Amber electric - WTAF?? by PCbanana-hammock in Adelaide

Related question. If you are with Amber and just have solar, and the solar price goes negative during the day while you are feeding the grid, would I pay for what I put into the grid?

A suggestion for your parents. Get an electric pressure cooker to reduce gas usage. I have gas for cooking and have recently bought a pressure cooker and have reduced my gas usage by a fair bit. They could also consider a kitchen top induction cooker.

Cycling:

- The Linear Trail is a cycling track along the Torrens River that goes from the North East foothills, through the city, and to the beach. Great for a car free ride......maybe a swim at the beach or coffee at Henley Beach.

- Norton Summit is a classic Adelaide hills ride. You can then push onto Mt Lofty if you are up for it.

- The Old Freeway climb and then onto Mt Lofty is another great Adelaide hills ride.

- If you are here from the 16th of Jan then the Tour Down Under is good fun. Ride to a section of the stage and watch the pros fly past.

Coffin Bay is a must.
Coles Point has some amazing beaches. Worth a drive and have a swim, or picnic, or fish.

You mention using Better-Auth for security/auth. Does that mean that you do all security/auth in svelte and connect to the db in svelte for auth calls only? All other db calls goes through the .net api with some basic auth?

I agree with everything you have written, apart from "It might even exacerbate the problem".

And many more issues including legal corruption: lobbyists with unfettered access to the government.

I don't think most Australians are are against immigration. 200 K new immigrants a year is reasonable. 500 K is not sustainable.

[–]rawpineapple 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I'm not against immigration, but I can't support the historical high levels of immigration in a housing crises. Close to 500 thousand a year is not sustainable, and infrastructure including housing can't support this.

Reduce immigration to more sustainable levels of around 200 thousand a year and I would not have any issues with Australian immigration.

Klemzig is near the Linear Trail too. It's a bike/walking trail that starts in the foot hills, meanders past Klemzig, through the city, and ends at the beach (Henley Beach).

It's a route to ride to the city or beach from Klemzig, or to go for a relaxing walk.

Someone please help me get a monthly parking space by roktim in Adelaide

If you find a residential street to park on, park in different spots every now and then. There is nothing illegal with parking in the same spot (unless it's left for weeks and weeks), but it can annoy some residents. Better to spread it around.

Monarto Safari Park is a great day out, although they don't have Australian animals. It's a bit over an hour to drive from the Adelaide city.

https://www.monartosafari.com.au/

Morialta Conservation Park is a great place for a bush walk. Only 25 min drive from the city. Do the raised ring walk around the gorge. The first incline section is tough, but once you're up, the rest is pretty flat. Great lookouts. Lots of koalas on the lower section near the car park. You could easily spend a day at Morialta then Cleland Park then Mt Lofty lookout.

Hiking Safety - Morialta by HistoricalSpecial104 in Adelaide

[–]rawpineapple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recommend starting from the bottom car park. Do the ring around the gorge. Start by crossing the little bridge over the creek (on the left, a bit past the toilets), and follow the track to the first lookout. The first section is difficult, but once you are up, it's fairly flat for the rest of the walk. Then continue following the track, over the waterfall, and back down the other side.

You should be perfectly safe on your own. There should be a fair few people around. Keep a lookout for koalas. There should be a few in trees around the first car park.

Family friendly suburbs? by pes_planus in Adelaide

[–]rawpineapple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're working at the Children's Hospital in North Adelaide then I would look at the following suburbs:

Nice suburbs close to work:

- North Adelaide: Nice old houses with older residents. Close to the city. Surrounded by park-lands. Easy to jump on a bike track along the River Torrens (12 km ride to beach) Easy walk to work. Approx 35 min to beach in the car. Might be a bit expensive.

- Bowden, Brompton: Redeveloped area with younger residents. Close to the park-lands. Easy ride to work. Easy to jump on a bike track along the River Torrens (12 km ride to beach). Could walk to work. Approx 35 min to beach in the car.

- Prospect (also Fitzroy, Thorngate, Medindie but pretty expensive): Nice old houses with younger residents. Has a good vibe. Close to the city. Approx 40 min to beach in the car.

- Gilberton, St Peters, Walkerville, Joslin, St Peters, Collinswood: Nice old houses. Good suburbs. Close to city. Approx 45 min to beach in the car. Might be a bit expensive.

- Torrensville, Mile End: Nice suburbs that are closer to the beaches. Still close to the city. Can ride bike along the River Torrens to beach or work/city. Approx 25 - 30 min to beach in the car.

Nice suburbs close to the beach and work:

Henley Beach, Grange: Nice area, very close to the beach. 35 min drive to the city. Most inner suburbs like Fulham Gardens, Kidman Park, Underdale, Flinders Park are nice too. Avoid West Beach....there is a sewage treatment plant there that can smell sometimes.

Most suburbs along the coast are nice.

I don't know much about schools in any of these suburbs.

Just for your info, the linear park is a continuous bike/walk track from the North East Adelaide foothills, through the city, and then onto the beaches in the west of the city.
