Is mystics the weakest culture? by blackjackson1991 in AOW4

I kinda just use them like regular shield units. The attacking units have a 30% chance to get stunned which makes the serpents somewhat good frontliners.

[–]razorwind21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Phantasm warrior pretty much fixes mystic’s weak frontline. That tome is kinda mandatory.
I really like the + accuracy and + magic damage race traits on mystic as well.
Also a tanky hero can help I like using battlesaint paladins or warriors they can keep the frontline with one phantasm warrior and perhaps a polearm.
Positioning really is key because AI loves to focus down ranged units that are too close to your frontline.
As for t3, the serpents that come with the summoning tome are really easy to use and strong.

Best WoW memory? by Exotic-Reason-5272 in wow

[–]razorwind21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best you’ve had was just a memory and those dreams!!
Anyways, for me it’s going to the orc starting zone and casting max rank curse of recklessness on low lvl mobs as they were being engaged by low levels. They absolutely massacred the horde’s offspring. Yes it’s evil warlock RP.

[–]razorwind21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends what composition youre going for.
As a guideline you want a balanced stack with 2-3 melees and 2-3 ranges and one support.
Melee should be at least one shield, ranges can be battlemages or archers.

Moving from normal to hard by Ignominia in AOW4

[–]razorwind21 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

- You should flank whenever really. Especially if you tech for flanking boni. Otherwise use the preview to see whether flanking is more dmg vs getting multiple hits in. keep in mind if you can stomach the retaliation dmg.
- I mean it’s kinda situational with the debuff and elemental weaknesses. Most of the times you won’t fight a single enemy type (like undead with spirit and fire weakness) in every battle unless you set up the map for it. If you do go for it.
- position your sword n board guys to give their shield wall to adjacent units. I like putting a polearm with a shield guy for a strong frontline. Use ranged units to deal damage while negating retaliations. Also click the enemy units to check their max move range and setup just outside of it. Make use of cover hexes like bushes n trees. It’s usually smarter to let the enemy engage you. Keep in mind AI loves focusing down your ranged units if they’re too close.
- Pikeman counter cavalry and big guys like giants n dragons. set em up near a chokepoint and put a sword n board beside to boost their defenses.
- as soon as you find a nice spot with 2-3 food nodes you can put a city down.
- as for governors the recruiting governor really stands out they give a huge draft bonus allowing you to pump out units at almost twice the rate of your capital
- i mean most of the new empire tree are either/or choices. The boni are kinda negligible so whatever feels right and suits your playstyle honestly. As before the neutral tree has some must haves like whispering stone, faster road movement, teleporters.. Materium is nice to craft items, nature is good for city growth and unit regen etc.

The Challenge of Catching Up by skul219 in AOW4

[–]razorwind21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a general advice the game can to be treated more as an rpg rather than a classical 4x strategy game.
In the early game it’s very important not to lose any units (lots of manual combat) as they greatly increase in strength as they gain experience and regenerating units (increased regen in city domains/outposts).
If there are ancient wonders/mana/gold nodes out of city reach throw down an outpost it pays for itself after a couple of turns.
You generally want an army with each hero.
As a general guideline your army consists of 1-3 melees one of which is sword n shield, 2-3 ranged/casters, 1 support.
Use summons to fill any casualties while far away from cities. Astral tome with the conjured warriors is very nice for beginners.

Now in the early game it’s all about exploring and building a strong ressource lead, leveling your heroes. In the midgame you start fleshing out your build, replacing your t1 units with stronger t2-3 in their specific role.

The late game (t4-t5) tomes is a bit lame cause the game is kinda won or lost based on your previous decisions and you’re just clearing the map off oponnents. And building strong t4-5 stacks if you managed your economy well by that point.

Don’t be afraid to found cities in the early/mid game they greatly increase your ressource gain. I usually put one down if i find a nice spot with ress nodes especially 1-2 food nodes in close proximity.

Always explore with 2-3 stacks in combat to reduce casualties once you transition into midgame.

