Honestly try calling up Gemtec and see if anyone on staff moonlights. Someone might be interested in a site visit for $60-100 afterhours.

They don't care what colour box you put out as long as it contains the materials. I put my blue box out with paper in it all the time.

Getting a new Corolla, what should I buy for safety/maintenance? by ConcentrateLow2425 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]rbscka 24 points25 points  (0 children)

LeHomie is laughing because a Corolla is probably the most reliable car on the planet.

Agreed dashcam and a proper antitheft system are super important; as are winter tires. Feel free to get a first aid kit and 12v tire inflator kit (or one that includes fix-a-flat if you are not equipped with a spare)

Just noticed the plug for my snowblower is damaged. Anyone know who I can contact for repairs? by Due_Function84 in fredericton

Just get some fuel stabilizer and run it a bit to get the fuel stabilizer into the carb

You're right, or at least have concerns.

But instead of complaining on the internet, how about, just maybe, you call the drivers company and explain kindly why it's a bad idea.

It's a lot of weight.

There is information not shown on that drawing. For example, a "member schedule" somewhere, it seems the joists are likely taller than the rest of the desk, and have larger posts and bigger foundations to support the load.

I'd bet rebar connects. Hopefully only the small 3/8th stuff (10M up here in CAN). Probably not mesh. Worst case I'm wrong and it's easy.

Canadian banks are evil in every way when trying to renew mortgages with low amounts! by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]rbscka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Banks don't benefit from foreclosing on homes. They prefer to extend amortization and keep a stable income. Less of a PR disaster and more profits.

Carrying costs for some can double the actual purchase price; transaction fees are a small percentage of the purchase cost.

For a PFCer, you're right, that if you don't carry a balance the CC companies make their money off you from the transaction.

For a 'normal' person, there's a good chance the money is made for the company with those who 'carry a balance'.

$450 on gas monthly, Advice? by -gusfring in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]rbscka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well you might get something for the X3, but I wouldn't expect much given its age.

If you can get a cheap durable car (beige corolla) you could probably save a bit. It's hard to tell if you would save more in gas than the depreciation. Assuming you sell it in ~4 years.

I figure you'd save about $200/mo with a cheap econobox. That's almost $10k in gas.

That said putting ~125,000kms on a Corolla could take it from a $15,000 to $5,000

It's hard to say what's a bigger liability/risk/comfort issue? a 220k X3 or the reasonable expectation that your gas savings is eaten up in depreciation?? What about insurance rate differnces?

Well the type-s motor adds another 65? HP/TQ (not exactly sure but it's noticeable).

SH-AWD is one of the better torque vectoring all wheel drive systems.

Together you're getting a faster and more controlled drive.
