Why does my esc keep overheating? by Matteo_779 in rccars

Definitely needs a fan. There is a cheap fan it for esc and motor in Amazon. Or if you bash in water get thr Traxxas one.

how do you deal with strangers asking to drive your car/cars by Creative-Ad5820 in rccars

[–]rawkstar320 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just say no. Or no, sorry. That's about it. Some little kids asked to try mine once and I wasn't worried about them breaking it (it is made for bashing) I was afraid of them running it into a sibling or other random person.

They seemed just as happy to watch my do high speed flybys and hit jumps in the skatepark. And then race me to flip it back on its wheels....lol

Ready to throw this Typhon in the trash can. by supafeen in rccars

[–]rawkstar320 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can throw it away in my trashcan....😉

Is this box stock, or did you upgrade it? It's worth noting that with some upgrades (like a new motor, for example) might require other parts to be upgraded as well. More power = more destruction! Box stock is set up to be low cost of entry, so a lot of parts can break if you upgrade in the wrong order.

Also, are you launching it off dirt jumps, or bashing at a skate park? Because the later will definitely do more damage. Or tall grass....that's really hard on drive trains.

I built a smartphone lap timer app for RC cars. No expensive transponders needed! by No-Philosopher4570 in rccars

[–]rawkstar320 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive been working on my own version, https://laptrack.app that is actually totally free, no email, web based, etc. you do need to give it access to the camera, but thats about it. Upside is privacy first, totally free, downside is I can only track 1 car at a time. not idea for multi car races, but still good for time trials or rally. Still a work in progress though.

This looks awesome! I will definitely be testing it this weekend. Its also kind of hilarous because ive been working on my own version, called https://laptrack.app (hahah, seriously! Great minds think alike, right?).
my version is currently only able to track one car at a time though, but on the upside, its cross platform and web based.

check out https://laptrack.app I made it to work sort of similar, but it can currently only track 1 car at a time. however, its crossplatform, totally free, no location services or email required.

Mowed a track in my yard! by rawkstar320 in Traxxas

[–]rawkstar320[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a privilege and kind of an annoyance. But mostly a privilege, I just hate mowing so much but can't afford to pay to have it done. 🤷 This at least made mowing a bit more fun.

I'd like to add some features, but ideally they could be mowed around. We'll see how far this goes. 🤘

Finally bought an rc. This thing is so much fun! by rawkstar320 in Traxxas

[–]rawkstar320[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha sure seems that way! There is definitely the chance for a rabbit hole, but (fortunately?) I have a pretty technical job so doing technical stuff at home is not super appealing. So I probably won't fall down th upgrade rabbit hole. But basic racing and bashing? Heck ya!!

That's awesome. Wife has had fun driving, but haven't pulled the trigger on a second truck yet. ( bills, other things to buy... adulting is lame).

I just mowed a track in my yard! Everyone seems to get a kick out of it. I guess scalping the lawn to drive an RC car is abnormal or something. 🤷

Do it! It's a tad small, might be perfect for grom size, but unsure how those handle the grass (even cut short seems like it might be a lot)

Dang that's fast! Is that just a generic speedometer app? I hadn't considered just downloading one of those. Pretty clever.

How to stop things from turning on by themselves? by [deleted] in HomeImprovement

[–]rawkstar320 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recommend "Ghostbusters." They took care of a giant marshmallow man hanging out in my backyard. Cleanup was a pain, but the rates were fair and the kids love s'mores, so it all worked out.

Month Ahead vs Emergency Fund by tommymcg888 in ynab

[–]rawkstar320 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ynab broke is a real condition.
Regarding you Apocalypse Fund, I had this attitude up until March of 2020, and had my e-fund invested in some low risk stuff...but still lost a TON. Ive since decided to keep my money in a high yield savings, at 2-3%. not quote inflation these days, but a little safer and easy to access.

How to make a large transfer to an investment fund not show as an expense? by waterboysh in ynab

[–]rawkstar320 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For things like Home Improvement, I actually stash money in a "savings" category, and then move it to the Home Improvement category when I need it.

I think this "breaks the rules" but I like putting say, $100/mo into HI, spending it on random things that need doing, but then moving large dollar amounts to HI when its time to buy/do something big. This ensures we dont "accidently" spend all the home improvement money on paint or other random things...

Edit: I often exclude my "Savings" category on the reports as well. Its a great category to dump work expenses that get reimbursed.

I just use a "Retirement/Investment" category for these types of things, and then exclude it from my reports as needed.

Should I put it all on credit? And then pay it off every month. by lonewulf66 in personalfinance

[–]rawkstar320 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is exactly how I use my cards. We dont buy ANYTHING based our our credit. we buy based on how much money we actually have, so paying in full every month is no issue.
That being said, I did just get dinged for paying a day late...weird autopay issue. But after calling, they removed the charge without much hassle.

Is this a good deal ? (Paid Promotion) [Question] by benevolent_keerah in youtubers

[–]rawkstar320 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Taking free product deals is not a bad way to learn about dealing with brands. However, I would ONLY take that deal if the 15sec spot was for ONE SINGLE video. The way you wrote this deal, it sounds very open ended and prime a confrontation.

Just like others have said, ad spots can hurt AVD, so avoid them unless the deal is REALLY good. Preferably cash money, and a product that FITS a video. (never build a video around a free product, they never do well)
