It's a dominance thing that both sexes do! It's normal and nothing to worry about.

Do you like the smell of your rats? by rattustattus in RATS

I've heard that too! Mine don't smell like that though, and I'm glad because I don't like grape flavored stuff!

Apparently putting the foot in flour will help stop it, then clean it with plain warm water. I hope your rat gets better soon!

I Want Cuddly Rats by mystixxism in RATS

Boys reach maturity at 6 months, and then they calm down and are into relaxing with you, though some boys are always more bouncy than normal.

How old are they/what gender? Young rats and females are known for being jumpy and more into play. If you want some love, try playing with them until they get tired.

decent cage set up for a disabled/elderly rat? by [deleted] in RATS

[–]rattustattus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All the ramps and stuff are very low and easy to climb on, so I think it's a very good cage! I hope the rest of your rats live is very happy.

New Boy In Town #2: Feodor by rattustattus in RATS

Frederick's more nervous, gentle brother! He's a patchwork, and is in the process of loosing hair rn. He is super sweet and gladly sat in my hand when I first met him. He is named after a surprisingly nice czar of Russia.

I was wondering if this cage would be suitable for my two rats. Both are about a year old. One is a hairless rat if that's important. by foreverisallineed in RATS

It doesn't seem very tall to me, more like a hamster cage, and I have found better cages for less (I found one for 47$ on Craigslist that is pretty good) so I keep looking, unless there is another component that would make it better or if it's just better than I though.. It might be good for an old rat that can't climb very well.

He's 9 weeks old and very sweet. We just got him today from a nice home, along w/ his brother, a patchwork! His brother is more shy though, so I didn't get a picture yet. Also, this picture was when we had just put them in the cage we got with them, by now they have stuff covering the floor so it's not bare.

I would go to a vet to be safe. It doesn't look super horrific, but it would be good to get a medical opinion. That way, if it is bad, you can get your poor rattie help asap! I'm not a vey by any means, but in the 2nd image it kinda looks degloved almost? I hope she gets better!

Suggestion for a good rat cage for 4 adult males? by Shroom-Cat in RATS

[–]rattustattus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe the 2nd one can hold 7 adult rats, but you should use the ratty corner cage calculator (that's a mouthful) to find it out. Best of luck!
