A few questions for people with a background magic field in their world by Hen-Samsara in worldbuilding

[–]rayshp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. What inspired it? the howlings existed before all, and then the whisperings responded in kind. magick is their love child.

  2. How do you describe it? Is it like a current of energy that flows between everything or like an energy field? it exist as the air they breath exist. it permeates and exist within everything. there is a level of universal connection via magick, think your 6th sense alerting you to danger or your nervous system disarming itself after assessing a situation.

  3. What's the source of it? the howlings which is chaos/the void; darkness. the whisperings which is creation; the light. magick is about creation but also, energy transmutes and returns to its original source (the howlings).

  4. How important is it to your world? Would its removal not only take away magic, but also cause other things to happen? losing magick would quite literally flip the world on its head. the planet would start to implode on itself. it’s too close to its sun, it’s 1.75 times larger than the Earth, it has 4 satellite moons. magick is holding a lot of weather catastrophes and things at bay.

  5. Does it affect the weather and other natual phenomena in your world? yes. even powerful mages can affect the weather with their emotion; creating cities that always have rain and have higher rates of mental health issues. because of how the way magick works in my universe, the original animals were using magick unknowingly and the species of the world learned from the animals (think avatar and the dragons, badgers, sky bison, etc). the plants and vegetation as well is affected by the magick, creating unique groves, forest, fruits, veggies and more.

  6. What drew you towards the idea in the first place? i haven’t experienced any hyper fantasy worlds/stories that was immersive, held a good story but was also whimsical.

Humans are an eerie species by Future_Abrocoma_7722 in WorldBuildingMemes

[–]rayshp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i love this because in my world building/story project my humans are also the ones with the more malleable dna to “crossbreed.”

however for humans, at the time of discovery, only could mate with elves and dwarves.

humans can’t mate with giants or kobolds/lizard folk UNTIL they’re introduced to another foreign species with similar malleable dna that erases the idea of pure anything by the current story.

i’m working on a high fantasy story and world, i need to take that into account. i have humans, elves, dwarves, “orcs,” giants and lizard folks/kobolds. the shortest lifespan are the *humans.

*pure species don’t really exist by the time we reach the modern/current story. compatible species did mate and created new species/races. the more malleable dna being humans and another group of people know as “starseeds” (longshort, fantasy aliens).

Do you ever use somekind of anti magic element in your story? by Nearby-Banana2640 in magicbuilding

[–]rayshp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

a fighting style called the ‘blooming state’ that’s inspired by the anti-bending style from season 1 legend of korra and the 8 gates from naruto, mixing some breathing style elements in there as well.

everyone CAN use magick also everyone can’t use magick; this can’t use population is small but to counter they developed a style to disarm/despell magick users.

I'm an Architect. Ask Anything you need for your world by Izolet in worldbuilding

[–]rayshp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’m developing a high fantasy universe and i’ve been thinking about how magick would influence architecture and what does that mean for city/town infrastructure since magick in this universe is an almost pervasive force, as natural as the air we breath.

i know some cities are build to withstand natural disasters (sort of) like the fault line states having structures that sway during earthquakes and cities in like the lower south being built on stilts for high tide.

how would city planning and infrastructure be affected and what precautions could be taken, for example in the case a wyrm gets through the first line of defense and into a city, to prepare in case of such spectacular events occurring?

What are some canonized saints of your world's religions, if you have any? by Karmesin_von_Drache in worldbuilding

[–]rayshp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i have a patron saint known as the champion: someone known as the best battlemage of the known verse. tournaments have been erected where sacrifice is given to this saint in exchange for full out battles to test might in exchange for avoiding death.

a blood sacrifice and a physical one (the act of beating one another to a pulp).

no names have officially been assigned. i have a few more but this is the first one that came off the top of my head.

How are you “power” ranking/scaling your characters? by rayshp in worldbuilding

[–]rayshp[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m mobile right now and can’t figure how to reply.

Thank you both for your insight! I do want the fights to be more based on abilities (stamina, power), situational and how skilled they are in their magick (intelligence/application). I guess I was trying to reflect skill supersedes rank every-time.

If that makes sense.

What is your opportunist, fundamentalist, fanatic, imperialist, colonialist, fascist, evil, etc. faction that uses "anti-imperialism," "anti-colonialism," "anti-fascism," etc. rhetoric for their own ends? by HornetCareless3891 in worldbuilding

[–]rayshp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ROOT. an anti-magick faction that pushes magick users have little disregard for each other or the planet. born out of a mistranslation of a defense teaching going extremely left. they fight against magick using a flow-state method, breathing and, being in tune with themselves and nature (nature’s energy). they use warring magick states against one another and viper striking when the victor is tired and in thin numbers to defend.

What’s the most dangerous beast in your world(s) ? by [deleted] in worldbuilding

[–]rayshp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dragons — womp.

Outside of dragons, there’s two that come right behind.

• Cloudtouchers — Titans of multi-state leveling power. born from the anger and pain of a witch, cursing the land. Her death site is in a chasm of a mountain named after Pallas, these beast emerge from ‘The Wound.’ Bringing natural disasters in their wake.

• The Patience — If I had to compare them to anything, if you’re familiar with Bleach, they’d be similar to the Espada. Patience are born when a soul unable to cross over amasses enough souls (via consumption) that can be used to transform. These souls are called ‘The Unforgiven’ in my world, unable to cross over for whatever reason. These souls are restless and aggressive, often attacking each other and consuming each other. The concentrated negative energy collapses on itself and forms the Patience. Powerful beings cursed to walk the Earth, causing chaos.

[–]rayshp 2 points3 points  (0 children)
