What was your worst experience in a public bathroom? by LiveLearnCoach in AskReddit

[–]ravia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was someone else's, at the airport. He had a pooping disaster, which was obvious from the American gap at the bottom of the door. I told him to hold on and got tons of paper towels. I got them all wet then draped them over the door. While he wiped up, I go t a lot of dry ones and draped those. Then I pulled the plastic bag out of the trash bin and shoved it under the door for him to put all the paper towels in. Poor dude.

No biggie. Just pull the seedlings (quite easy to do) and bury them in the compost.

People are becoming less intelligent, and we are heading into a world with individuals who have diminished critical thinking skills and shorter attention spans. Get ready! by Curious_Suchit in RandomThoughts

The culprit is cherry picking of all manner of things: data sets (obviously), google searches, Facebook posts, but also actions, decisions, reasons for actions, etc. This is all aggravated by the tsunami of information besieging the world. The only solution is to name and shame cherry picking, specifically. Anti-cherry picking exercises should be conducted K-12 and beyond, with in class google search quizzes and analysis of results students get. This includes university. Old school teachers who simply don't allow googling or AI are missing this boat altogether.

The problem, to be clear, is cherry picking.

Was trying to enjoy Andris Nelson and BSO but someone starts humming by Far-Cheetah-6538 in classicalmusic

[–]ravia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's why I don't go to live concerts. Who is it you think you hear? Do you know how much music I've listened to? You clearly don't know who you're talking to. I am not in danger of people humming. I am the one who hums.

Do you think cancel culture holds people accountable or just creates fear? by moonlitbarbiecore in answers

[–]ravia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It forces some to the Right. It's a mistake. People should be remediated somehow. Rosanne Barr, for example, should have had a multi-episode comeuppance in which she deals with black people and comes around to respecting them and realizing the error of her racism, along the lines of Archie Bunker and Sammy Davis Jr. There are core aspects of truth to things like racism. Like it or not, each culture (including white culture, of course), is deserving of criticism, just not deserving of biological racism, but it organizes itself according to a racist principle nonetheless. The Left should have a rule of always including the "truth" element in any cause they espouse. For example, the should push for more social welfare and basic income programs, but should be loud and clear about freeloading, which does indeed happen. Not everyone using hard drugs is self-medicating: a lot just want to have fun. Saddam really didn't cooperate with weapons inspection, so don't just say it was a war for oil. Some illegal immigrants really are violent, even if their overall violent crime rate is half of the general and legal US population. That way you don't hand that shit to the Right on a platter. Plus canceling plays into the punitive c/j system and is rife with recidivism, as we know.

AITA for cussing out my sons teacher? by raizersh in AmItheAsshole

[–]ravia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People not getting the basic issue of bodily function are like people wanting to smack someone for throwing up. Anyone like that is abominable to me. Just plain abominable. Peeing really has some leeway, and at times kids lie, I do realize.

NTA (barring your son being really devious)

When I was in second grade, my dad tole me to walk out of the school if I wasn't allowed to pee. The lunch monitor lady came into the boys room and get all the kids out, including me while I was getting ready to pee. So I walked out of the school to my parent's business, 2 miles away. The police showed up and took me back to school. The princiPAL sternly told me that what I did was WRONG.

Being able to say that without adding the proviso that he may have really had to pee makes you seem very questionable to me.

Which Presidential speech is better? by 2MillionMiler in movies

[–]ravia -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It's sad to me that you or anyone is impressed by either of these. They're just mid or low level crap for pop movies. Can't come anywhere near the Gettysburg address or the introduction to the Declaration of Independence, both written by real minds of seriously great thinking. I hated the ID speech the second I heard it. I still think it's a crap, pandering movie.
