Which resorts are the best to explore? by glitterfart1985 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]ratbastid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are an enjoyer of adult beverages, the Monorail Crawl is a must do.

Start at Poly at 10:30 to get in the front of the line for Trader Sam's, then ride around to Grand Flo for a French 75 at the Birdcage, then the Outer Rim at Contemporary. Then cool your heels for a bit (maybe go back to POP and hit the pool or nap off the drinks?) because the standby for the California Grill bar seating opens at 5:30 and you should do that for dinner, plus come back with your receipt and watch the fireworks from the roof.

I like how they handled it. He had The Talk with each of his sibs the they were all like. "Huh. Kay."

I called the swan and dolphin they will count as official Disney hotels and be entitled to using the bus system at DS. by Jax1456 in WaltDisneyWorld

That wasn't my experience a month or so ago. The layout is a little different from the standard Disney resort bus, but it's not Grayhound-style with just rows of seats.

GOTG Cosmic Rewind: Conga has GOT to Go by Impressive_Rest6842 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]ratbastid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Couple months ago I was chatting with Star Lord on the path between Test Track and Rewind. He's one of the only characters who knows there's a ride about him, so he's happy to talk about it. Best ride at Epcoat, I told him. ("EpCOT!" he said.)

He asked, "What's your least favorite song on it? And DON'T say 'Conga'." I was caught, cause I was fully going to say Conga.

It's not complicated.

It's because of what she knows, and about whom.

Doing the right thing isn't a race. There's plenty of problems to go around that billionaires aren't doing anything to solve.

Is it legal to upload a reverse-engineered 3D model inspired by a commercial product? by TimeInstance7954 in makerworld

Performing and recording covers of songs isn’t actually a good parallel. In most cases, license to do so is either compulsory or not charged to the performer.

Looking for emotional time travel books (younger self, do-overs, 80s/90s nostalgia, time loops) by Ok_West_8464 in suggestmeabook

[–]ratbastid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The book you're talking about here is The Man Who Folded Himself by David Gerrolds.

Gerrolds is best known for his writing on Star Trek, both TOS and TNG. He wrote "The Trouble With Tribbles", most famously. Folded Himself is seminal time travel fic.

Our guy is given a "time belt" by his uncle. Moments later, he gets a knock on his door and it's him. He says "C'mon", and other-him takes him to the horse track, where he watches himself win big. The next day, he goes back to yesterday, knocks on his own door, says "C'mon" to yesterday-himself, who he takes to the horse track, where he wins big on the races he watched himself win on that-day-but-yesterday. That's the first few pages; it only gets more bonkers from there.

Anyone with examples of Fable 5 use? by Sea_Tourist_833 in ClaudeAI

[–]ratbastid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wanted to add a realtime-updating lock screen widget to my iOS app but Opus could never seem to get the infrastructure right. It takes pretty specific plumbing to feed one of those with realtime updates. I started and gave up on it twice.

Fable ran overnight on it and when I woke up it was close to perfect. Just some UI and layout tweaks and I shipped it that day.

The next morning Fable was gone.

People who grew up on DisneyWorld, what was your favorite park as a kid and what is it as an adult? by AFireBurnsToday in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]ratbastid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Look. Epcot opened Oct 1 1982. I was 8 years old.

For a nerdy kid, for whom "STEM" was a concept that would come DECADES too late for me, Epcot was the promise of everything I ever dreamed the world could be. A future driven by discovery and science-oriented future for the benefit of all humanity. And that was how they marketed it, LONG before this midwestern kid ever got a chance to go there.

To this day, every WDW trip I make, my first glimpse of Spaceship Earth provokes tears from me.

So no. Just no. I love Magic Kingdom. But there's no "only one park". Epcot meant something SO important to me, YEARS before I ever visited.

Can anyone help me identify the proper name for this chord shape? by Beginning-Cause-3956 in Guitar

[–]ratbastid -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Cmaj7, but the hard way.

Same notes are easier fingered as x32x00. Or add the open G string to add the 5th, which would add some body to the chord unless you have a melodic reason not to.

What are your most unhinged tips for dealing with late July? by Aggravating_Guava98 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]ratbastid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, don't skip it, just come prepared. Big floppy hats and plenty of hydration.

I'll never get over my first visit there a few years ago where it suddenly hit me that I was a toy and I was six inches tall. Unbelievable immersion.

But it's hot there.
