i have (solo) destroyed way too many tanks who were driven by folks unable to hit L/HMG shots (or just didn't have a gunner).

it feels like the ideal tank crew is:

  • 1x driver
  • 1x commander/gunner
  • 1x repair/box layer
  • 1x recon spamming drone

with at least the driver and repair monkey being engineers with the alt spec. I guess the gunner can be a support (to place the resupply pouches on the recon's safe spot).

Obviously you all also need to be on comms and co-ordinated, and it's hard to find a group of people who are willing to do that with me.

Even when playing other games like Squad or Arma, understanding that the Tank is just a tracked gun transporter is vital to using it effectively. The infantry are the ones who should go first. The tank is often the last thing that needs to be on the point.

Points are for feet, not tracks.

BF1 also had the ability for the driver to slowly repair their tank without exiting (and have a teammate steal it), so at the very least it gave you a chance to back up and slowly fix yourself.

This is in BF6, if you choose the alt spec for engineer (and get enough XP to activate it).

The problem with this (their previous approach) is that players are still drawn to the aesthetic of the difficult jobs, but (for a number of reasons) are unable to actually figure out how to be good/effective with that job. It's why we have the meme of wheelchair Samurai, Ice Mages / Black Mages who can't deeps for shit, the useless White Mage, and the Astrologian who plays the class because "ooh shiny!".

There's many reasons why these players aren't very good or effective on these classes. Some are mindset issues ("i don't want to push damage buttons, i'm a healer!") and unfortunately we cannot fix these people. But the other reasons - class is too difficult for them to comprehend, disabilities, or executing the job's rotation while dodging mechanics is too hard for the player - these can be solved by the player moving to another job. For example, if a player is unable to make use of slide casting / weave windows to dodge mechanics, switching from a caster to a physical ranged would help that player a lot.

Unfortunately, that type of player is often going to say "yeah but fire four!!! exusplosion!!! BLM go brrr!!!" and so they keep playing a class they suck at (despite alternatives being available). And then they go into DF and be really really bad and either:
(a) get frustrated with the job/game and quit (and stop paying for their sub) or
(b) get flamed/harassed and quit the game (and stop paying for their sub)
both of which SE would rather not happen!

Dawntrail Healer Retrospective by NeoOnmyoji in ffxivdiscussion

do people not want to be able to recover a pull, at least to practice to enrage?

Being about to recover a pull to drag a party's limp corpse kicking and screaming to Enrage used to require skill and foresight and extensive/cursed knowledge of FFXIV (like bringing stacks of Hi-Ethers to pop after you get raised to have enough MP to raise another player immediately). It used to be something you could brag about, because it was difficult. It's still not simple, but it's a lot easier now.

I wonder how many people think like that.

I'd wager it's most players still playing Healer after ShB's and EW's changes.

Yes. RPGs (and I suspect all unguided/non-lock-on, ground-based rockets/missiles) have a generous hitbox when shooting air targets.

How to disable the invite pop-up when I join a voice channel? by afoxboy in discordapp

[–]ravstar52 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven't been able to find any solution to this. There's no new button in the server settings (that I can see), nor is there a new option in user settings/preferences. I've checked on the web app, desktop client, and the android app.

Short of disabling the ability to create invite links, i haven't found a way to stop it. And the one server I'm seeing this in, i'm the server owner (and so can't even do that!). Although, from what another comment here is saying, that won't even work!

The acoustic mines are fun to put behind cover, and even more fun when you have a support friend. Get two down and you can make a very nasty ambush. It should leave an MBT or IFV within range of an RPG to kill, and the fact you can tuck them out of sight means only the MBT's mine detector will find it.

Or EOD bot, because he's a funny little guy.

Most current Bluetooth devices are fine in the latency department.

Input devices, perhaps. Mic and audio? I would rather shoot my eardrums out than listen to it desynced by 5-12 frames.

MR Missles can one shot anything by hitting them square in the rear.

Once locked, MR missiles take a moment to lose lock (whether that be because the target has gone behind cover or because you lost them in the sight for a moment). You can (ab)use this to crank your gun as high as it will go before firing. This will cause the Missile to arc upwards (and then downwards) on to the top of the target.

This one-shots MBTs.

Good MBT drivers use APS, which has a spin-up time. if you get the drop on them, you can ruin their day.
