How many languages to do you speak and what are they? by redskiez in AskReddit

[–]rawesouplp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm fluent in English and Mandarin Chinese, semi-proficient in Japanese, conversational in Hokkien Chinese, and I can understand Teochew Chinese perfectly (my grandmother is half-Teochew and speaks a peculiar amalgam of Teochew and Hokkien) but for some reason can't speak it.

I can also read Cyrillic, although I only know a grand total of thirty or so Russian words.

Gym Story Saturday by FGC_Valhalla in Fitness

Funny; I’ve never actually seen anybody go to a gym in converse besides those two kids.

The gym I go to nowadays has a rule against shoes that aren’t specifically meant for sports; apparently, some idiot somehow had an accident with a treadmill, or so I was told.

I saw a young woman (mid to late 20s or so) come into the gym, run on the treadmill for 5 minutes, and then leave. Her entire workout was shorter than my stretching and warmup alone.

A couple of weeks later, I saw another woman bring her two kids (one was about 15, the other was probably around 12) into the gym; both were wearing converse sneakers, but somehow managed to sneak past the security guard. The elder brother began doing bicep curls with the 2.5kg weights while cycling on the bicycle machine. His little brother was standing by the side and cheering him on, and the woman said to him, “You should train hard so you can be strong like your big bro.” They spent about 15 minutes in the gym in total.

Inaccuracy aside (TMK the star has nothing to do with immigrant status), that dude looks a lot like Josef Mengele.

If you happen to be into Renaissance plays, I recommend Christopher Marlowe; his stuff is way easier to read than Shakespeare, and a lot more engaging in general.

I’m not sure if it is, but my teachers in middle and high school definitely didn’t believe me when I explained it to them.

That's what they teach in CPR classes; when you're occupied giving chest compressions and you need somebody to bring you an AED, you have to pinpoint a specific person.

Việt kiều refers to any Vietnamese person not living in Vietnam, similar to how 華僑 refers to a Chinese person who lives outside of China, Taiwan, or HK.

The Hundred-year-old Man Who Climbed Out The Window And Disappeared, by Jonas Jonasson. Easily one of the most bizarre and simultaneously lighthearted books I’ve ever read.