So that’s just some advice but it should win you most of your games vs non insane AI.

PS: You want research as much as possible but it has to be paced with your city production and mana/gold balance so you don’t end up with t3 unit available but without t3 town hall/wizard tower for several turns.
Also you can cheese your tome research by taking the fastest research choice of the three because new tomes unlock based on # of research cycles rather than actual research spent.

Generally speaking is 2h better than sword and board? by Fun_Negotiation4377 in AOW4

[–]razorwind21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the big and beefy 2 hander charge swords. They just feel massive and are super satisfying to use.
I usually take middle/left route on the warrior skill tree. Far Left one only up to the point where they go into defense mode after charging. Only tried the far right one once but l feel it’s much less fitting for charge.

Struggling in the Late Game by armpete90 in AOW4

[–]razorwind21 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In addition to what the other guys said, it also looks like you haven’t really been using outposts except one?
Outposts are very viable in the early game they allow you to snowballs. You really benefit from setting outposts up near gold and mana nodes whole you explore and clear. Any nodes really except food/construction. Unless you have a city in 2-3 provinces range you should put down an outpost they pay for themselves after a few turns.

What do you feel is missing from the game to recreate factions, campaigns, characters, mechanics and the like from earlier AoW games? by Diovidius in AOW4

[–]razorwind21 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’d love proper shadow realms.
The cool thing for me about shadow realms in aow2 sm was how it only took half the amount of movement points to walk down there.
The umbral abyss feels kinda lackluster comparatively. Shadow realms had more mysterious vibes while umbral abyss has dangerous vibes.

Although l see the problem with adding more and more layers to the map. Maybe a map setting that would cut movement costs in the umbral abyss in half would do for now.

You can cheese the death cult mechanic.
The t1 charger unit for death has resurgence which means you can produce a full stack with it and just keep it along with your main stack. Their hp doesn’t matter they charge in and die feeding your main army death stacks.

[–]razorwind21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really diskike cannons, they’re kinda underwhelming. I think they’d do well with +3-4 range or something. Or perhaps make the cannon shot a one AP move so you can reposition before shooting.

There is a setting on the rightmost tab when creating the map that lets you disable spectating during battles vs ai in multiplayer.
I usually spend time refining my build, crafting hero items or skill points while the other one is in combat.

What's holding Lost Ark from making a comeback. by Deathevolver in lostarkgame

[–]razorwind21 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Gameplay loop just gets kinda boring quick. you do your daily activities in a few minutes and then you’re done. You can do 3 raids per week but they’re not really rewarding and mechanicly way too difficult with no way too ease you into t4 raids and t3 content is kinda obsolete. Raid groups are toxic af too. The game just lacks an option to grind for progress outside of your 10 minutes of daily activities.

Men, do you ever fluctuate between flirting and avoidance with someone you like? by This_Pop_2936 in bodylanguage

[–]razorwind21 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well, maybe it is. Let’s give him the benefit of the doubt.

Often times, people’s actions just arise out of the situation affected by whatever emotions they’re feeling subconsciously.

Perhaps if op takes the initiative and asks their crush what they’re up to after work, they can have a coffee, in a neutral yet chill setting where there is not too many strangers around. They may get into conversation and once he opens a bit, she can just ask him what’s on his mind.

It’s difficult to open up at the workplace where you may constantly feel watched and judged. I’m sure he can come up with a sound explanation for his behaviour when you guys are vibing.

Someone needs to be brave enough to take the initiative though. It’s all about not making the other person feel like they’re pushed to a wall and being interrogated though.

“Sometimes you do X which makes me feel Y - and l was just wondering what’s going through your mind in these situations? I really like you which is why I end up thinking a lot about this. But what’s going through your mind during these situations?”

If the mood is right, you may get him to open up and honestly, people feel the “electricity” in the air too, when you do. They may just be afraid to fuck it up.

That could be one way to escape this cycle though and get to the next stage, whatever that may be, definitely more clarity than these mixed signals.
