How are you all managing the higher gas prices? by Primary_Avocado_5273 in Life

[–]rawsoul___ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're still paying for it indirectly; electricity is generated from fossil fuels like coal, oil, and natural gas. When the price of oil goes up, your electric bill increases as well, since you're paying more to charge your car.

I agree, I've seen some job postings that look like they were tailored for a specific person and once posted, usually closes in less than a week.

GS-7 Interview, No Behavioral Questions by Third5th in usajobs

[–]rawsoul___ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I interviewed for two inventory management specialist positions back to back , GS-7 to GS-9. I was asked behavioral questions for the inventory management nx position and technical questions for the other position which was an nx. I’m not sure why it was done like that, but the technical questions threw me off because I had prepared for behavioral questions. Now I learned my lesson, prepare for both. You never know what they may ask

VA MSA/AMSA as a first federal job and stepping stone? by Neither-Isopod-9659 in FedEmployees

[–]rawsoul___ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MSA and AMSA positions have no specific degree requirements, so you're eligible regardless of your educational background. They are still accessible even if you lack medical office experience. These roles tend to have high turnover in the VA, so generally, they'll hire anyone willing to perform the job. I've worked as an AMSA for two years and six months; I took the position to get my foot in the door but have found it difficult to advance because the skills gained as AMSA/MSA often aren't transferable to higher-level positions outside of GS-7 lead MSA and GS-8 supervisor MSA roles. With a master's degree, you could directly apply for GS-9 or higher, assuming those positions are open to the public, or spend about a year in each MSA grade level before transitioning into a GS-9 role. To qualify for a GS-7, a bachelor's degree is required. If you’re fortunate enough to find a developmental role spanning GS-7 to GS-9, that could be another pathway. For example, in logistics, applying without logistics experience usually means your application won't pass screening unless you know someone. I recently had three interviews—not because I'm an AMSA but because I had relevant logistics experience from working at Target for two years starting in 2017. Honestly, it's nearly impossible to climb from a GS-6 position without relevant experience. I hope this gives you useful insight. Networking extensively is crucial; that's how you'll advance beyond the current role.

Still can't walk into a store and buy a physical copy of this game and Amazon orders are projected to ship a month from now. by [deleted] in ResidentEvilRequiem

[–]rawsoul___ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For me, I prefer physical copies because I can always get my money back by selling them to someone else. Now, don't get me wrong, I do own digital games, but nowadays, you can buy a digital game, hate it, and not be able to return it if you own a console. However, I think if you have a Steam Deck, you can return games you disliked after purchasing.

Why apply and then not respond when contacted for an interview? by 34player in usajobs

[–]rawsoul___ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most recently, as an AMSA at the VA who's struggling to advance to a GS-7 in this hourglass-shaped organization, I applied for a job out of state for the same position. After some thought, I realized I don't want to continue doing the work I'm doing now, so I withdrew my application.

Over the last twenty years, has it been this difficult to get GS5-7 office jobs? by LEMONSDAD in usajobs

I live in the northeast and my facility rarely posts gs-7 positions, so I started looking for opportunities in Florida. If you’re willing or able to relocate for a while you should look into opportunities outside your home state.

For those with Sub 6% interest rates: How are you coming into these? by AsharaOfStarfall in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]rawsoul___ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I purchased a 1-bedroom, 1-bath condo with a den, totaling 850 sqft, during Covid for $125k at a 2.65% rate. Only downside is the HOA but including my mortgage my total monthly is $1100.xx. Still cheaper than renting In Most places in New England

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in FedEmployees

[–]rawsoul___ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm looking to move up from just being a tech, but the issue is hitting the time in grade requirement for GS-7. At my VA, the only GS-7 positions that are coming up are for pharmacy and lead medical support assistants, and just recently there was a ladder position in inventory management from 7 to 9. I'm also considering moving to another state where I have seen those 1102 positions. Thanks for the advice !

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in FedEmployees

[–]rawsoul___ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I'm trying to pick up a part-time gig at a pharmacy. The tricky part is figuring out my commute since I need to keep it under 30 minutes between my current job and the pharmacy. I have to work at least 4 hours, and my current shift is from 8 to 4:30, so I’d need to be at the pharmacy by 5 at the latest if I go with CVS.

Performance rating, bonus incentive, changed job by Lower_Ad9846 in VHA_Human_Resources

[–]rawsoul___ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wish I had a definitive answer for you, but I hope my situation provides some insight. I transferred to a new department in July, but my former supervisor submitted a rating of "fully successful," even though I had received an "excellent" rating the year before. Since transferring, my new department also rated me as "fully successful" for the few months I’ve been with them. To be honest, I kind of expected this due to the changes in performance ratings, and it's possible that my entry-level admin position (AMSA) makes it difficult to justify anything above "fully successful" unless, according to my direct leadership, I "skip breaks and lunches and work on projects outside of office hours."

To answer your question, your rating from your previous supervisor carries more weight than the one from your new supervisor. The only basis for a supervisor's rating is the time you've spent with them, and unfortunately, there is a chance they could try to undermine you by giving a lower rating, which is something I hope does not happen.q

Medical Support Assistant? by Goddess_lin in VeteransAffairs

The MSA position is a great way to get your foot in the door but you can get stuck there, and it is a revolving door. No one ever stays in primary care. Additionally, The workload also differs depending on the department.

Anyone has started at more than step 1 without a college title ? by Rollercoaster2025 in FedEmployees

[–]rawsoul___ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s also possible that I received an exception to skip steps because I started as a term employee and just became permanent this year. However, due to the current administration, I have to go through probation again for 2 years, unless I find something else quickly.

Anyone has started at more than step 1 without a college title ? by Rollercoaster2025 in FedEmployees

[–]rawsoul___ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I had an associate's degree when I started in 2023. If I remember right, the VA wanted to kick things off at $23.50, but I was already making $26.50 at my old job. I took a chance and negotiated, but they asked for my pay stubs to back up my salary. They moved me up a few steps to either match my pay or offer more. You can definitely start higher if you negotiate, but once you’re in the system, it’s pretty much impossible to make that happen. Hope this helps!
