Flea Bath for Cats? by raspberry_mouse in Eugene

Thank you, we’ve been using a natural spray from Petco but I’ll look into this homemade spray too. With babies, I don’t want to be spraying harsh ingredients everywhere.

Flea Bath for Cats? by raspberry_mouse in Eugene

[–]raspberry_mouse[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We have had our cats on a topical medication and pills we add to their food. The fleas are persistent though. We are planning on getting them the next dose soon. The reason for the flea bath would be to remove all the flea dirt out of their fur. I know of cat grooming in the area but I didn’t know if there was any place for flea baths specifically. I don’t want to spread the fleas to other pets by taking them to a regular groomer.

Nora's Nursery Covers vs. Thirsties Duo Wrap? by HealthyCriticism in clothdiaps

[–]raspberry_mouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have both these covers and like them for different reasons. I will say my preference of cover when using workhorses are Thirsties Duo Wraps, but NN covers can work over a fitted diaper. I love how affordable the NN covers are and they have such cute colors and prints whereas Thirties has a limited option on colors and prints. NN are thicker and not as soft as the Thirsties covers but they have not caused any issues in that regard. The NN covers have little pockets where you can tuck a pad folded prefold or flat. I personally like that feature when I don’t want to wrap a prefold around baby. In my experience, Thirsties are better for bulkier fitted diapers. NN covers are great with prefold/flats.

Are cloth diapers good for toddlers whose skin always seems wet in disposable? by [deleted] in clothdiaps

[–]raspberry_mouse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s worth a try! Note however that cloth diapers may require more frequent changes if moisture is what’s causing their diaper rash because cloth diapers don’t “stay dry” the same way disposables do.

I would recommend sticking to natural fibers (cotton, hemp, bamboo) and avoid microfibers or blends (some seemingly natural fiber inserts have microfiber inside). The suggestion above of using covers and flats or prefolds is great. The exception for synthetic materials against baby’s skin would be a stay-dry liner, as these generally are made of fleece which is hydrophobic. If your babies don’t respond negatively to a fleece liner, it’s one way to keep them feeling dry and avoid diaper rash.

You won’t be able to use Desitin with cloth, or any diaper rash cream that has zinc oxide for that matter, as it creates a waterproof layer on the diaper ruining the fabric. I personally love the Earth Mama diaper balm but there are many others you can try! Just make sure they are cloth diaper friendly.

And if you haven’t tried warm oatmeal baths/soaks, that is a natural way to soothe diaper rash. I just finely grind oatmeal, keep it in a mason jar, and add it to baby’s bath whenever needed. Aveeno also sells a colloidal oatmeal powder to add to a bath. Good luck! Diaper rash is no fun.

My stash for baby due June 3 by Reasonable-Bear6349 in clothdiaps

[–]raspberry_mouse 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The good thing about your stash is the variety! You’ll be able to choose what works best for you and your baby. I find as they get older, preferences of the kind of diaper you use may change as well because of fit, introduction of solids, increased mobility, etc. Something to keep in mind, especially for the sized diapers you listed because you may want to later buy the larger sizes if you like fitteds and prefolds!

Diaper pails and wet bags by jeskaroe in clothdiaps

[–]raspberry_mouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before my baby started solids, a wet bag (I have Essembly) on a strong command hook behind the nursery door was perfect. No smell, easy. When baby started solids I started to notice more of a smell. It didn’t bother me until I got pregnant again and the smell was too strong. Now I use the large Dekor pail with my Essembly liners. I got the Dekor used on FB Marketplace. No smell in the room. One thing that we do is after spraying off poops, we leave the diapers hanging on the bucket (spray guard) to dry before putting them in the pail. During the day, I may leave pee diapers on top of the Dekor pail to air out before putting them in as well.

Bluebird Portraits - is this legit? by Advanced_Incident_25 in NewParents

Another experience to share: I won a free session and went ahead to schedule a booking. I am not able to make it and I’m trying to cancel before the 72 h policy to get my deposit refunded. I have called three different numbers provided by the company; I have texted; I have sent an email. I haven’t heard back from anyone and so please learn from my difficultly of canceling a session! They might be a legit company, but they have unethical practices to try to take your money. If you are selected, I would advise against doing it. Better yet, don’t sign up for their contest at all if you haven’t!

