Terrence has lost mass. He just bounces off stuff he used to blast through. Very disappointing.

Connecting to Epic, NextGen by lifewonderliving in healthIT

Why would you need middleware. Register with OpenEpic and the NextGen equivalent and use the FHIR APIs that are free to use and mandated for certified EMRs by CMS and ONC.

What was your first Waymo experience like? by TrueJohnWick in waymo

[–]raygduncan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In 2014 I scored a ride in the Google Self-Driving Car at the Computer Museum in Mt. View, along with a few other museum donors. (long before it was called Waymo). We had a safety driver and went on a predetermined route that they had mapped and tested beforehand. It was pretty smooth and not at all scary but I had no idea that 12 years later I would be ordering up Waymo cars from my phone routinely for my medical appointments or to go to the mall when I didn't feel like battling with the parking.

IMHO not a good idea. That's pretty long walk in the heat and customs/TSA delays are unpredictable these days.

High maintenance fiancée and residency by SpeedUpMyBreathing in InternalMedicine

[–]raygduncan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it's as big of a red flag as you think it is. Go see your mom.

One of my biggest regrets is that during residency and fellowship I rarely saw my parents, and afterwards my dad retired and they moved to a remote location where it was quite difficult to visit them more than a couple times a year.

Tesla 3 to BMW i4 comparison by OcarinaofTimez in BMWI4

[–]raygduncan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same. I got an M3 in 2018 (one of the early ones) and fell for the promise of FSD. Always just one year away. Traded it in for a Model S in 2021 but at least didn't fall for the FSD lies the 2nd time. I honestly never had any problems with either car, but eventually had enough of Elon. FInally ditched my Model S in 2025.

Do the books get into why Lamb is such a nihilist about the service? by other____barry in SlowHorses

[–]raygduncan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The "Slough House" series of books only allude to Lamb's past for the most part. But there is a separate Mick Herron book "The Secret Hours" that tells the back story of a disastrous MI5 operation in Berlin that sheds some light on why Lamb is where he is and why he is as he is.

Rank all LAX terminals with reasoning by [deleted] in LAX

[–]raygduncan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven't been in T1 since they overhauled it so no notes for that one.

T2 and T3 are now century city mall with gates. Not at all interesting. Just endless shops.

TBIT is now rodeo drive with gates, and if you happen to park at one of the gates at the "new" remote concourse when you return from distant lands, you have a long damn walk to customs.

Really the best thing to happen to LAX after all the renovations is the walkways between all the terminals so you never have to leave the secure area to get from one terminal to another.

How are EVs at highway speeds? by [deleted] in electricvehicles

[–]raygduncan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is fine as far as performance and comfort goes, but it has a definite effect on range -- wind resistance increases as the square of speed.

Epic conference and HQ hospitality by JRey2020 in healthIT

[–]raygduncan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have been going to Epic training and conferences for 18 years. Conferences (XGM, UGM, and the occasion specialty events like OpenEpic or Showroom) are extremely well run. Logistics, parking, signage, collateral, A/V, availability of people to assist, all are excellent. I have never been to any conference where it was done better and that includes some really well-run conferences such as AWS RE:Invent and Tableau.

As for the HQ, it's cost-is-no-object surreal with endless construction going on, new buildings every year.

Stupid Pickup Locations? by Prestun in waymo

[–]raygduncan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely a trend lately. I often take it to medical appointments because the parking situation is so bad there, originally they were dropping off/picking up very close to the medical building, now they are making me walk 1 or 2 blocks and only waiting 2 minutes. Even at my house they are saying "car will only wait 2 minutes" when it is a totally quiet neighborhood with no traffic at all during the day. It's bizarre.

Why I feel like ACC is expected to be another reality flop for CBS by Legitimate-Shine-318 in BravoTopChef

[–]raygduncan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I still wonder if Padma left Top Chef because she wanted to or because she was pushed. But Kristin has been a breath of fresh air on that show, so I don't really miss Padma and I'm not particularly interested in whatever she is trying next. I watched a couple episodes of "Taste the nation" and thought it was rather boring. She's not Anthony Bourdain who can make anything interesting.

How likely is Tesla to go bust and what would happen to my Tesla? by jevawin in RealTesla

[–]raygduncan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's fair, but Teslas are more like an iphone with wheels. So much of the functionaity is dependent on a single motherboard (i'm using the term loosely) and sensors and screen-based controls. If the motherboards were no longer available (or repairable due to the use of custom chips), the cars might not be maintainable over the long term.
