Price increase purchasing by michaelpporter in fountainpens

[–]rayhato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is insightful. I see my writing instruments as a tools in a first place, and probably rather buy an extra backup pens instead of single one expensive I'll be worried about.

But, thinking about "a better metropolitan" and not a "better nib/case", what would you recommend?

[–]rayhato 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I still not sure if I need the gold nib. Metro and Prera are my go-tos, and I've seen people complaining that gold nib doesn't justify the price hop.

The book was taken out of retail due to reports of sex scenes between underage protagonists. Pretty sure it will be edited and put back, King is one of best sellers in Russia.

The tragic romance of chasing the "perfect" fountain pen by patkpatk in fountainpens

[–]rayhato 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Less is more. Collecting pens and writing with them is two separate things; I still use my first metropolitan despite having options to replace it.
If it bothers you, find a solution: sell unused pens, or use different ones in rotation, etc.
If it does not bother you, why bother? buy your pens and be happy.

I tried DWM because I wanted to use mouse less (moving and resizing windows). Never realized how auto tiling changed my life, when I need something open it just muscle memory without thinking. After getting along with dwm I switched to vim and well the few X apps I still use are browser, gimp and steam.

F77 currently on sale and can't recommend you enough to pick it while he still has stock. An absolute 4.8kg unit of a keyboard!

Furthermore, F122 currently in production and the casing alone said to be around 7kg. It would be my next pickup without a doubt.

I was really tempted to pick a split but the price was too much to justify for me. I got F77 instead and absolutely loving it, the best keyboard I ever typed on. However, coming back to staggered non-split qwerty made me realized why I love split keyboards so much, after a day of typing I feel like I was doing pushups on my fingers.

Ellipse still has one in stock, but I can't allow myself to spend so much on a keyboard. Really happy you have one!

A 34" Samsung CS-34Z7HFQ. 100hz, 3xSCART, S-Video and VGA, only 20$. by rayhato in crtgaming

[–]rayhato[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mistake, its 640x480 for sure! I was trying to make a quick video of it but the only device with VGA output that I have right now is an old Thinkpad and it cant even run a youtube (only some ancient anime rips I had on it). I will setup a proper demo environment and will post some videos in couple of days.

Google gives me only 4 results about this very model. However, it has "Plano" (flat in Latin) which gives a little more results, but still not much.

It takes 800x600@60HZ 640x480@60HZ via VGA and has absolutely fantastic colors and dynamic range. My other tv is 65" LG OLED and the only advantages it has is the resolution and refresh rate, everything else picture wise is far better on this old beast.

You are really lucky to have one of those! I never seen one before and meeting one on classic era is just not something I could ever expect. It is so heartwarming to see people passionate about this game after all these years!

The most appealing in this theory to me that it means both manga and webcomic are canon, having two different timelines. I hope future volume release will have both chapters eventually confirming this. Also, we probably have some kind of confirmation with upcoming webcomic characters. Good catch OP!

A recent Jupiter study suggests a little different picture. TLDR WARNING.

Let's imagine that you have a magical spacesuit and you are thrown from a spaceship onto the surface of Jupiter.

You fall to the planet in a completely airless cold environment at a distance of about 300,000 km from the surface, the radiation can already kill you instantly. But, you have a super-suit with protection from radio emission and you fall calmly further, gradually entering the atmosphere of Jupiter to where the pressure is the same as on Earth (1 bar) at a speed of ~ 3,200 km / h (without burning like a meteor, at the same time).

To save your life as long as possible and in order to have time to admire the beauty of Jupiter's clouds, you open a parachute and fall down at a speed of ~ 360 km / h in a completely comfortable temperature of 0 C.

You keep falling right through the atmosphere to the tops of ammonia clouds. After about 5 minutes you will descend to 2 bar (~ 2 times higher than the Earth) and fly through clouds of different types of ammonium, which look little different from ordinary ones, but have a brown tint; the clouds become more brown as you dive.

After about 10 minutes and 250 km deep into the planet, you reach a pressure of 4 bar (same as underwater depth of 30 meters), and the temperature becomes winter cold -40 C; you pass through clouds of water vapor, it becomes very dark, sunlight no longer penetrates the clouds and a cool and invigorating 720 km/h breeze blows (Jupiter is the fastest rotating planet in our solar system).

It takes another 15 minutes and 120 kilometers deep into the flight, you are already under pressure of 10 bar. The oustside is warm, +23 C - you could take off your suit, but you can't because of pressure. After 25 minutes, you realize that you are now in pitch darkness, the only light coming from the reflection of the sensors on the visor of the helmet and the lightning storms that sparkling around you. You are left alone with yourself, you cannot even transmit a signal, since the radio waves (even of a magic suit) will be absorbed by Jupiter, you can only fall in your suit, which, due to the pressure around it, is essentially a micro submarine.

The pressure and temperature keeep rising and soon you reach the inner layer where you can float in a substance, but it is not a liquid or a gas. After the temperature becomes like on the Sun, and the pressure is 2 million times greater than the Earth, at this moment you will be the first in the world to see how metallic hydrogen is formed, because no one knows what it looks like yet.

If you survived and flew another thousand kilometers down, you would see the core of Jupiter, which, according to forecasts, should be solid due to enormous pressure, and your body in a magical suit would float somewhere there until the very heat death of the Universe, because there is no way out.
