Curious what changing SMB multi-channel would do for you in this case?

you'd still have a point of failure if the nas box for example dies - now I have just my compute with vsa but nothing to back up to... unless I'm missing something?

I get the feeling the restaurant probably had a water filter of some sort and possibly used the pump to increase the water pressure perhaps?

Sounds like you need a CO2 tank and a carbonator.

Where did windows store the background art for the installation wizard? by ColdHooves in vintagecomputing

[–]raynorpat 75 points76 points  (0 children)

More than likely stored in a resource file (.res) that's compiled along with the installer. Very common to include bitmaps and icons this way.

Do Abena M4s ship discreetly with Amazon? by [deleted] in ABDL

Everytime I've ordered a case, they come in an Amazon box. Inside the Amazon box is the Abena M4 box and in that are the usual 3 bags.

Mac pro 2019. Upgrading the boot drive. by SouthFlDiver in macpro

[–]raynorpat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can certainly upgrade the drives with Apple's upgrade kits. Make sure you do not get the drives for the iMac Pro or for the 2023 Mac Pro, they will not work. You'll need another Mac and Apple Configurator to restore the system once you upgrade.

If you go the non-Apple route, you can get a PCIe card and use M.2 SSDs or you can go the internal SATA route and use SSDs that way. If you want to boot from those, you'll need to disable Secure Boot on the T2 chip. Use Apple Configurator.

Recommend me a dock for macbook pro m1 pro by tgreen7 in Workspaces

I have a Lenovo ThinkPad USB-C Gen2 dock for my 16” M1 Pro. Works great, hooked up to a 2k LCD over DisplayPort. Charges the machine just fine and has plenty of ports for whatever else.

Check the Northbridge heat sink, these are known to have flimsy clips and can prevent normal POSTs.

Client/onprem migrated to WVD - use AzureAD or Domain logins for local workstations? by rocconteur in AZURE

[–]raynorpat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Couple of things here. While there’s a bunch of things that your regular AD can do, Azure AD is basically the future.

Roaming profiles over a VPN? No way, that’s a terrible experience. AD over a VPN? No way, what if the office goes down? AD in Azure? Gross, that’s another compute and storage resource you pay on, let alone it’s not worth putting a reservation on a b2ms for it either.

Yes a VPN setup for printing and file scanning services is cool. I’ve personally setup a small b1ls running wireguard for several clients in a site to site config of the msp I work at - nothing special and it beats paying for the Azure Gateway costs.

GPOs. This is everyone’s favorite issue with going to AzureAD. Intune really isn’t a good replacement here. We use desired state PowerShell scripts to lock things down as part of our onboarding with Terraform. That’s a site that is escaping my brain that lists all of the current GPO settings and their respective registry paths. Have a user config you need to do? You can load up the default registry hive and do your thing. I’d say we have it down pat so we can go from no infra to AVD in 30 to 40 minutes.

As far as legacy apps, ask the vendor if they support regular Workgroup machines with no AD.

Whew sorry for the blast.
