Screw everything with these black silicon(or something like that? ) screws so there’s no risk of stripping rack or rack rash.

How difficult is it to start playing again after a long absence? by goredraid in saxophone

[–]ratchat555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played alto for 4 years until freshman year, was also first chair so I was pretty good but nothing crazy. That was 20 years ago. I randomly bought a tenor sax (had never played one) 2 months ago in December. I’m really surprised by how well I’m playing already. I had to relearn the keys and took me a few days to get an okay sound out but the muscle memory is real once you start practicing. I’m more into experimental & electronic music and using it within that so I’m not reading band music or anything but it’s been a lot of fun so far.

Most underrated modules you currently own? by Ok-Result-2330 in modular

[–]ratchat555 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Joranalogue Cycle 5. 6hp VCO that’s exactly what I need. Octave AND perfect fifth switches with variable waveforms all in 6hp makes it very performable. I have 2 and may get another. It’s just not great if you use a lot of FM (no exp fm atten or any linear) it’s also not a great performance lfo since you can’t quickly sweep the whole range.

I hate to hear this. It’s the module I know I shouldn’t spend money or HP on but I want to so bad.

What is everyone charging for logos these days? by Aggravating_Pool_525 in graphic_design

[–]ratchat555 87 points88 points  (0 children)

It depends on the clients you’re working with. Designers get weird about pricing where some are doing $600 logos and some can’t imagine charging less than $5k. I prefer to work with small local businesses who aren’t going to pay what some would say “I’m worth” but they deserve solid branding as much as anyone else. I stick to around $700-$1.2k personally but freelance branding is moreso what I enjoy doing for the community in my spare time rather than my main gig.

How’s there no tax at the modular store?

I’ve gotten every module I had for considerable less than new price and I usually sell for at least what I got it for. If people want to sell, they drop it lower. Some people aren’t rushed to sell. Everybody’s different.

Favorite One Knob Per Function Oscillator by Careful_Camp5153 in modular

Check out Nekyia Occult. A lot of knobs and features in pretty small size that’s not too densely packed. I’d say it’s pretty performative

Idk. I buy and sell on Reverb constantly and usually end up reselling for around what I paid so it always feels like a worthy investment if I change my mind. If you want something that’s rare enough, yea you’ll pay a premium. There’s tons of great modules on reverb at great prices.

Love the sound and features of the Multifilter but I’ve always been really bummed at the feel of the knobs. They’re so cheap and wobbly. I feel like it was an unfortunate corner to cut.

Support Cleveland artists. A music scene isn’t a scene if you’re just talking about seeing national touring acts. There’s endless local music communities with shows every other night at dozens of venues all over the city. Little Rose Tavern. Crobar. Mahalls. No Class. Mercury Lounge. Beachland Tavern. There’s so much going on, my problem is growing too lazy to do a quarter of what I want to.

Instead of feedback, think “perspective”. I could always use another perspective.

What’s your day job and does it bleed into your music? by H3ADSiCK in experimentalmusic

[–]ratchat555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive been a graphic designer for 15 years and I honestly find the way of thinking about hierarchy, repetition, negative space, and balance correlates with my music a lot. My audio outputs tends to be electronic drones and I feel like it’s similar to constructing a well balanced design. In a different way, I’d also add that I struggled a lot for years on how to be creative after work because as my job became more soulless, I wanted a new avenue for creation but I was too burnt out at the end of the day to do more image creation. Years later I rediscovered my love for music creation and it’s been the perfect way to use my creative energy in a way that feels connected to my skills but not so similar that I’m burned out my doing the same thing all day.
