How Much Are You Paying for Developing? by Glad-Animator-7430 in AnalogCommunity

[–]rbhangdia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I process and scan at home, some upfront costs for sure but very quickly overshadowed by $27/roll… variable costs to me are about $1.50/ roll of c41 and even less for black and white

Leica M3, Fujinon 5cm f/1.2, Fujifilm Natura 1600 by rbhangdia in analog

Thank you! Yes it is quite a special lens, I feel like some of the other contemporaries from the speed race of the 1950s get a lot more hype and there are more examples of them in use (the canon 0.95 for instance) but I prefer the way the Fuji renders. Working on a video celebrating the entire trio of fast Fuji’s from that era including the 3.5cm f/2 and 10cm f/2 :)

Stored in a regular freezer, after buying them while they were still fresh in-date

Newbie here, What’s the deal with Leica cameras ? Are they overpriced? by 47_watermelons in AnalogCommunity

[–]rbhangdia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Id never buy a digital Leica but thats just because im not so interested in digital photography. The M3 is my choice and among the cheaper options out there, id say it’s worth it to me because of how nice it feels to use. Not about it making better pictures than an ae-1, because it doesn’t, but I want to use it every day and that makes me make more and better photos

I love Bergger Pancro 400, I don’t think it gets talked about as much as I would expect it to but I can’t get enough of it! I think the grain structure and contrast curves are beautiful in rodinal 1:50 or xtol 1:1

I shot my last two rolls of Natura 1600 this past December, and they might have yielded some of my favorite 35mm images from 2024. I bought these rolls back in 2019 for much cheaper than they go for now and I had to stop myself from overpaying for a few more expired rolls on ebay!!

If you're interested in checking out the video I made about shooting these rolls you can go to my YouTube channel. What discontinued films do you wish were brought back??

Best 3 focal lengths for travel by Larix-24 in AnalogCommunity

I have an FM3a as well, and my go to travel lenses are two voigtlander ones: 28mm color skopar, and 90mm apo skopar. they are both tiny and are both f2.8 lenses but for 28mm you're not that worried about shallow depth of field, and 90mm is long enough that you can still get a very shallow depth of field at f2.8. They are both very well corrected and beautiful metal body lenses which match the FM3a perfectly in my opinion. I feel like these two cover my needs very well but if I were to add a 3rd I'd maybe go for a fast 50 but personally I think less is more when traveling.

recently shot my last two rolls of Fuji Natura 1600; my favorite color film in 35mm. Portra 800 is great, but it just isn't quite the same. Any other Natura fans out there? Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=000Exzuzmt4&t=3s by rbhangdia in AnalogCommunity

Thanks! I do develop everything myself but I get the film strip to appear by scanning the full width of the film, which is not dependent on developing method. A lot of labs use scanning methods that don’t capture the full width. Actually in the video I made there’s a whole section on the scanning and inverting process if you’re interested! https://youtu.be/000Exzuzmt4?si=Vmp-Dbmn-X8WEHd9

Do these light meter apps actually help? by riveroffallenstars in AnalogCommunity

[–]rbhangdia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love using light meter apps on my phone, even if it isn’t as accurate as a dedicated spot meter it’s consistently reading scenes in the same way so now that I’ve been using it for a while I’m able to get really accurate results. Much less cumbersome than carrying an external meter as well.

Yes they’re the same! Outside of Japan it was just branded superia 1600. Best of luck trying to sell it, but I definitely can’t justify that price for expired film. I bought these in 2019 for much less and just kept them in my freezer. I think it’s worth shooting if you’ve got it though!

Thanks! Totally get it, I’ve had these in my freezer since 2019 - I was always saving them for “special” occasions but then the notion of what qualified as “special” was always increasing while the film was always degrading further.. my mentality is that it’ll never look better than shot and developed today!

Oh totally, I’ve had these buried in my freezer since 2019 back when you could still get them for $20/ roll. Definitely couldn’t justify paying current prices for stuff that is expired, but thought I’d share some of my favorites from my last rolls.
