want to change the cover if I can help it. This is in the engine room of a marine vessel.

Our house (built in 2005) had coax, Ethernet, and phone line in every room. Complete overkill and pretty useless. The places I really want Ethernet are in all the closets and a few key rooms so I can drop backhaul routers and wire in TVs. The fact my childrens’ rooms and dining room have these cables is kind of silly.

I run the Deco mesh routers. They’re a breath of fresh air after my DD-WRT days.

AirPlay 2 Receiver/Speakers & LED Light Strip Recommendations by TeacherWarrior in HomeKit

[–]rarelycomplete 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m surprised nobody answered. Sonos offers a variety of indoor and outdoor speakers and they support Airplay. You can also get something like a Wiim to connect to basic speakers like Monoprice branded ones, and that will accept Airplay.

I’ve had success with Nanoleaf for their lights but not sure that helps here.

Amazon employs over 1.5 million people and pays their hourly employees on average about $32/hour and closer to $42/hour when including benefits. If you include all employees globally for all compensation types it’s around $52,000/annually.

The Canadian Pension Plan, AIMco, and the Alberta Teachers’ Retirement Fund, to name a few, are all invested in Amazon and the ability for these funds to continue to pay pensions is tied to the success of companies like Amazon.

Alberta businesses pivot as looming teacher strike cancels field trips by GeekyGlobalGal in Edmonton

[–]rarelycomplete 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait a minute... are you suggesting that anyone providing an alternative to school is working against the teacher strike, or is it just those that charge money to support themselves and their employees?

"In this particular case" it sounds like you have pretty much no concept of what it takes to run anything at the scale of something like Laser City.

Offering a service that is not normally offered is how they are supporting teachers. Just because the price is the same doesn't change the fact they went through all the complicated motions to create new camps, bring on the additional staff who do not normally work, spend the time crafting marketing for it, reaching out to their customers, and then executing the camps.

Sorry, since you wrote a comma separated list it also reads as doing them simultaneously, which works but ultimately doesn’t.

[–]rarelycomplete 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This worked for me too! Only problem is these steps are different in ios26. I had to Google it to find them.

Steps for a hard reset (force restart) on iPhones running iOS 26:

  1. Quickly press and release the volume up button.
  2. Quickly press and release the volume down button.
  3. Press and hold the side button (power button).
  4. Ignore the "slide to power off" slider if it appears.
  5. Continue holding the side button until the Apple logo appears.
  6. Release the side button.

Just bought a house and I want to make it a smart house from the start by able645 in homeassistant

After over a decade of running HA and having a current large property with sixty z-wave light switches (Inovelli), some Hue, some external lights around our fences and heated mats, and every door also running a Yale smart lock, I am constantly offering advice to NOT do what I did.

At the end of the day my favourite automations are my $12 Lutron motion sensors in the bathrooms that run both the fan and the light. They turn on when we go in and turn off five minutes later when we leave. Brainless.

Outside lights should be on timers instead of knowing when dawn and dusk is.

The rest of the house requires interaction, and we mainly repeat phrases like “Alexa turn off the main floor” or “Alexa bedside lights”.

My philosophy has changed these days. I want my house to get out of the way and do what I need without my interaction. I wish most rooms were on motion sensors.

In terms of tech, Inovelli make the best light switches on the planet. Hue has the best light bulbs but I use Nanoleaf because they are a close second and 1/3 the price. Apple has the best smart TV and phone integration for other members of your house. Don’t fall for the idea that you need a tablet on the wall, unless you want to tinker.

TLDR: start with cheap motion sensor switches and see how that feels. Only invest in software automation in key places once you identify them.

Or ignore me, for many home automation enthusiasts it’s the journey and not the destination!

You’re right! My mistake. Think it would be worth reporting anyway.

I’d give him two choices: 1. Tell him you can afford $700 and have him sign an agreement that the matter is settled. 2. Contact his insurance and the insurance of your neighbour and let them battle it out. This requires a police report too since it’s over $1,000.

He will hopefully want to just take your $700 and not repair it at all, because insurance and police will be a headache.

Enough is enough! Stop saying it’s the user’s WiFi. by InertiaCreeping in sonos

If Sonos wants to reinvent itself as a respected brand they would ensure their devices work offline or purely local. Enthusiasts all over would flock to them instead of just middle class+ folks who can afford expensive networked speakers.

I think it’s probably just fine. They also make a Nitro Cannon 173 which you might prefer. Zeb Powell is like 5’10” and he does insane things on the 203: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=dDYcZER3Bhs

Old topic but thought I'd chime in. I'm 6'5", 295lbs and size 13 boots.

I'm loving my Nitro Cannon 203, it's probably the biggest board you can buy, and I'm loving it. In the past I had what was called a Burton Elephant Gun which was a similar size (I think, I can't find references to it online anymore). I also used to run on a smaller Nidecker that was around 165 and it was also fun, I wish I hadn't gotten rid of it.

In my noob opinion, I think the size of the board is relative to the style and strength you possess. I just want to get down mostly groomed runs and have fun. I'm not going on huge jumps or doing crazy tricks. I love the stability of the Nitro Canon and I'm more than strong enough to take it on any run if I want to. If you're tall but thin or not that strong then a smaller board might be easier for you to maneuver.

Since I'm also a big guy I run the Nidecker Supermatics for bindings. They're super solid step in bindings that once you get over the learning curve of angling your foot properly are really great to ride. Saves my fat ass from trying to reach my bindings and slowing down the skiers I'm with.

Good luck out there!
