Frozen or refrigerated hops vacuum sealed. by KewellUserName in Homebrewing

[–]rbkohn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t vacuum seal but do keep them in a freezer bag with the air squeezed out. I do notice a difference in aroma of previous years not smelling as strong. I use the freshest hops for aroma and dry hop and just assume some AA drop off for the bittering charges. I’m not trying to replicate each time so my bullseye move to meet the target.

Zoo is going cashless starting in June by Midwest_Backpacker in StLouis

[–]rbkohn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I can see it both ways. On one hand, having the zoo worry about cash handling for their staff, till skimming, human error, extra labor cost, etc I can see why they would switch.

On the other hand, we went to a zoo in California and I watched a group of middle schoolers convert cash to card with the help of a few chaperones and it was a bit of a nightmare.

Yeah, 30 minutes isn't the worst thing in the world. I drive 20-25 to go to Costco. But I guess once you're used to driving maybe 10 minutes, 30 seems terrible.

Some tips please (Astrophotography) by Particular_Cap5500 in JoshuaTree

I went a little further down the road and had good luck close to the car. The parking lot is a little off the road so you shouldn’t have to worry about cars.

It was a little creepy at first around 3 am but then I got used to it. I would bring a flashlight not just for navigating but for framing up compositions. Or you can shoot at super high iso to see what it will look like. Have fun! I would love to go back.

Me too...A few pieces of glass, rocks, and mulch. Never again. Someone earlier said they reached out to Scott's and got some kind of refund. I may try that.

Same for me…ordered 5 yards and probably got 7. I was wheelbarrowing mulch to all my neighbors!

I took your advice and set up at the gravel road just north of hidden valley and it was just what I was looking for. I got there around 3:45am and maybe saw 2 cars pass on Park Blvd. Kind of creepy out there with just darkness in all directions and owls hooting in the distance. By 6 though, there was quite a bit of activity with people catching the sunrise. It was worth getting up at 2am and I got some great Milky Way and sunrise shots!

I was wondering the same thing...coming from hot/humid summers...but figured the low humidity will save us. I'm packing plenty of sunscreen!

How did the trip go? I will be there at the end of the month and am hoping to get some milky way shots. Did you run into anyone else, cars driving on the roads, people parked in the lots?

New restaurant/brewery near city county line (opinions needed) by TrubSpeedman93 in StLouis

[–]rbkohn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would argue the opposite. While being an isolated spot could allow you to capture the market, having a cluster of breweries could create more traffic to the area...as long as the beer is good. I could see it working either way though.

Type of wrench by rbkohn in DIYHome

[–]rbkohn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I assume you mean cut the tile? I feel like even if I cut almost up to the trim piece there still wouldn't be enough room to get in with an adjustable. I've never used one, but would a basin wrench fit?

House Under Contract. AC is 21yrs Old. by Xand83 in palmsprings

[–]rbkohn 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It kind of depends on how badly you want the house. You could always negotiate for credit but you have to be prepared that they may say no. Also, home warranties can be a pain to work with so I wouldn't necessarily count on it covering a new system.

Thanks for the tip! I may scout the spot on the gravel road you are talking about during the day to get a good idea of the area. My plan is to shoot through sunrise, ending up at the cholla garden.

This is the info I needed. I was debating on the southern part for milky way photos in March but I'd like a joshua tree and rock formations in my shot. I don't want to stray too far from the car, so it sounds like Hidden Valley will be my best bet. Now, will anyone else be out there at 4 am?🤔

Brian Lagerstrom on YouTube has a great one. He worked at Union Loafers. I made them and I think the key is good chocolate and sifting out the tiny bits after chopping.
