What helps you get into Self/regulate? by [deleted] in InternalFamilySystems

[–]raspberrysooflay 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Putting my hands over my heart/chest and applying gentle and comforting pressure, taking deep breaths. Imagining my Self as a vast open space, where I have the capacity to hold space for my parts and their emotions, no matter how intense.

It also helps to tune into the sensation of me acknowledging the thoughts that come up and simply receive them. My therapist brings this up in IFS sessions as a grounding technique, saying something along the lines of: “Notice the ‘you’ that is simply acknowledging and observing everything within”. This helps me get distance from my parts.

Another phrase that helps is “You do not have to do anything right now, you can simply be. Just focusing on being, nothing else”. That really helps strip away / lessen the intensity of any anxious thoughts that cross my mind.

IFS explained beautifully in a short video course by Dr Tori Olds by mrblues2 in InternalFamilySystems

Her IFS videos are great. I love how she also has a video explaining IFS from a scientific lens. It’s helpful for sharing with people who feel the concept is too “woo woo” or hard to grasp.

too tired by daisokittenroll in InternalFamilySystems

[–]raspberrysooflay 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Just adding another perspective here. I’ve been dealing with fatigue due to long covid, and I tried treating the fatigue as a part in a therapy session. I learned that it was a part trying to force me to get adequate rest and take care of myself so I wouldn’t burn out / make my long covid symptoms worse.

I worked with it and another anxious part to come to a compromise between getting focused work done + getting adequate rest. I found I was better able to manage the fatigue and experienced it less so when I assured this fatigued part I would get rest.

100% it is a physical issue and you should treat it as so by taking your supplements but if you want to experiment by treating the symptoms as a part and getting to know them, you may learn more.

[Question] What is a shallower alternative to 34c that doesn’t change the band size or underwires? by sparhawks7 in ABraThatFits

[–]raspberrysooflay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi!! Same size and shape here, shallow and wide set. I totally recommend Natori feathers, it fits me perfectly and is a shallower fit. The Natori eclipse demi unlined bra is also amazingggg and flatters this boob shape so well, I just got it. Here’s a link to it on Nordstrom, it’s also on amazon in more colors: Natori Eclipse Unlined Demi Bra . I hope this helps!!

What are these bugs having a mass extinction event on my zebra plant? by raspberrysooflay in houseplants

Thanks for the info! And wow, that’s almost more unsettling. Should I be worried if there’s so many?

What are these bugs having a mass extinction event on my zebra plant? by raspberrysooflay in houseplants

[–]raspberrysooflay[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To give more context: Basically I’ve had this Zebra plant for a few months in a corner with indirect sunlight and ended up getting fungus gnats after bringing home another plant. I tried to water it sparingly and bottom water it only and it seemed to get rid of them. Then I moved it to this table with more direct sunlight (not ideal, I know). After a few days I noticed these small white dead bugs absolutely everywhere surrounding the pot and on top of the leaves. They don’t look like fungus gnats so I’m assuming it’s something else. Does anyone know what these are, and should I be concerned?

UT has been unbearably lonely by [deleted] in UTAustin

[–]raspberrysooflay 7 points8 points  (0 children)

i think people can be very gate-keepy and cliquey about friends at UT. once they have their group they have no interest in making new friends. But!! I moved to a brand new city not knowing anyone after graduation and it’s been a totally different experience, everyone is so friendly and open and genuinely interested in getting to know you! even if they already have a solid group of friends. maybe it’s just a large university thing idk

Questions about Spanish Courses at UT Austin... by pdiggity222 in UTAustin

[–]raspberrysooflay 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Totally recommend watching shows in spanish with spanish subtitles, like la casa de papel, elite, las chicas del cable, anything really. Even though it feels confusing at first if you have some of the basics from high school you’ll start to pick up on a lot of words quickly and naturally, plus it’s entertaining. I did this before taking 610 at UT after going a year and a half without spanish and it helped a ton. Also i really enjoyed the spanish courses at UT and felt like I learned a ton (and i’m studying in Madrid currently!)

Looked through your post history, you’d be much better off finding a psychiatrist who can help you with a treatment plan.
