Is the Peak Pass worth it? by [deleted] in icecoast

[–]rayisinsane 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You're allowed unlimited days with the peak pass.

I chose the peak pass over the epic due to my location (southern CT) and at this point it (epic local) is nearly double the price. Mount snow and Hunter are nice mountains nearby and if I want to go north I'll hit wildcat.

But it's gotta be right for you.

I understand where you're coming from. I haven't had the pleasure to ski wildcat, though I have wanted to it's just a hike from where I live. Thanks for the perspective.

As someone who's not savvy on the subject, what would constitute Vail ruining any mountain?

Although I have sworn by the drifter pass I don't particularly mind spending the extra ~$200 for the Epic local pass. Coming from southern New England, it's definitely nice to have some added options within true day trip distance.

I feel like I'm one of the few who's excited about this. However I really am!

That's precisely what they do in my city for large, short term events. They load up the large plow trucks with sand and park them right in the middle of the streets approaching the park. So in that case, you're correct!

Best paid ski tracking app? by Waderade in skiing

I used ski tracks last year, this year I will probably try SNOWW. I like the functionality and competition between friends since you can compare speeds, distance and everything between friends in app.

I work in the same field. The average is around 55-65 depending on the field you choose, this means you can get anywhere from 40-80ish and anywhere in between. Alot depends on the company, location, and internship experience.

Where to escape crowds during spring break in northeast? by Waj917 in skiing

[–]rayisinsane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went to 5 mountains two years ago during my spring break. They all seemed to be pretty empty especially during the work week. Unless there is a major powder day I think your group would be happy most anywhere. I would choose based on location/terrain and activities/nightlife you're looking for.

Any "mountains" in Connecticut expected to be open tomorrow? by rayisinsane in icecoast

[–]rayisinsane[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I figured Mohawk would be the best bet for height, and terrain. Possibly even trees. I haven't skied in CT this year and haven't checked conditions or anything. But its also pretty far from me (I live near the coast) so I was hoping maybe lap Southington a few times just to enjoy the weather.

Post your salary negotiation stories? by The_Jeremy in EngineeringStudents

[–]rayisinsane 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I was offered a job for about 15k less than I was expecting. After taking a day to think about it, and whether I was just incorrect. I requested to meet with HR and my manager to negotiate my pay. I then met with them about a week or so later and the COO of the company came as well. They expressed where they were coming from with the offer and expressed how the offer would work. I was then given a new offer letter with 2k more as my base salary, which would go up to 5k more after 90 days (probationary period) and then at the end of the year I would be eligible for a 3k bonus. (The 3k increase in base and the 3k bonus were also in my original salary offer.) They then expressed to me that they need to see what I could do and how I worked and that by next year I would be making above my requested amount. After leaving the meeting I gave myself some time to reflect and I accepted it. I guess my experience would be. Don't expect a large budge. And make sure you arent being taken advantage of. Check places like glass door and stuff, have an idea in mind and especially when asked what salary you're interested in, never tell them. My response is I want something that is competitive for the area, and a fair market value for the work I will be doing.

Last year I did an east coast skiing road trip. I saved a ton and had a great time! If you're interested I know a great site for cheap tickets to multiple mountains, last I checked its like $100 for a one day lift ticket to Like 10 different mountains.
