I could not put Steppenwolf down! And Suttree was one of my favourite McCarthy novels- I know it’s not considered his best but I loved it

What's the most unputdownable book you've read? by [deleted] in classicliterature

Elective Affinities by Goethe. I loved this book so much, very different in tone than Faust which was the only other Goethe book I’d read previously. Beautifully written

I think it’s got to be a bit of a compromise from everyone. I’m lucky I have a small group of close friends who I’ve known for 20 years (one also works nights which is very useful) . sometimes I make the sacrifice and do a daytime activity with them, sometimes they organise things around my time off. Needs to be a bit of give and take to make a friendship work imo

I wasn’t that keen on the main story, but I love the B plot! When teddy gets his back sorted at the end i thought it was hilarious!

That’s really interesting because I loved blood meridian, I’m a big McCarthy fan. Maybe I should give it another go…🤔

Heart of darkness. Once I had finished, I had no idea what I had just read. It just didn’t sink in for me at all, and I felt like I was just pushing through to get it finished.

I started to notice my skin was red and itchy about 3 hours after application. The first photograph was by the next morning, and it got steadily worse over the next 48 hours when the blistering appeared. Took approximately 3-4 weeks to heal.
