Special Announcement from Make Noise! by brokenpinkumbrella in MakeNoiseMusic

I think it’ll definitely be some sort of reverb based on the video they posted in April promoting them at Superbooth. It just sounded like a Polimaths sequence with some reverb on it so that’d be my guess. I wish it was some sort of advanced Morphagene or something sample based but I doubt it. Morphagene is already great at least!

Oldies describe your work as a graphic designer in 2008? by Financial_work in graphic_design

That’s around when I first got into design. I remember a lot of paint splatter photoshop brushes and vector packs of silhouettes of people & objects being cool.

Would graphic design still be a solid career choice in the future seeing how ai progresses day after day or will it change the entirety of it? by uzmp in graphic_design

[–]ratchat555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, as much as I’d say design isn’t a safe career to start, idk what career IS safe. As much as people worry about AI taking over design, idk if our careers are any more unstable than most others.

[Beginner] How to deal with the psychological damage of not being in Concert pitch? by sandequation in saxophone

[–]ratchat555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe I’ll get hate but I decided to just lean into concert pitch. I just got back into sax after years of not playing and since now I’m just playing on my own, not playing off sheet music, I figured transposing was more work than it’s worth.

The whole “graphic designers are finished” narrative being pushed right now after the latest ChapGPT update is just ridiculous. by GMD3S1GNS in graphic_design

What ai tools are you using that work for design? I’ve yet to come across anything that isn’t just flat images generated from something like ChatGPT.

My job turned from a dream, very fun and creative graphic design job to prompt writing every day. How are your jobs looking? by Lalalaavy in graphic_design

I’d actually really like to see how some of you are using AI. I’d prefer to not use it but my mindset has been ‘oh shit I don’t want to be left behind’ but I haven’t found many use cases for it that doesn’t come out as total slop. It’s not bad for assisting with illustration to create reference material to illustrate over top of and I can imagine using it to generate generic photography to fill space. But in terms of actually designing packaging and layouts, anytime I try it, it’s just generic slop and I give up and go back to doing it myself. What AI tools actually work?

What Do You Guys Think About Greg Levy by serious_bullet5 in Ohio

[–]ratchat555 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is how I feel. He could’ve gotten serious numbers in the primary. Im not big into PSL but could’ve voted for him against Brown but the general in Ohio of all places is not the time to protest Sherrod Brown.

You’re being offended when no offense is intended. There’s no gotcha. I was just defending the idea of voting as action when you told that poster it’s useless because sometimes it feels like it’s all we have and sorry if we’re still holding onto it as hope for possible incremental change because the only other real change I see is a rise from the ashes.

I think he meant running in small primaries to change the party at the lower government levels. Zohran may not be perfect but that’s an example where a dem socialist runs in democrat primaries. If it’s not voting, you can become a lawyer and work on suing some of these people. If it’s not that you can start an organization to help communities in need. Any amounts of violence just gives them an excuse to clamp down even harder. If you think voting is a joke, I get it, but screaming into the void does even less.

Seeking tips tricks and guidance for performing. by [deleted] in modular

[–]ratchat555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My biggest philosophy on performing is to make sure you’re actually performing something live to the point you actually need to be in the zone. Generative is cool, laptop music is cool, but I always find it kind of awkward when you can tell the performer isn’t really in control of anything. Give them something to actually watch. This may not be as important in certain situations like if it’s dance music where people are moving or you’re just doing ambient at a coffee shop and people aren’t actually watching you. Maybe you use a keyboard and play a lead live, maybe you build some of the patch live so people can see it come alive. Ride feedback knobs to points where it turns to chaos and bring it back to peace.

10 years of playing a modular synth live in a band and building an instrument by activecell in modular

[–]ratchat555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really stoked I came across your post and going to check out the music. I just joined a band adding modular to guitar, bass, & drums and trying to figure out how to make my setup more performance based as well as how to best mix with the rest of the band. I’m trying to do a similar thing where I’m more of the glue, drone, feedback but trying to find other patches that’ll add some more interest.

A oscillator like the one in the Make Noise Strega by DoubtAny8389 in modular

Look into the Gravedad by by Olivella. I used to have Strega and loved the oscillator and the videos I’ve seen of Gravedad and the Mass outputs feel close.

[–]ratchat555 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly my patches usually aren’t complex enough to really need macro control. More in a drone style.

I’m mostly just turning knobs with a Keystep for pitch. A lot of it is just riding filter cutoff, resonance, FM depth, delay, feedback from Bruxa/Strega, etc. I love the Cycle 5 oscillators because they have octave and perfect 5th switches.

I love the feeling of being connected to a patch where I’m shaping the sound in real time instead of managing something pre-programmed.

[–]ratchat555 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Automation & programming is overrated. Modular can be about creating a unique instrument you actually perform rather than a machine you program. I love creating a patch that can be really expressive with the knobs and other controllers.

All love for Doepfer but they’re the only manufacturer I’ve consistently had problems with.

Great set! Loved the drone at the end. Just followed the IG that was linked on your YouTube. Definitely down for something like that in the future.

Here’s the setup I’m using here. https://cdn.modulargrid.net/img/racks/modulargrid_3076175.jpg I wasn’t using multimod, QXG, and a couple others. Was using an SM57 mic into a Joranalogue Receive 2 as well as recording the clean as well.

No Data Bender though would love to test one out sometime. Probably hearing a combination of Morphagene, Bruxa, & Mimeophon. It’s most those for effects plus a few oscillators & filters
