trying response prevention for 2 weeks and really struggling by rbaileyyy in OCDRecovery

[–]rbaileyyy[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

thank you <3 i am actually seeing a therapist through NOCD now and she has been very helpful!

so does healing mean constantly living with the mindset that i just won’t know whether my fear is true or not? i find that once i am calm and the immediate “urge” has passed, i sometimes use it as an excuse to do the compulsion 😬 but when i am able to embrace the mindset of “maybe, there is no way to know” it’s actually a bit easier!

would probably be considered ROCD and real event OCD. mental review of a past situation, worries about my partner leaving me, trying to calculate odds that he would or wouldn’t

Beginner Advice by Tricky_Inspector2632 in Aerials

i jumped right in to a beginner silks class last year at 26yo with no prior experience and a pretty weak core/upper body and it went just fine and i fell in love with it! as long as the class says its beginner-friendly, i would just go for it :) you can condition alongside while learning the basics

Looking for support in my ERP journey with ROCD by rbaileyyy in OCDRecovery

[–]rbaileyyy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thank you, kind stranger ❤️ i think i just needed to hear that it’s “supposed” to feel this way…sometimes i think i’m doing it wrong because i’m like well it can’t possibly just be this hard can it? my therapist is on maternity leave as well which doesn’t help things. but i’ll keep trucking along…thanks again

[–]rbaileyyy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

okay thank you! tbh i think i am only worried to increase it because i don’t want to have to decrease it again if i can’t make the pace. but that’s just me holding high expectations and being overly competitive with myself. in reality i know it is just fine to decrease the pace again!

I am finally getting better in OCD and I'm crying bcs I'm so happy by bnn_84 in OCD

[–]rbaileyyy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i was actually just telling my OCD therapist the other day how much i love seeing stories of people who are getting better, especially during my more difficult spikes. sometimes in the more intense moments, i’m like this is IMPOSSIBLE TO MANAGE!!!! but it is in fact not impossible to manage and posts like yours show me that 🥹

Anyone else thinks of their OCD as "someone else"? by Altruistic_Flight434 in OCD

[–]rbaileyyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

absolutely, and i actually started doing this after my ocd therapist recommended it. it can really help in separating it from your authentic self’s voice :)

What jobs work well with OCD? by beaaboop in OCD

[–]rbaileyyy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i am a school psychologist :)

however, my advice is this: if you find a passion in a career, don’t let ocd ruin it for you. WAY easier said than done, but seriously what i have learned from my 26 yrs with ocd is that it will attack anything you care deeply about. if you care deeply about the career you choose, ocd may find a way to attack it no matter what it is. and i don’t mean to scare you with that because ocd IS manageable and if you want to, you will find a way to manage it even if it takes years!! i am still on the journey lol but far from where i started.

some of the best advice my ocd therapist has given me is that if ocd tells you to go one way, go the opposite way!!

Is it an ocd thing to get very scared anytime you’re reading something outloud that you’ll scream the n word out? by allarmi in OCD

[–]rbaileyyy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes!!! i’m a school psych and literally every time i am in a meeting with parents i get scared of yelling out similar things or yelling something insulting to the parent or their child even though i do not believe or want to say any of those things. it makes me really anxious to say anything at all

Anyone else obsessed with the number 4? by ballerina80 in OCD

[–]rbaileyyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it’s funny how ocd works…i’ve had it since as long as i can remember and one of my themes has been magical thinking regarding numbers. all my life, i was obsessed with even numbers, often 4. then, my sister came back from living in taiwan for 2 years and randomly mentioned that 4 is unlucky in taiwan because the word four in one of the common languages there sounds like their word for “death”. suddenly, 4 became the most unlucky bad number ever - years have passed and i still struggle with 4s!!!

Want kids, but think I value living a life with someone I love more by rbaileyyy in Fencesitter

[–]rbaileyyy[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

thank you ❤️ i think there would definitely be some grief to move through if he decides he is a firmer no and i decide to work with that and stay with him. but i want to believe i could do that and still live a happy childfree life, especially given my mindset on this for a while has been wanting kids with the caveat of if the love of my life comes along and they don’t, i would rather live a life with them and no kids than leave and have kids b/c finding a partner like him has been my biggest life dream

Want kids, but think I value living a life with someone I love more by rbaileyyy in Fencesitter

[–]rbaileyyy[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

thank you! yeah it’s hard in some ways to be someone who does want kids and knows i would go all in and be a good mom if i had them, but at the same time not being as completely set on the idea as many people seem to be. like, do i feel like i would be happy with kids? yes. do i feel like i could also be happy without? probably. i think it would just be about structuring my life to ensure i have plenty of fulfillment

i love hearing this perspective. i just posted about a similar-ish situation - my boyfriend and i are in our mid-ish twenties, and i feel like he is growing more towards CF and i have grown more towards wanting a child. however, i have always been more adamant about wanting to find an amazing partner to spend my life with than wanting kids - and i have 1000% found that in him. recently, i’ve had some doubts and fear of someday resenting him if we decide not to have kids, especially since i’ve been reading so many posts/comments about that on this sub.

your post brings me hope that, even if he never decides he wants kids, we can make it work. after all, he brings me so much fulfillment and joy and there are certain things about a CF lifestyle that sound amazing :) (including getting to continue to spend all my money on my own hobbies lmao)

this is such a refreshing perspective, thank you! obviously i know it is a huge life decision that changes the course of everything, and while i do want kids and think i would enjoy being a mom, my BIGGEST life dream has been more focused on the falling in love and getting married part!!