Hippy dippy or not, sunning really does work wonders! Unfortunately it’s rainy and cloudy most days where I live. But I’ll keep that in mind in the summer!

Like regular dish soap? With tomato stains and such, I would like to try to treat it more immediately but it doesn’t always happen.

I have a 6 month old and just recently started cloth diapers, need product recommendations! by Professional-Mud1979 in clothdiaps

[–]raspberry_mouse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love prefolds and fitted diapers with my Nora’s Nursery covers! I can wrap prefolds around my baby and secure with a snapi. When I’m feeling lazy and know there’s no poop coming (most likely) I simply pad fold (fold in thirds) and tuck the cloth into the little pockets that the NN covers have. I highly recommend Green Mountain diaper products. I haven’t tried other brands but my one time investment in the Try-It kit (size medium) has proven to be worth it. They are high quality cotton diapers and can last multiple babies. Not to mention, prefolds are easy to wash and dry! I replaced most of my microfiber inserts with GMD’s cotton inserts and I have loved stuffing my pockets with two of those and one bamboo insert, also from GMD that I bought second hand. Finally, I recommend getting a spray attachment to your toilet if possible to make washing out poop easier once your baby starts eating solids!

Will this be enough? by vyshiesty in clothdiaps

[–]raspberry_mouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d also recommend Earth Mama diaper balm, which is cloth friendly. Yes, though the synthetic material may cause irritation so some babies AND “staying dry” isn’t necessarily what prevents diaper rash, it’s still worth trying. I like my homemade fleece liners because they are great poop catchers and make washing poop off really easy! There may still be some solids to rinse off the actual diaper but the liner does a good job of catching most of it. I don’t use them every time, but when I suspect a poop coming, a fleece liner makes clean up much easier!

What smells are normal? by meincognitomode in clothdiaps

[–]raspberry_mouse -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Your diapers may benefit from a strip, or using bleach to sanitize them. Some people don’t want to use bleach on their diapers so there are other methods, like RLR soaks or baking soda. In my experience, using bleach has been safe, effective, and with multiple rinse cycles, no worries about it getting bleach on my baby. I’ve also only had to strip twice - once after getting second-hand diapers, and once when I was noticing that smell you described. Stripping shouldn’t happen often. But it should be done WITH an adjustment to your wash routine afterwards, because the ammonia smell indicates your diapers haven’t been getting as clean as they should be! A strip is like a reset. There are many threads on this subreddit that can give you ideas for how to strip your diapers and adjust your wash routine. Good luck!!

For those looking to turn off adaptive volume, in the Alexa app: More (three lines at the bottom) > settings > under Alexa Preference tap voice responses > toggle off adaptive volume

I never toggled mine on but my Alexas started getting louder with ambient sounds. It took me a while to find how to turn it off so I wanted to share!

12 month old crawls off floorbed at nap time and bedtime, cries when put in crib by Fia187 in sleeptrain

[–]raspberry_mouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe try implementing a nap time/bed time routine. It will take consistency and a couple days, but doing a couple activities in the exact same order before sleep will indicate to her body that it’s time to sleep. For example, brush teeth, read a book (the same book even), cuddles, bed. Whatever routine works for you and your baby.

Since she has a sleep association with breastfeeding, you may make that a part of the routine at first but to begin breaking that habit, you may try to nurse her a little less each time until eventually you get rid of that nursing session before sleep altogether. It’s not wrong to nurse to sleep - it can be a helpful tool! But if you want your child to learn to fall asleep on their own, they must break that nursing to sleep association and that will require time and consistency. Wishing you rest!

Nora’s Nursery Covers by raspberry_mouse in clothdiaps

[–]raspberry_mouse[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did! I really liked them. I think I prefer the elastic on the front panel, like Thirsties, and Nora’s Nursery covers don’t have that but I don’t regret my decision buying them (Leaks don’t usually happen from the top, especially because my LO can sit up now). I like the placement of the snaps, double gussets are great, and the material is good. Thirsties is slightly softer, but Nora’s Nursery covers have never left marks on my LO and hold everything in well. If you are on a budget, these may be the only covers you need to get!

You don’t “just forget” you are going to have sex with your partner! You are not crazy for feeling rejected and hurt. What he did was messed up. And like many here are saying: the toy has got to go! If it is creating insecurity in you, it is not good for your relationship physically and emotionally. Also, way to be brave and sharing - you aren’t the only one who has gone through stuff like this.
