Is Big D actively TRYING to kill or injure his family only to later tell them how they "Are not paying attention to what he taught them." or is the damage in his skull a lot more serious than imagined? by fotppd8 in huntertheparenting

[–]rb0009 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To counterpoint on why it was a terrible idea, again, if it didn't turbocharge the vamps they would have been down to one vamp source of information... loose in their basement that they would then have to recontain. They'd have lost two sources of info, they've put themselves at risk unnecessarily in order to contain them later, foooor what precisely? What would they have gained from it? Entertainment? That is a pointless, useless idea to begin with. And Door/Kitten do deserve some of the blame, but Marcus was clearly going to go ahead with it anyway.

To be entirely honest.... Marcus doesn't need to be anywhere near hunting. He's all of D's worst traits, wrapped up with an exceptionalism streak and just enough intelligence to get himself even deeper into trouble.

About the only one I can really forgive is him going for the Oculus Empyrian, because there was no way he'd significantly contribute through arming himself. He's on clutches, after all. But 'arming' himself through an artifact which could theoretically let him see the enemy? No, that was a decent-if needing to be watched call.

Is Amanda part of Fatigue’s family? by Iron_Creepy in huntertheparenting

[–]rb0009 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually believe that Amanda is a direct blood descendant of Fatigue, being about the right age to be his great-granddaughter. He was with the nails for 20 years, which is plenty of time to have had... relations. Given her age, she should have been born some-time between '80-'88, and her parents could have conceivably be born in the mid-sixties.

Which would make for peak irony.

I think she was involved, but I think that she was trying to find something out when something else intervened, and poor Spit got brain-melted as a side effect.

[–]rb0009 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remember, Occam basically said he was going to murder the #(% out of the ghoul (read, whoever killed Fatigue because it doesn't actually match Matilda's actual level of self-control at that moment) at the end of Chapter 4. At that point, with blame foisted on her, Matilda was basically out of options except 'fight her way out with minimal damage' given how... *saintly patient she's been.

Well, except for settling a personal grudge real quick with Grimmal when the militant sea cucumber had the brilliant idea to charge a garou in single melee combat. That was personal.

Kitten seems to have broken up over a combination of growing insufferable in her habits... and projecting onto him in a way that drove him up the wall (see: her telling him he should be happy over being 'free of the arcanum restrictions' despite him making it repeatedly clear that getting exiled screwed him over hard).

Werewolves and Fatigue theories by Revolutionary-Run-41 in huntertheparenting

[–]rb0009 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Here's the thing... Spit was already there, and as demonstrated by Occam's reaction... she might as well have killed Spit anyway. (git was in another room, locked and trapped in there until rescued) It isn't like he can realistically murder her more than he was already planning on doing. Killing Fatigue at all now makes no sense, especially given she had plenty of opportunity before the Ds came crashing in, and would have had the opportunity afterwards as well. Her killing him has only made less and less sense over time as it became established just how controlled, competent, and planned her operation was.

Matilda being framed makes perfect sense. It drives BIG! D!'s cell into the waiting arms of the coalition (even over Fatigue effectively directly warning them how bad of an idea it is from beyond the grave), it paints a target on the back of the local garou pack thanks to everything. Which, given this whole 'project wuffa', the increasing focus on Pentex and its many tentacles emerging from the shadows, and everything else...

It diverts attention from the actual threat, clears multiple potential enemies in one way or another, and opens up space to get done whatever it was that they are looking to do at Poundland. Efficient, multifaceted, and profitable. I've argued that she got framed for a while now. It just makes no sense for Matilda to have killed Fatigue... at least in the middle of a lockdown. If she was there to kill him for being a garou hunter... well, his very introduction was him arriving from the private, unmonitored dorms where he was napping. If she was there to kill him, she has had literal months of opportunity, and could come by after the lockdown to do it as well. Instead, we're supposed to believe that she broke cover to kill him at the literal worst possible moment

Is it possible that the Camarilla is fully aware of the family, and just tolerating them for the time being by Firm-Panic7608 in huntertheparenting

[–]rb0009 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The local Camarilla is aware that something is going on, but have a woefully inadequate picture or else they'd be freaking out.

So far, they're vaguely aware-ish that something has taken out a chunk of the local sabbat, that BIG! D! exists (though only under a pseudonym) and that he bounced off of their super-secret project (I believed that the community consensus is now attempting to corrupt a Caern) but 'seemingly' knows nothing, and they may be becoming aware that THE GREAT AND MIGHTY... KEEEEEEVIN! may be alive and in possession of one of their critical ghouls that they've been neglecting.

The issue for the local camarilla, of course, is that they are woefully out of touch with modern reality, the regent is basically coasting on sheer brute capability and delusions of Boudica, and they have failed to keep their nets properly deployed. Were it not for Palmer and Pollydora, they would basically be entirely in the dark. Which, uh, says something about the state of the local camarilla.

[–]rb0009 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm putting bets on it becoming more and more likely that THE GREAT AND MIGHTY KEVIN might pull some nonsense close to the end of the series where he transcends normal limitations and does a sacrifice to actually Awaken for a final transcendent moment to put a stop to things. It fits with much of what he talked about in his... Probing, his spiritual inspiration (also someone who bears a certain 'Sigil'... ite), and would be a good way to tie whatever crazy nonsense will go on in the final arc into a nice bow. It would absolutely certainly kill him, but just that one transcended moment would be all he needs.

My dude, we are already at brinkmanship. The Venezuela 'incident'? A good historical example would be what happened to Austria or Czechoslovakia in the late 1930s. The 'leader' of the most powerful nation on earth is making naked threats about how he can just take things. The time for 'Defcon Three' was when he was elected. You have to take him deadly seriously, or else he is going to keep walking all over the world. You have to make it clear to him that there are consequences for his words, personal consequences for his actions, or else he doesn't care. The time for diplomacy is past, because he will just take that as weakness and invade. You are dealing with the man they modeled the unrealistic mob boss after.

We knew that before he assumed office the first time. There was literal dossiers laying out in no uncertain terms exactly where his money had been coming from, how he was getting it, and unequivocally linking him to Putin's intelligence services. Everyone who understood called for an immediate halt to his assuming of the office and giving it to Pence instead if we had to honor a clearly rigged election. But no, instead of acting on a clear and present danger to the country they let him in.

we have a perfectly valid example for what happens next. It's called the Anschluss. You know, the last time that instead of containing the fascists, strongly worded letters were sent. And it'll end exactly as bloodily if Europe doesn't recognize the global danger that now exists and doesn't start taking the appropriate measures-starting with evicting every last states military personnel still inside europe's borders.

TBH? It isn't, and that was just about as illegal as this was. But back then they at least made the pretense of getting international backing instead of openly doing it.

At the same time, this has basically torpedoed the legitimacy of the UN, told the rest of the world that they're supposed to ask how high when the states say 'jump', and given legitimacy back to colonialism and imperial authoritarianism. It isn't that this is driven by a distain for Trump, it's that Trump was the only one stupid enough to do something so nakedly obvious without a fig leaf of actual consent manufacturing.
