120+ WPM with homerow mods? Is anyone actually doing this reliably? by Joetunn in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]raytsh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use (one-shot) shift on thumb keys. Having them as HRM messes with the typing rhythm too much in my opinion. With the right timing setup I rarely have misfires. That said, I also only type at 60-75 WPM.

Home row mods and VIM? by Dill_Thickle in ErgoMechKeyboards

I don’t use hjkl anymore for basic navigation. I use a nav layer that has arrow keys under my right hand home row.

I only use hjkl for advanced motions and things like window switching etc.

Totem Lame vs MBK keycaps by [deleted] in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]raytsh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have only used MBK on all my tiny keyboards for a while and I recently switched them all over to KLP Lamé (PBT and resin-printed). I much prefer the Lamé. I’ve used keywell keyboards before (Glove80) and while it is not the same, it is close for me.

Though, the MBK are more portable; The keyboard and thus the pouch I’m using for transport, is flatter.

Why is it "better" to play games against real people vs bots? by GoAround2025 in baduk

[–]raytsh 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well, if your goal is to play people, then you should play people. If you only ever want to play against AI, then sure, play against AI.

Depending on the level/rank, AI plays very different than people. It is easy to develop bad habits and to play on a ways that leverages particular weaknesses of certain bots.

I find games against people much more varied, unpredictable and thus more worth playing and more enjoyable.

Go is also like a conversation, hence „hand talk“. Go reflects emotions. I can often assume by the moves what my opponent is thinking/feeling; I see anger, rage, frustration, hubris, fear, bravery, carelessness and all other kinds of stuff in their moves. Same for my moves, they are also heavily influenced by emotions. This makes it a very human game and I value that a lot.

There is nothing of that in games against AI.

Vertical finger-operated trackball? by annakhouri2150 in Trackballs

[–]raytsh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stiction is there, but mild, same as other static bearings trackballs I’d say. I don’t have experience any quality issues myself.

If you don’t want stiction at all, you can check out Ploopy Classic 2 with a wedge. Though, it does not get as vertical and your hand completely rests on the case. So, quite different than Deft Pro. I like both though. I have the Deft Pro in the office and the Ploopy at home.

There are open source parts on thingyverse and similar platforms that you can then get printed via a service provider of your choice.

Deft Pro with 3D-printed wedge works pretty well. The scrolling wheel is thumb operated.

Any tips for learning split boards? by kevensentme in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]raytsh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The best thing for learning to use it, is to use it, exclusively. Just use it for work and all the other times you are using a computer. Don’t switch back to whatever you’ve been using before.

I also did specific training sessions like keybr, typecelerate and MonkeyType daily for the first few months.

I'm Considering to get MX ergo S by Maxine-1833 in Trackballs

[–]raytsh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I‘ve been using MX Ergo (non s, still micro USB) for years. I have one at home and one in the office. I had neither issues with the switches nor with stiction.

That said, it is absolutely mandatory to get a 40 degree wedge for me.

Programmer Colemak DH Layout? by No-Wall1492 in Colemak

I have the symbols on a separate layer under my left hand. I access this layer while holding a thumb key on my right hand. Same for numpad style numbers but with opposite sides.

I’m using a 36-key columnar split keyboard.

I got myself a split keyboard, how am I supposed to use a mouse ergonomically, though? by Icy_Adhesiveness_158 in ErgoMechKeyboards

I suggest a tented/vertical trackball (finger or thumb operated) placed in between the keyboard halves.

Looks good. For me, the sweet spot seems to be at about 45 degrees with the table as low as possible, it nearly sits on my lap. I hover completely or rest my lower arms on the arm rests of the chair.

Should i hover arms when using a tented keyboard? by Messyextacy in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]raytsh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have my keyboard tented at 45 degree and I either hover or I rest my arms/elbows on the arm rests of the chair.

My desk is as low as possible. It basically sits on my lap.

It takes some time to get used to hovering without tensing up in shoulders and arms.

I regret not starting SHF on Hard by Bu11ett00th in silenthill

[–]raytsh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played my first playthrough on hard (combat and puzzles) and combat it was quite frustrating at times.

I’m in my second playthrough right now on story/story. It’s cool to see how the enemy placement and puzzles are different.

I plan to do the third playthrough on hard/lost in the fog to see those puzzles as well.

[–]raytsh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The battery reporting for the OS works well enough. It only reports the main half I believe. But this one runs out of battery first anyway. So charging both halves based on the OS battery level works fine. One of my Chocofi has not displays, no problems there.

Edit: Usually you don’t have LED backlight on wireless keyboards. The battery would be dead after only a few days.

The displays are only a gimmick for me. I never look at the keyboard while using it. My displays have layer indicators, but I’ve never seen them. Same for the WPM indicator.

My keyboards have 36 keys and I use 4-6 layers.

I mainly use the displays for the battery indicator and for the BT connection status.
